Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from part 1 here and part 2 here

Do you want to know more about what a winter is? These resources are good places to start here and here.

Scared to try bright lipstick? Previous winter favourite makeup items include Mac Plumful, Revlon Lip Butters in Berry Smoothie and Red Velvet and Revlon gloss in Bordeaux. They are all good places to start without being scarily bright for a newly diagnosed winter. More makeup tips can be found here and by reading through previous threads.

This was the other similar one I thought was cream
top

QueenCardigan · 06/07/2014 21:50

sorrel did you put your bra back on Grin
ginger you need all the tabs open with the things ready to c+p

So, my shopping trip yesterday was a bit disappointing. That horrid time of year with the end of sales stuff and not quite the new stuff.

I did buy this blouse. It's quite long but looks fine tucked in and will look great with black trousers and a bright belt for a night out.

I also bought this cardigan in blue. It seemed like a good match for electric blue in the changing room although it's actually a bit darker than that. Kind of a bright navy. The purple was lovely but was unsure whether it's damson or a summer berry colour. Does anyone else have trouble seeing colours clearly in shops and changing rooms? Especially because I had full make up with bright lips. I find in daylight with no make up on you can make a much better assessment of how things really look.

QueenCardigan · 06/07/2014 21:55

Other stories have some lovely green bits in. I deliberated over this cardi but in the end I decided it was too yellow based. I find emerald a really tricky colour to buy as either it's too warm grass green-y or it's too blue and teal-y.

pinkflaming0 · 06/07/2014 22:09

Ooh Sorrel I ordered those navy Boden sandals and they were lovely but 39's were too small and 40's too big - they don't do 39.5 in that style. Was gutted. I would've paid full price. Sad

SorrelForbes · 07/07/2014 12:03

How annoying. I'm pretty much a 38 in most shoes so fingers crossed that they fit!

SorrelForbes · 08/07/2014 16:47

I somehow managed to order them in a 37! Just as well as they are actually on the large size. I am definitely not a size 4 so these must come up large?

SorrelForbes · 10/07/2014 16:55

Just back from a shopping trip to the sales in Exeter (well, it's better than Plymouth!). I bought:

Betty Jackson necklace from Debenhams.

Hobbs Clemency skirt in bright blue. A good match for shade 11. Not worth £99 but a bargain at £29. I think I'll try it with flats, wedges and then ankle boots in the Autumn/Winter.

Oasis top that GingerLemonTea linked to up thread. Shade wise, just between 15 & 16.

Gap High Rise Skinnies in a dark blue wash - £10.99! I bought a pair of these a while ago in a petite fitting to get a shorter leg but the rise is a bit short so I was pleased to get these at such a good price.

Gap black lounge pants - £9.99

Estee Lauder lipstick in Dominant. It's bright, brighter than HoC Deep Fuchsia and brighter than it looks on screen. I tried Dior Addict in shades 554 575 and 565 and I managed to suck the brightness of out all of them! The SA was a bit confused when I kept asking for brighter colours.

andsmile · 10/07/2014 17:04

Wow Sorrel what a great trip you've had

andsmile · 10/07/2014 17:05

posted too soon.. I love the top and necklace. I see you are thinking about Autumn/Winter already too - Ive ordered two winter coats and two pairs of winter trainers in sales last week.

MissScatterbrain · 10/07/2014 18:11

I am jealous Sorrel - think I will pop into Gap tomorrow as I have had my eye on the high rise skinnies for a while.

SorrelForbes · 10/07/2014 19:20

Honestly, I threw out a huge proportion of my wardrobe after my colour and style days (and wardrobe review!) so I have had to re-stock. My poor credit card though. I am quite hard on clothes, especially tops (messy eater!) so do find that I need to replenish quite often.

I had to rummage through the sale rails for the skinnies but there were plenty there. I don't understand why they're not selling out at normal price? They are the best jeans ever Grin.

I've taken my make-up off and had dinner. I can still see traces of my new lipstick! Hopefully this is a sign that it'll make it through an evening of cocktails on Saturday.

mimiasovitch · 10/07/2014 20:02

I am trying my best to buy something. I ordered the Camper sandals mentioned upthread. Very lovely, but a little narrow for me, and red not pink. I know they're described as red on the website but they looked pink, and as we all know colours on a monitor can be deceiving. I ordered 2 tops from just last season - 1 was out of stock and the other is a tomato red, so is going back. Ordered 2 tops from phase 8 - 1 is out of stock and the other is khaki. It could be mole-ish, but it is definitely not the grey I thought it was. Going back. Ordered 2 cardis and a dress from HoF, the cardis are great. Hurrah for black and navy, but the dress (this one, was really not for me, though the colour is great. Waiting now for a John Lewis delivery, after which I will restrain myself until I can get into a real live shop.

I did pick up a perfect royal blue tshirt for £7.99 in tkmaxx, plus a becksondergaard scarf in fuschia and royal blue for £25! Very pleased with that, though it's been too warm to wear it so far.

On to lipsticks, can anyone recommend something like the red velvet lip butter, but with some staying power? It's my perfect everyday shade, but lasts no time at all.

fooogle · 10/07/2014 20:05

Wow lots of finds sorrel! Would love to hit the 'real' shops ... Just got some back 7/8 jaegar trousers from eBay (black) and some others from me and em sale (not tried in yet). Going bit black crazy after years of being a spring, it's quite a relief to wear it even though it's only low rating at 50%!

Anyone got a great go to red? I seem to have lots of pinks now and think red lippy with blac or white looks classy may be wrong on this!.

Also various items in charities in our colours...I can't stop myself!

fooogle · 10/07/2014 20:06

Sorry, typos. Black is the colour...!

fooogle · 10/07/2014 20:08

mimia, I think mac 'party line' is quite like red velvet? It's quite often my daily colour put on lightly....

fooogle · 10/07/2014 20:09

Ps. Asos also have those scarves in grey on offer. I'm tempted by on with silver stars on one with black spots...
Have a fuschia one with blue birds on from tk maxx which I wear loads (feel the cold!)

SorrelForbes · 10/07/2014 20:26

fooogle My every day red lipstick is the Collection 2000 in Prohibition. My going out one is Lipstick Queen - Black Tie in Velvet Rope. They're both really wearable but the LQ one is slightly heavier in texture and denser in colour.

mimiasovitch I found the Lip butter's too sheer for me and just not bright enough (Jewel Winter) so not sure what's similar. I think No7 do a good lip crayon type thing. Clinque Chubby Sticks are good too.

SorrelForbes · 10/07/2014 20:27

Lip Butters! Random apostrophe Blush

purplegadget · 10/07/2014 20:36

I picked up the royal blue Mango top in the sale that someone linked to a while back - maybe you Sorrel? V. pleased.

Most tempted by the Oasis one, shade 15 is a * colour for me and I don't have anything that colour.

I just need to find some things is 19, 21 & 29 - all **. 29 (pine green) and 21 (burgundy) are probably more likely to be found in the winter I suppose.

QueenCardigan · 10/07/2014 20:39

Good shopping sorrell. The lipstick looks lovely. I used to love the lip butters too but as I've got more confident I'm happier wearing brighter colours during the day.

mmi not sure what's similar to red velvet as I don't tend to wear red but instead opt for pinks.

SorrelForbes · 10/07/2014 21:15

Yes, it was me that linked to the Mango top! I've worn mine quite a lot already.

GingerLemonTea · 10/07/2014 22:23

Sorrel, good shopping! Love the necklace. I got the striped Oasis top today, it's going back, it doesn't sit right. I'm still waiting on the pink Oasis top to arrive. How is it?

May need to rethink my wardrobe. I've been wearing hareems for comfort since having my baby 3 weeks ago. Yesterday someone asked when I was due! Blub

purplegadget · 10/07/2014 23:09

Can anyone advise on the sizing of the Oasis top? I'm usually an 8 especially in less structured garments but this says XS is 6-8 and the model is wearing a S - usually they're in the smallest size! Thx

SorrelForbes · 11/07/2014 08:41

I wear a 12 in Boden, 10 in Crew, 10 in Mango and had an M in the Oasis top. It's fairly slouchy but the material in the body is a bit clingy. I am fairly large of nork (30GG) but a small waist.

mimiasovitch · 12/07/2014 19:33

Finally I have something to show for my hours spent trawling the web. Thank you John Lewis. this arrived today, and I really like it. The colour isn't quite lobelia, and seems like a purple version of the royal blue swatch, but I think (hope) it fits in quite well with the swatches. I had this skirt too, but whilst the colour is fab, it sticks out from my hips too much. I might just buy some crepe and make a pencil skirt in that colour. Be easier than all the returns I've had to do.
