Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from part 1 here and part 2 here

Do you want to know more about what a winter is? These resources are good places to start here and here.

Scared to try bright lipstick? Previous winter favourite makeup items include Mac Plumful, Revlon Lip Butters in Berry Smoothie and Red Velvet and Revlon gloss in Bordeaux. They are all good places to start without being scarily bright for a newly diagnosed winter. More makeup tips can be found here and by reading through previous threads.

I love that one ginger but is it a gold buckle?

sorrell I hate you Grin. You've made me order the mango dress in azul too!!! Like you I would normally stick to navy but dh said he preferred the bright blue. I've ordered 3 different sizes as although I'm a 6 in their tops I'm not convinced I'd be a 6 in a dress.

QueenCadbury · 11/06/2014 21:26

Meant to add that if anyone is after a blue mascara I bought this kate moss one.

SorrelForbes · 11/06/2014 21:42

QueenCadbury Oops! Blush I've got the crepe top in a 12/L and a 10/M (bonkers sizing) so did expect to need a 12 in the dress. However the 10 just fitted a bit more closely and although it doesn't look all 'slouchy' like the one on the model, it still looks good. I reckon the 6 or 8 will be fine for you.

I need a silver belt now to go with it Grin

Fooogle · 11/06/2014 23:09

www.oliverbonas.com/m/accessories/bags/barrel_bag_red.htm gingerlemon, any good? Depends how annoying you find a buckle perhaps?

GingerLemonTea · 12/06/2014 09:06

Queen I think it's silver. I have ordered the original one I posted.
Got the Matalan long vests for layering when there was 20% off. £3.20 each - bargain. Got grey & navy. Definitely need to size down though.

QueenCadbury · 12/06/2014 20:18

sorrell my mango dress arrived. I'm keeping the 8. It's quite slouchy on top but the 6 is too short. I'm tempted to get the navy too...

SorrelForbes · 12/06/2014 21:53

QueenCadbury Yes, even with my bust the 10 was slouchy on top (not as much as in the pic though!). For £20 I think it's a really good little summer dress. It's just the right length for me too (I'm a smidgeon under 5'4").

GingerLemonTea · 13/06/2014 16:29

Returned this today.....
white bag

Bought it 2 weeks ago, but didnt love it & hadn't used it so still have £25 on a gift crd to spend at Oasis.

SorrelForbes · 13/06/2014 17:50

Very tempted by this in the Baukjen Outlet sale.

MrPop · 13/06/2014 21:25

I like the look of Baukjen stuff - never bought from there though. Just went to have a browse and they have a sample sale on - v limited sizes but some v cheap stuff.

Love this dress

and this one

Also nice trousers

I also really like the look of their black jumpsuit.

pinkflaming0 · 15/06/2014 22:01

Shopping day in Birmingham on Friday yielded the following:

blue Mango top

I went in looking for the one I think it was Sorrel posted about but they didn't have it in store - this one is the same colour and suited me. Still like the other one but do not need two (repeats to self).

H&M royal blue t-shirt lovely colour and shape

Cos grey melange dress in the sale looks much better on me than on the model if I say so myself! Mine is closer fitting and I plan to wear it with black opaque or semi-opaque tights and shoes/long boots come the autumn - not ugly ankle boots and bare legs.

Also, ordered this black maxi skirt online to go with the black Boden top I mentioned up thread. I already have the navy and love it.

MrPop · 16/06/2014 08:22

Lovely shopping pink. Often find that the Cos styling does the clothes no favours!

Those of you who have done the style day - how does it account for changing tastes? I just gave a load of clothes to the charity shop, which I used to love and wear a lot but just no longer do.

QueenCadbury · 16/06/2014 09:55

Great shopping pink. I had a bit of time in Birmingham on Saturday and nipped into cos as I don't have one where I am but I just couldn't bear to try anything on. Everything just looks so weird on the hangers even though they have some lovely colours and styles.

mrpop why do you no longer love them? I'm a bit like that in that I get bored of stuff quickly and I find something can look great one year but not so great the next. But my style doesn't change iyswim. I buy the same sort of stuff eg jeans, blouses every year but I think maybe my body shape changes a little. Not drastically but enough that things may fit differently.

Fooogle · 16/06/2014 11:27

Hi Winters

Am tempted by the dress Pink, looks comfy and cool at the same time. Can I ask what size you had? I'm a 12 usually though with rather 14-ish hips so not sure which to go for...
scarf looks nice too...

I ordered a maxi skirt from kettlewell in their sale bit in Silver grey. Quite liked it on Saturday with black T and a silver and black belt... Find lots of their stuff not that great though in terms of styling, how does anyone else find them?

MrPop did you order Baukjen stuff? I have a tshirt of theirs which I like though it may be verging on summer colouring. t Like it with skinny jeans so far...

Not sure about style days. I haven't had one but am still tempted...! Guess changing tastes may also be similar to changing styles, you just kind of have a basic look that somehow follows you through but some things stop being fashionable or what you like anymore?

mimiasovitch · 16/06/2014 19:30

Hello. I am just back from my consultation, diagnosed a sultry winter. Was sure I'd be a spring (I do love a bit of coral), and couldn't see whilst self-diagnosing how the winter colours could possibly suit me. Once the lipstick was on (and I'd adjusted to the brightness) I could really see it though. I can also see that lots of my wardrobe is along those lines. Just got to work out how to wear 3 colours, that aren't just red, navy and white!

pinkflaming0 · 16/06/2014 20:28

Fooogle I am a size 8 and got the XS. It's more fitted on me than on the model but definitely not tight. I'd say sizing is true to generous.

Re. Kettlewell - I've never bought anything but looking at the styles very little appeals (looks a bit 80's). Also, I'm tall so not sure whether it would be a good fit. I might try a vest top or the slash neck 3/4 sleeve top one day in a colour that's hard to find elsewhere.

Queen know what you mean about looking weird on the hanger - never been in before but a friend recommended. An assistant saw me looking a bit bemused so took me round and picked out a few things for me to try. One dress did look and feel like a hospital gown though! Being tall and skinny slim I did feel some of the stuff swamped me a bit.

mimi I'm a burnished winter - I keep meaning to find out of that's the same/similar to a sultry winter. How did your consultant describe sultry winter?

mimiasovitch · 16/06/2014 21:19

I think they're different - a sultry has quite deep shades, the richer tones of the winter colours. I think burnished are the softer colours.

MrPop · 17/06/2014 08:58

Hello mimi and welcome. Did your consultant say you should wear 3 colours at once? Mine didn't mention that though I've seen it mentioned on other HoC threads.

Fooogle I didn't get any baukjen stuff as the things I liked were out of stock in my size. I usually find it a bit spendy for me so the outlet prices were very exciting. Like the look of their stuff though.

Pink I agree about kettlewell being quite dated (and a bit pricey for what it is). I have one top from there, in ice pink (though it is not very icey!)

QueenC I think it is just that I get bored of a 'look' and also get influenced by styles around me so I want to copy those. I have booked a style day for August - should be interesting!

QueenCadbury · 17/06/2014 09:47

Welcome mimi. The booklet says to wear 3 colours together and watch the magic happen Hmm. I have to say that I don't wear 3 colours of clothes but I do find adding in a third colour as an accessory does look good. Eg if I'm wearing jeans and a top and cardi I may add a different colour belt/bracelet/bag or even just nail varnish.

mrpop the style day will still be good though even if you like different looks as it will give you some idea of the best shapes and scales of patterns to wear.

mimiasovitch · 17/06/2014 17:35

I was told to wear 3 colours, but I'm still working out what to wear out of my current wardrobe to worry about that yet. I've got lots of red, white, navy and black, but I'm keen to try something different. I've always veered away from fuschia and electric blue, but am looking for something cheap to start with. T shirts to go with navy/black work skirts I suppose. I make a fair bit of my own stuff, and was ready to buy lots of jersey for tops, but its really hard to tell for sure online if the colours are right. At least if ready-made is wrong you can return it. That said, does this look right? I can't go actual shopping for ages.

IsItFridayYetPlease · 17/06/2014 21:32

I remember reading somewhere (maybe on here) that jewellery, nail polish, bright lipstick and even skin (think it mentions it as 75%** colour Vs 25% skin in a sundress in my booklet?) counts as part of the three colours?
Maybe an expert can confirm that?

ShinySilver · 22/06/2014 17:39

Hey ladies, I'm struggling with the dark blues and am after any help I can get.

I'm a Sultry Winter, with all of the dark blues ** colours for me. But however hard I look I just cannot find any blues which are dark yet also bright. All the navy clothes in the shops look very dull compared to the colours in my wallet. I have never really worn navy as I thought I looked rubbish in it, but could clearly see that I looked great in the HOC dark blues so would love to buy some.

Have any of you recently bought any dark blue tops/cardigans/jumpers you can recommend?

MrPop · 23/06/2014 11:45

Hi Shiny and welcome. From recollection I think Sorrel and QueenC bought a mango dress that did come in navy or dark blue.

Me + Em (which I seem to be constantly recommending on here, I'm not on commission honest!) have some navy and dark blue (which they call cobalt) stuff:

navy dress

cardigan

jumper

top

top

Maybe the cobalt ones might be better for you if you want it to be bright but dark?

QueenCadbury · 23/06/2014 13:00

Hi shiny yes, the blue mango dress linked up thread comes in navy although I'm being good and sending it back as realised that I don't really need it.

I'm a bit confused about which dark blues you mean. Isn't there only navy and indigo? Or do you mean the royal/electric blues?

mimiasovitch · 23/06/2014 15:02

Monsoon has a few tops in electric blue - here, here and here
