Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from part 1 here and part 2 here

Do you want to know more about what a winter is? These resources are good places to start here and here.

Scared to try bright lipstick? Previous winter favourite makeup items include Mac Plumful, Revlon Lip Butters in Berry Smoothie and Red Velvet and Revlon gloss in Bordeaux. They are all good places to start without being scarily bright for a newly diagnosed winter. More makeup tips can be found here and by reading through previous threads.

I like wearing navy and indigo - the navy has got to be dark - bright navy is less good on me and french navy is definitely a no no. Not bought any navy stuff for ages though - I tend to buy from Gap or Boden as their navy blues are usually quite dark.

ShinySilver · 23/06/2014 21:07

Thanks everyone!

I wasn't very clear - I mean I'm struggling to find navy and indigo. I am also ** for electric and royal blue but those seem much easier to find.

Navy/indigo in shops always seem really muted rather than deep and intense (still not sure if I'm explaining myself very well). I'm off to Google the different types of navy mentioned by Miss Scatterbrain to see if that helps me work out which I need.

MissScatterbrain · 23/06/2014 21:20

Just had a quick look at gap/boden to check and their navy knitwear are still dark and intense.

QueenCadbury · 23/06/2014 21:22

I don't think I've ever found anything indigo. Like someone else said the navy needs to be really dark. It will also look different in different materials. The swatches are quite shiny so any matte material often looks dull in comparison iyswim.

I can really see the difference when I wear the right navy as it just kind of makes my eyes stand out. Just keep trying lots of navy stuff on until you find the right shade.

MissScatterbrain · 23/06/2014 21:31

I have a couple of things in indigo - its hard to find but I am always on the look out as I love it. Its often described as navy though.

I have an indigo fine knit jumper from the gap (a couple of years old though). The boden breton top I have (SS14) is more indigo than navy.

Hello winters, its gone quiet on here. Rainy day here, had to readjust brain to warmer clothes after all this sunny weather we've had. Going to be wearing my seasalt raincoat today along with ice pink kettlewell top and jeans.

Have you made any sales purchases? I was initially a little underwhelmed but seem to have bought quite a few bits now.

breton - the 'white' is a bit creamy but I think it has enough contrast to work okay.

I'd like a red one but not sure colours would suit.

Waiting on a few things from JL but not sure I will keep everything

dress

animal print top

been stalking this scarf for ages (the grey and purple one)

not sure the colours will be right

I'm pretty keen on these boots

I like this grey dress but want it to reduce a bit more.

That brand (never bought anything from there) has a few nice dresses - dark pink and cobalt but most of the colours are not good for us.

Apologies for all the links. I've not really bought with a view to plugging 'colour gaps' in my wardrobe. Still want something emerald green, maybe a skirt or dress but I think the stuff I've seen is too turquoise - thoughts?

skirt

dress

MissScatterbrain · 27/06/2014 08:31

Wow you have been busy - the scarf and boots look great. Love the wishbone dresses too.

The green stuff you have linked are too minty. We can wear turquoise but it needs to be an intense, clear and bold shade.

SorrelForbes · 27/06/2014 11:05

I've just bought these from Banana Republic:

Shorts in navy.

Trousers in black

The shorts will be great for holiday (semi-smart, useful for evenings) but I'm still not convinced about the trousers. I'm planning to wear them with high heels and a top (possibly the Boden Ravello in Silver) for evenings. Having chubby thighs, these trousers don't skim my thighs like in the picture!

SorrelForbes · 27/06/2014 11:10

MrPop

I really like all thos Wishbone dresses but I think they'd be too slouchy for me Sad

Hobbs do a nice red and white WHITE-XL&refpage=tops Breton. It's out of stock on-line but I saw it last week in HoF.

SorrelForbes · 27/06/2014 11:12

Sorry. The link won't work but it's on Page two of Hobbs tops using the White filter!

pinkflaming0 · 27/06/2014 18:12

Found these M&S navy sandals in store today. Delighted as they are out of stock online.

Also picked up this grey metallic quilted mini skirt in the sale. Mid-life crisis maybe?? Wouldn't have paid full price.

pinkflaming0 · 27/06/2014 18:29

Zips on skirt look gold in the pic but are actually dark grey.

QueenCadbury · 27/06/2014 20:56

Wow good sale shopping ladies. I haven't bought anything. There's just not really any gaps in my wardrobe at the moment to justify it. I'm saving myself for the AW stuff. I do have my eye on a handbag or 2 though.

mrpop those last two links don't seem the right colour to me.

MrPop · 28/06/2014 09:35

Oops I may have ordered the whistles dress - oh well, free delivery and returns so not too much of a problem. Green seems a hard one to get right.

Rest of my sales haul has arrived - will report back.

Pink I like that mini

Thanks for the info on the hobbs breton Sorrel I found it!

ThePerfectNegroni · 28/06/2014 12:22

I've just been in the Hobbs sale and bought
This dress
this necklace
And a thin silver leather belt.
Just seen this scarf on the website but they didn't have them in store. It also comes in a great blue colour.

standingonlego · 28/06/2014 16:20

I bought the M&S silver mini this morning whilst in town - agree with pink would not have paid full price but a cute bargain in the sale :)

SorrelForbes · 28/06/2014 18:58

I like that silver mini. What's the sizing like?

I went to Bicester today and bought:

Coach bag (reduced from £310 to £159)

A white a-line white skirt with black patches on the hips and a black waistband from Max Mara (reduced from £309 to £52)

Ralph Lauren shorts in Navy reduced from £65 to £34.99@

I have to go and find some extra work now to pay all that off the card!

MrPop · 28/06/2014 19:16

Lots of good shopping going on! Sorrel your coach link goes to a general page - I am keen to know which bag you bought!

Sales wise, most of my JL order went back apart from star scarf and whistles top

I also popped into town today and bought clarks brogues and studded shoes which are nude so not ideal colour but I think I will get a lot of wear out of them, they seem really good quality. Need to do a try on with both of them to see if they work with the rest of my clothes.

Most of my shopping seems to be more autumn or wintery stuff so hoping I can have a bit of a shopping haitus for a while!

MrPop · 28/06/2014 19:19

Sorry for multiple posts but I forgot to link

this blouse

Can't buy any more but it is beautiful, sigh

SorrelForbes · 28/06/2014 20:21

Oops. It's the Legacy duffle in Pink Scarlet.

standingonlego · 28/06/2014 22:58

M&S mini was quite true to size sorrell - the 10 was fine for me. M&S sometimes come up big but no way was i getting in the 8 this time! I am 5'2" and it was still definately a mini

pinkflaming0 · 29/06/2014 19:08

Agree with standing - unusually for M&S sizing was true to small. I'm usually a 6 or 8 in M&S but the 10 was perfect. I think it's because there's absolutely no stretch in it and it's straight rather than A-line.

I'm 5'10" so definitely a mini on me! Saving it for when opaque tights weather returns.

standingonlego · 29/06/2014 21:36

Gosh pink - you might need some Lily Allen style matching knicks Grin. I was thinking opaques too :)

SorrelForbes · 29/06/2014 21:43

I'll try a 12 then I think.

I bought this today in the navy and white stripe from H&M. Just a cheapie for holiday but surprisingly flattering even though it doesn't have sleeves (pet hate)

pinkflaming0 · 29/06/2014 22:11

Grin at Lily Allen knicks!

I may have stocked up on t-shirts at H&M yesterday - you can never have too many navy or black well fitting t's.

Also picked up a burgundy short sleeved shirt. I need to take in and lower the waist a bit but it is the right colour - must make sure I get the sewing machine out before it goes out of season!
