Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from part 1 here and part 2 here

Do you want to know more about what a winter is? These resources are good places to start here and here.

Scared to try bright lipstick? Previous winter favourite makeup items include Mac Plumful, Revlon Lip Butters in Berry Smoothie and Red Velvet and Revlon gloss in Bordeaux. They are all good places to start without being scarily bright for a newly diagnosed winter. More makeup tips can be found here and by reading through previous threads.

Hi Andsmile
The vast majority with one or two exceptions have had our colours done - this is how we know what kind of winter we are, what our best (double starred) colours are etc.

As for finding colours - I think its easier to find our the more deep vivid colours in Winter. Neutrals such as black, navy, grey and white are easily obtained throughout the year. At the moment cobalt is on trend so its easy to find.

Prints - this is usually covered on style days as the kind and size of print depends more on your personality/style. However as discussed upthread, a winters need contrast and with some patterns (e.g florals), the colours can become muted and lose their intensity/clarity/boldness.

andsmile · 01/07/2014 15:11

Thanks missScatterbrain - that all makes sense. So really I need to to gets me my colours done properly!

I have bought some prints but 'quiet' ones that contain low constrast within the pattern but are still high contrast to my skin/hair - well I think I have.

I have just ordered this from Fatface:

Peony Floral Wrap Dress

www.fatface.com/search?q=*&parentCategoryRef=womenssaledressesskirts&parentCategoryRef=womensdressesskirtstunics&sort=manual&order=ascend

But I'm wondering about this print now:

www.fatface.com/search?q=*&parentCategoryRef=womenssaledressesskirts&parentCategoryRef=womensdressesskirtstunics&sort=manual&order=ascend

When i was younger I used to just wander in and buy whatever was inthe shop - I now find I spend ages planning purchases - is it an age thing?

SorrelForbes · 01/07/2014 15:53

Hi and smile

Peony Floral wrap dress - this doesn't really say 'Winter to me'. There's (IMHO) too much cream and teal. It's sort of muted overall which is the opposite of Winter colours really. Having said that, I'm not a floral person so that might be prejudicing my opinion. Grin

I couldn't work out from your second link which dress you were referring to - sorry.

didireallysaythat · 01/07/2014 15:53

queen to be honest I don't need any clothes - got half a dozen pairs of trousers and jeans, couple of jumpers, tops etc so I don't need to buy anything. I've been lurking on here looking at links but not seen anything that grabs me. My ** colours aren't colours I'd choose yet, so I'm not motivated ! I was hoping the right style clothes would help me see the colours....

MissScatterbrain · 01/07/2014 16:39

Agree that the fat face dress isn't right. Fat Face is not a good shop for winters anyway as they tend to use muted/washed out colours and a lot of small fussy prints.

GingerLemonTea · 01/07/2014 18:14

Sorrell, I love the bag! Did you order it from American site for UK delivery? I want it!

Ordered this today.....
cute top, check out the back

SorrelForbes · 01/07/2014 18:18

GingerLemonTea I bought it at the Coach outlet shop at Bicester shopping village. It was £199 with an extra 20% off!

GingerLemonTea · 01/07/2014 18:19

Also this to go with grey skinnies....

pink & grey stripe tee

SorrelForbes · 01/07/2014 19:29

I like that tee (oh god, I must stop buying stuff!)

SorrelForbes · 01/07/2014 19:50

What I do need are some summer shoes, possible wedges, to wear with my summer skirts. Has anyone seen anything nice? Not too high?

andsmile · 01/07/2014 19:51

Oh dear, seems I have a bit to learn. Thanks for the feedback. Think I'll pop off and read the other threads. Try to get a clue or two of what I should be doing.

mamijacacalys · 01/07/2014 20:24

Wedges?

SorrelForbes · 01/07/2014 20:38

Good height but not liking the cork sole (that's going to be an issue I think with wedges) or the bronze, gold and floral bits. Sorry, I'm a fussy old thing Blush

mamijacacalys · 01/07/2014 20:49

I have them and they were a bit of a compromise for me too but had an event so were the best I could find in the time. Quite a pale gold and mainly silver so do go with lots of outfits. Should probably have ordered the silver Boden t-bar wedges earlier in the season but they were out of stock in my size by the time I was frantically looking online lastweek to find out most options in my size had sold out looking. Smile

SorrelForbes · 01/07/2014 21:20

I like those Boden ones (in Navy and Silver) but £69! Seems a lot for summer sandals. I like the Lillie too in Navy/silver but again, £99! Shock

SorrelForbes · 01/07/2014 21:36

Nine West - would prefer not to buy black for the summer but the white ones are £85.

Dune Not sure about these. Nice or yuk?

Dune - betterr?

I had a perfect pair in 1998! Bright blue, block heel, strappy, very flattering.

ItHasANiceRingWhenYouLaugh · 01/07/2014 22:02

pink sandals any good?

SorrelForbes · 01/07/2014 22:06

I like the shape. Is the colour perhaps a bit corally? I think I need to go to bed Grin

fooogle · 02/07/2014 13:37

Just to report, Girl About Town is very very similar to HOC deep fuschia one. Slightly bluer if you see what I mean.

Deciding on two pairs of saltwaters just now. One navy and one pale pink... Thinking pale pink could serve as a kind of nude but for Winters? Am I being foolish? (basically now hard to decide that I don't need both!)

ThePerfectNegroni · 02/07/2014 13:55

I have navy and they are great.

mimiasovitch · 02/07/2014 15:12

I am all over those camper sandals - thank you. And on sale!

NowhereNow · 02/07/2014 16:17

I posted on one of the previous threads shortly after I had my colour day, but tend to mostly lurk. I recently got some vest tops from Dorothy Perkins & one is a very good match to number 10 (Royal Blue) in my wallet:

Royale Blue scoop

I also got navy, black & white ones and then a green which doesn't match any of the swatches, but I think it tones well - what do you think?

Jade rib and lace vest

Hope the links work ok!

GingerLemonTea · 02/07/2014 16:40

Thinking about this.....

pink top

It looks more of a berry colour, which I'm after, but says its pink.

SorrelForbes · 02/07/2014 16:57

I like that Oasis top!

mimiasovitch · 02/07/2014 19:28

Me too. I'm very much enjoying filling out my wardrobe at the moment. I just bought this. Is getting the oasis one overkill, or practical? There may be a fuschia shortage in our future, after all Wink.
