Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from part 1 here and part 2 here

Do you want to know more about what a winter is? These resources are good places to start here and here.

Scared to try bright lipstick? Previous winter favourite makeup items include Mac Plumful, Revlon Lip Butters in Berry Smoothie and Red Velvet and Revlon gloss in Bordeaux. They are all good places to start without being scarily bright for a newly diagnosed winter. More makeup tips can be found here and by reading through previous threads.

Was 'made over' at the Bobbi Brown counter yesterday whilst killing time. Eye make up was good colours as I told her I wanted cool shades - mole/stone/grey with granite gel eyeliner. Eyeliner was thicker than I'd usually wear (DH said later that I looked a bit Claudia Winkleman) but I bought it anyway. I'll use a lighter touch I think - just need to experiment. It stayed in place all day.

She did use the dreaded bronzer but the lipstick was a really good match for my natural lip colour (needed a natural lip with all that eyeliner!). Obviously not very bright but I have lots of bright lippy now so I did buy that too as it is cool and clear and will be good for a natural look.

Fooogle · 30/06/2014 13:30

Hey Winters
Loads of great shopping going on! I've not bought much new, though keep acquiring stuff from my charity shop rummaging. I keep meaning to ebay lots of my old 'Spring' clothes but I don't get round to it so the wardrobe is bulging!

Ordered a lippy today, Mac 'Girl About Town', anyone use it? Is it totally terrifying pink? I'm a Jewel Winter so need some brights though am finding myself sneaking into the sultry end I think. How do other Jewel's cope with the brights everyday? Scarlet, electric blue, fuschia are all ** colours. I can cope with the blue but the others are a bit daunting!

PinkFlam, Envy at your Bobbi Brown trip. Totally don't need more stuff but terrible at wanting it and I do love having my makeup done.

SorrelForbes · 30/06/2014 15:22

Foogle I'm a Jewel Winter too. My ** colours are Charcoal, Indigo, Royal Purple, Royal Blue, Fuchsia, Damson, Burgundy, Carmine and Dark Emerald. Yesterday I wore dark blue jeans with a Royal Blue top, Damson cardigan and my new bag. I was worried that I looked like a parrot but my sister said I looked great!

I used the bag today as well and got some great compliments and comments. It's very bright indeed. Today I wore it with dark jeans and a navy/white Breton and HoC 62 Deep Fuchsia lipstick.

Sounds great Sorrel. Bag looks lovely. I have gone 'off piste' and have a tan bag...I kind of like it with navy anyway but sometimes I frown and know another colour would be better. Will your pink bag go with everything? I always worry about getting a non-neutral for everyday stuff?
Very envious by the way!

SorrelForbes · 30/06/2014 16:09

I have a lot of blue, white and navy in my wardrobe so I'm hoping the bag will go with most items but tbh, I'm going to have to be brave and just use it! Fuchsia is my new neutral Grin. I can't believe I bought it really as it was over budget.

I've been very brave and given away my favourite tan bag. It just didn't seem to 'fit' anymore with any of my outfits (get me!).

SorrelForbes · 30/06/2014 16:11

Foogle That Mac lipstick looks a little paler/pinker than the HoC 62.

MrPop · 30/06/2014 16:31

Oh I love that bag

MissScatterbrain · 30/06/2014 17:11

Gorgeous bag - I often find that using one jewel colour really does bring an outfit to life. The good thing about HOC's palettes is that all of the colours should go well with another colour in the palette.

Like fuchsia, red is another great "neutral" - I use a bit of it a lot (e.g lipstick, nail polish, shoes etc). Damson is another good one.

mimiasovitch · 30/06/2014 18:54

Ahh Fooogle - I'm a sultry but keep leaning towards the jewel shades. Fuschia is at least a 2 star colour for me, but I keep picking up the brighter blues. I guess it's because the sun is/has been out, and I've seen quite a bit of it around. Unlike damson and indigo, darn them.

mimiasovitch · 30/06/2014 18:56

Loving the bag by the way. I need sandals in that colour. Every day not dressy ones. Any ideas? (By need I mean I really shouldn't, but I have to have a change from the many pairs of red shoes I own.)

didireallysaythat · 30/06/2014 19:22

Did anyone find their colours didn't click until they found their style ? I had my colours done in January but to be honest it wasn't a life changing event and I still can't see why my ** colours are better than the no star colours (I can see I'm probably a winter). I haven't bought any clothes (unless socks and running trousers count) since then as I booked the style day pacake which I'm hoping to take in July or August.

Do you think with the right style of clothes I'll start to make sense of the colours ?

QueenCadbury · 30/06/2014 20:42

sorrell absolutely divine bag. I love it. And your outfit sounds amazing. I personally wouldn't be brave enough to wear so many colours together but I can imagine it worked.

pink which lipstick did you buy? After months of wraring little eye make up and bright pink lips I'm fancying a change and trying the heavy eye make up neutral lip thing too.

didI I clicked with my colours straight away but after my style day I went off the reds. I'm an ingenue natural so sort of girly and laid back. Suddenly the reds seemed too dramatic for me and it made sense why red lipstick doesn't work and I don't feel comfortable in it. Also wearing lots of bright colours together doesn't really feel like me either as again it's too dramatic for me. I think summers muted shades would suit my style better but I can see that the brighter shades work better for my colouring. What are your best colours?

pinkflaming0 · 30/06/2014 21:56

It's sandwash pink QueenC - have always struggled with neutral lipsticks being too peach/brown/beige even before I had my colours done and understood that I need pink/purple/bluey colours.

It's similar to Mac plumful but lighter.

I know that us winters should really go for stronger lip colours but I'm a softer type of winter and it's nice to have a more neutral alternative sometimes.

Wore the eyeliner today (not Claudia style!) and am impressed with the staying power.

didireallysaythat · 30/06/2014 22:18

Queen my best colours are royal blue, lobelia, fushia, carmine and ice hyacinth. I don't like any of them (yet) and I don't have any of them in my wardrobe to be able to wear and see if they grow on me. So I've staying safe in navy blue (although probably summer's), grey and black. I realise it's a bit washed our but I don't have jewellery, red scarves or something similar to make a pop.

Maybe I'll put the style day back a couple more months.... I think the consultant wants to finish the package though

neverknow · 30/06/2014 23:33

mimi so how do you feel about saltwater sandals? They do a bright pink patent one?... Personally comfy for me in red...

MrPop · 01/07/2014 07:52

I was going to suggest saltwater sandals too.

Going to check out that lipstick Pink - I have not taken to bright lipstick that well though I do wear them sometimes.

mimiasovitch · 01/07/2014 08:32

I do like the saltwaters, but not on me. My slender dds have them, but I have big calves, plus a dodgy Achilles, and need a bit of a heel. I bought these, but they were far too narrow, and not as comfy as Lotta's own brand. I did buy pink patent Birkenstocks, which are the only flats I can tolerate.

QueenCadbury · 01/07/2014 09:36

didi does your consultant know how you feel? I would say get used to your colours first as the style day is a whole other load of information to take on board. But do you want to buy your colours? I'm sensing some reluctance if you haven't bought anything since January.

SorrelForbes · 01/07/2014 10:28

I'm having a browse on Brand Alley and have seen this Crew top (Louisa). There's only 1 left in a size 10. I'm a 12 in most tops (30GG!) and have the 10 in this. It's lovely. Great price too.

SorrelForbes · 01/07/2014 10:33

I bought these trousers last week in the Banana Republic sale. They are very flattering on my hourglass wide of hip and thigh shape. It looks like they've only got a size 6 left thought.

I'm planning on wearing them for a night out, perhaps with a white or black silky t-shirt and (as suggested by Hopefully via email!) some bling to ensure I get the 'Romantic' bit into the 'Classic'.

SorrelForbes · 01/07/2014 10:49

I quite like this and this but I struggle with costume jewellery as I'm allergic to nickel.

fooogle · 01/07/2014 12:00

Like the chunky chain Sorrel, the other is nice but I look funny in smaller necklaces (or think I do...too dainty for me or something on my galumphing frame!)

What do you folks wear for lipstick when wearing ice colours. Have an ice pink linen shirt today for work and am wearing Mac 'Party Line' but not sure if I look a bit odd. Ordered that other Mac one 'Girl about town'. Am terrible lipstick addict despite not actually being very consistent at wearing it!

SorrelForbes · 01/07/2014 12:27

I think I'll order the chunky one. The other one looks a bit 'cheap'.

I only own one 'ice' item and that's an ice green cardigan. I think I wore Pudgy Peony with it last time. That's the least bright of all my lipsticks (I have a lot too!).

andsmile · 01/07/2014 14:07

Hello lovely thread ive just found...

Is it ok to ask some questions?

Did you all get your colours done to find out or just do them online like I did?

I know this may seem daft too, but can you always find something in your colour that is on trend.

How do you chose from all these prints around..someone told me I was too 'big' (sales assistant in a nice way) to wear patterns/prints.

I think I'm a Winter - Clear btw. Smile

didireallysaythat · 01/07/2014 14:34

queen to be honest I don't need any clothes - got half a dozen pairs of trousers and jeans, couple of jumpers, tops etc so I don't need to buy anything. I've been lurking on here looking at links but not seen anything that grabs me. My ** colours aren't colours I'd choose yet, so I'm not motivated ! I was hoping the right style clothes would help me see the colours....
