Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from part 1 here and part 2 here

Do you want to know more about what a winter is? These resources are good places to start here and here.

Scared to try bright lipstick? Previous winter favourite makeup items include Mac Plumful, Revlon Lip Butters in Berry Smoothie and Red Velvet and Revlon gloss in Bordeaux. They are all good places to start without being scarily bright for a newly diagnosed winter. More makeup tips can be found here and by reading through previous threads.

Bought a navy bag and navy sandals on my hols in Menorca but most of the stuff on offer was touristy (and expensive) and/or a bit blingy for me.

Have a shopping day in Birmingham next Friday the main objective of which is to spend time with a good friend but I will have a list of things I'm still looking for to fill the gaps in my wardrobe. And my wallet of course.

For my hols I bought a couple of 'beach shirts' from Next. In addition to the white I got the chambray on the basis that white wasn't actually very practical. I was surprised at how good the chambray looked on me. I suppose it is a summer colour - cool and fairly clear but not vibrant, and I am a burnished winter so the less vibrant colours of the winter palette suit me best.

A reminder to me that bending the rules can work.

pinkflaming0 · 07/06/2014 21:39

Also, just ordered this in black to show off my tan. I already have the green which isn't quite the right shade for light emerald but the style suits me so well and I already had enough pink tops (wasn't keen on black at the time but have fallen back in love with it now).

MissScatterbrain · 08/06/2014 08:26

I have that vest top (also bought in the 20% sale). I also ordered the grey and navy checked ones. The grey was too warm - the white is more cream than white. The navy is better but it didn't go with enough clothes in my wardrobe so it went back as well.

bettybigballs · 08/06/2014 10:30

I woke up early this morning so have gone hell for leather on the & other stories website, mainly black things whoops!

MrPop · 09/06/2014 12:22

IsItFriday looks like some good shopping - in screen the colours look right I think.

I've not bought much recently. Just received this scarf unseasonally - not sure about the colour now that it has arrived though. Need to get my wallet out.

MrPop · 09/06/2014 12:26

Oh pink I meant to say that chambray and light denim is a colour I can't give up. It's so useful and I think dark denim looks too wintery for summer.

Actually a question for you all - what colour or style rules have you broken and why?

I would love to buy this but not sure I should bend the rules that much. Tempted though!

MissScatterbrain · 09/06/2014 15:39

That jacket looks the same colour as chambray so you might be able to get away with it.

I used to wear ice blue but I don't seem to suit it anymore. One rule I often break in summer is to wear khaki on my bottom half - it seems to look fine esp when wearing black with it.

ItHasANiceRingWhenYouLaugh · 09/06/2014 18:43

I've been thinking beige, khaki and olive on the bottom will look nice with black, blue, navy, pink, white, etc. Also, saw some excellent mustardy lime trousers that would be fine below waist. Grin

Fooogle · 09/06/2014 19:31

Hello folks
I sneaked in a light blue denim shirt and a denim jacket. Though I night dye it but prob won't! These were charity acquisitions while back.
Update on nice but yellow/autumn coloured coat bought as present... Blooming shop now closed! He was a bit unforthcoming when I asked about exchanging and then said couldn't. hey ho, keep til autumn I guess and see!
Ordered some bits from h and m today, worryingly can't recall what! And also some liberty print fabric to try make a v basic top... Was more expensive than I though so hope I manage it!
mrspop have you worn your lotta clogs yet? Not sure about mine, think I have wide ankles!

ItHasANiceRingWhenYouLaugh · 09/06/2014 20:24

Ooh, meant to say, I am loving these sandals.

MissScatterbrain · 09/06/2014 22:11

There's a sale on at Lands End - lots of good winter colours, have ordered a cardigan in what looks like lobelia.

ItHasANiceRingWhenYouLaugh · 10/06/2014 08:21

Btw, I am loving the HOC fuschia lip gloss that I bought on impulse and didn't wear for ages. Blotted down it is lovely and not at all scary. Grin

GingerLemonTea · 10/06/2014 18:51

Thoughts on this bag in the pink........

pink bag

QueenCadbury · 10/06/2014 20:58

I have that bag ginger! I love it and it's surprisingly roomy for purse/phone/keys.

You're all such rebels breaking the rules Grin. I'm not sure that I've broken any as I quite like having rules to stick too .

I bought this belt today instore. It was only £24 instead of the price advertised.

SorrelForbes · 10/06/2014 21:24

Lovely belt QueenCadbury.

Last week I bought a black belt from the Hobbs concession in my local HoF. It was reduced from £49 to £26 so a bit of a bargain. However, when I got it home, I realised that it only has 3 holes, the loosest of which is still about 5" too small. Now, this belt is a S, but I only have a 28" waist FFS. I bet that's why it was in the sale and I also bet that the Hobbs assistants were having a right chuckle after I walked away with my 'find'. Grrrrrr.

Rant over.

MrPop · 11/06/2014 08:17

Fooogle I have worn them a few times and they were fine. I have an old pair I have had about 4 years and they do stretch a lot. I have wide ankles!

Another thing I would break 'the rules' for is leopard print on bags and shoes. Love a bit of leopard print and think it is a neutral!

Nice sandals ItHas

I thought these looked good for the price. And lots of colours.

I'm not keen on the shape of the bag Ginger though it is good that it is roomy as QueenC says, as it doesn't look it! Good price for leather.

QueenC I couldn't see your belt link.

MrPop · 11/06/2014 08:37

Another pink leather bag - no idea on quality.

ItHasANiceRingWhenYouLaugh · 11/06/2014 09:08

Sorrel a shoe repair shop might be able to punch a hole where you need one. Or if you have an awl you could do it yourself.

SorrelForbes · 11/06/2014 09:34

DH has a plethora of tools but is at sea at the moment and I daren't venture into the terrifying, packed to the brim garage to find something suitable. I have bought an interim one from Primark for £3!

SorrelForbes · 11/06/2014 11:50

Prompted by another thread, I've just visted the Hoola website and they've got new bikinis some of which look like they could be good for us winters:

Navy and White collection

Shimmer Pink

Shimmer Blue

Sadly, they only go to a 30G and I need a GG. I already own the Lou Lou in a 30G (wrong colours but bought before I was 'done') and the quality is great but it is just a smidgeon too small. Boo.

Fooogle · 11/06/2014 12:10

Mr Pop I quite like that pink bag. Sucker for a bif of pony skin.
I'm with you on animal print accessories and also I am still weakened by a bit of tan...currently have a tan cross body bag bit in the style of a satchel...I just find it less harsh than black or navy leather but maybe I've not found the right bag for the colour...
Like your silver belt QueenC...am rummaging the charity rails for such things...Have a nice silver one I bought in Tk maxx but its more of a jeans belt. Cheers me up though to see it.
Ordered white cardi cardi from H and M and some cotton PJ shorts on white and navy in the sale (£5!) and a pink top which may be a bit too boho for me. top.

Fooogle · 11/06/2014 12:12

Sorry for typos! Meant to be working...

SorrelForbes · 11/06/2014 13:11

I like that bag too MrPop but not so keen on the gold coloured hardware.

My Mango dress arrived today in Azul and Navy.

The navy looked nice but a bit meh. What a difference though with the Azul! It (if I say so myself) looks really good and has confirmed for me that bright is the way to go Grin. Not that I was doubting the diagnosis but sometimes I can feel myself veering back towards navy and black as they feel safer!

I sized down so it isn't as baggy as in the pic on the website. It's not as slouchy on my large bust and not as loose on the hips which is good for me as I'm better with (soft) structure.

MissScatterbrain · 11/06/2014 13:49

Glad the dress worked out.

My cardigan (in purple sapphire) arrived. Pleased with it as its a great summery colour.

GingerLemonTea · 11/06/2014 13:59

Nice bag MrPop but I'm a stickler for the rules now & can't do gold hardware. Other option was this bag.....
