Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from part 1 here and part 2 here

Do you want to know more about what a winter is? These resources are good places to start here and here.

Scared to try bright lipstick? Previous winter favourite makeup items include Mac Plumful, Revlon Lip Butters in Berry Smoothie and Red Velvet and Revlon gloss in Bordeaux. They are all good places to start without being scarily bright for a newly diagnosed winter. More makeup tips can be found here and by reading through previous threads.

Thanks Pink Flamingo - we do sound similar! I'm not very good with those very very pale colours either...apart from ice green! Do you know the theory behind the 'burnished' bit?

Fooogle · 30/04/2014 11:58

Thank you for the MAC Craving tip off whoever mentioned it. It is my current daily colour Smile
I am mulling over some summer shoes. Have to wear closed toe to work and was wondering about hasbeen type cloggy things?! I don't do well in ballerina styles, need a bit of a wedge to make my calves and ankles look less chunky!
Know they may not be everyone's style but...what colour would you go for? navy, fuchsia, red, silver? bearing in mind for work... I'm size 7 as well so perhaps that has a influence?!
similar Lotta ones

Fooogle · 30/04/2014 11:59

Sorry, don't know much about burnished or sultry. Would like to hear though...I'm a bright type one (jewel I think)

LadyWithLapdog · 30/04/2014 12:46

Foogle, I'd go for navy or silver. Is it a hospital?

LadyWithLapdog · 30/04/2014 12:48

I like the look of the texture of that MAC Craving. The colour looks a bit light - for me, I wonder how it'd look like IRL. I've been wearing fuschia pink/violet and feel really comfortable in that. I'd worn bright red for years but can't quite get back into it now, although I have half a dozen suitable colours.

Fooogle · 30/04/2014 13:11

Lady that made me Grin as no, it is a school though perhaps they think they are following some protocol or other... I have some wedge courts too but they are in tan so feeling they are not the wintery palette I should have!
Would you wear silver to work? it may be the best neutral... Not sure what my work wardrobe is really...linen on one half or other and then something else...!

KosherBacon · 30/04/2014 21:39

Winters! Please share any of your recent purchases. I have just returned from a trip to John Lewis, Selfridges, Zara and Banana Republic in the Trafford Centre and have bought zilch.

Fabrics are crap, colours are wrong and styles are wrong. DH has sanctioned a wardrobe update and I can't bloomin spend the money!

kosher I just bought this blouse. It's a good shade of grey for me.

QueenCadbury · 30/04/2014 21:58

And this blouse

SorrelForbes · 30/04/2014 22:14

I like that second link QueenCadbury. I can feel a trip to Zara coming on.

KosherBacon · 01/05/2014 06:08

I went into Zara yesterday and it was just a disaster. Every table looked like the floor of a teenagers bedroom, with clothes dumped everywhere. A charity shop looks nicer.

Queen- what style are you? Do you have some ingenue or gamine in there?

OP posts:
QueenCadbury · 01/05/2014 07:29

kosher I'm ingenue natural

KosherBacon · 01/05/2014 07:30

The other girl that did the style day with me was that too, Queen.

Fooogle I think I would go for navy, seems to me the best neutral. I have a pair of lotta in burgundy - these are mine. Haven't worn them much yet due to the weather but hope I will in the summer. They take a bit of getting used to as they are heavy.

MrsCocoa I don't know the theory re burnished / sultry but know it is the darker end of the palette, I think the closest bit to the autumn palette if that makes sense. I think you can suit things like tan / brown accessories more than other winters and also wear some gold as well as silver. But I am no expert!

Kosher I got excited when you asked us to link recent purchases as I love shopping, but looking through my recent purchases I don't have anything very exciting to share.

I've shared this already but have worn it now and it is useful. 50% cotton too.

Not a purchase but long sleeve version in 100% cotton.

Again not a purchase but looks like a lovely ice colour here

I bought these - the slate colour is a good match for mole. But sent them back as too tight for me.

Bought this and hoping it is true white. Hasn't arrived yet.

Bought and worn these harem trousers a lot.

This isn't really winter but I liked it!

I seem to have gone a bit Boden crazy recently but I also bought this in the preview (thought it was grey / mole) but now thinking it might not be right colourwise. May cancel.

Can't imagine any of that will be very helpful to you Kosher! Do you have a pinboard of the styles you should go for? Is 'pirate' one of your words or did I read that on another thread?!

KosherBacon · 01/05/2014 08:18

MrPop! Wow, thanks for the links! I think Want to try harem trousers- do you always wear them with heels? I might order some! And those outnet tops look so useful.

The pirate look is more romantic natural rather than natural romantic (I have no idea why they gave two categories such similar names!). There aren't any Pinterest boards, but I've made this one and am waiting to hear back from my consultant about it. It's all about too formal and not enough for changing toddler dirty nappies!

Also bought these sandals for summer (am on a roll now!)

Today am wearing black hush harems, black long sleeve top, raspberry poncho (from seasalt) and black leather high top trainers. Weather v uninspiring today.

What is everyone wearing today?

MrPop · 01/05/2014 08:33

Kosher I wear the harems from hush (I have some other pairs that are more like joggers) usually with ballet flats / slipper flats - this kind of thing. I don't really like wearing heels but think they would look good with them. They suit more of an open shoe though I am wearing them with trainers today.

Final link from me - I love these sandals

Just looked at your board - the key words at the top do suggest quite a smart look. Hush is quite drapey but also casual, and maybe me and em? Did your consultant tell you any celebs who have this look? I always find it useful to see how other people wear the style.

KosherBacon · 01/05/2014 08:49

My consultant suggested Holly Willoughby, Fern Britton(!!!), Charlotte Church, Kate Winslet, Coleen Rooney, Martine McCutcheon and Catherine Zeta Jones. None of them seem to be photographed in off duty casual really.

I like those silver sandals! Right! Off to find a Hush and Stories code!

OP posts:
Flofloflo · 01/05/2014 08:55

kosher, I've seen colleen Rooney at my local soft play, wearing off duty casual! Not really relevant to this thread as she was wearing black jeans and a black crochet lacey type top but Just wanted to say that she looked like a normal woman playing with her kids, not a celebrity with loads of makeup etc.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 01/05/2014 09:20

Also helpful to remember that the Hoc stuff is to help you look your best. Not always necessary to look your best. Grin I am wearing high waist straight leg jeans, black top scoop neck, small silver necklace. I look fine. Nothing special, not that sort of day here.

SorrelForbes · 01/05/2014 09:24

Today I'm wearing Next Relaxed Skinnies, red Uniqlo round next sweater, navy Boden loafers.

All purchases made since my style and colour days! I'm still erring towards the gamine side of things which I know isn't right but Romantic Classic is hard for day to day (school run etc.) dressing!

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 01/05/2014 09:49

Love that jumper, Sorrel. Grin

MrPop · 01/05/2014 10:10

Pinterest is so addictive! Found some of Holly casual

It is quite a polished look isn't it? Skinny jeans and waterfall type cardigans and scarf for every day casual? Worn with some mid heeled ankle boots like ash jalouse?

Kate Winslet does quite a few casual looks.

Coleen Rooney - like this one!

Bit smarter but still casual

KosherBacon · 01/05/2014 17:05

Wow MrPop! Thank you! I can't find any of those drapey blazers that Holly Willabooby wears. As for the silver sandals, they are sold out in my size.

I did buy some harem pants (or lux jiggers as they are now called) in Top Shop, but they only do plain in black, not charcoal or navy, so they might go back. I also bought a bright navy scarf with teal (not a winter colour), fuchsia and charcoal stripes through it.

Would this be ice blue? I likey.
