Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from part 1 here and part 2 here

Do you want to know more about what a winter is? These resources are good places to start here and here.

Scared to try bright lipstick? Previous winter favourite makeup items include Mac Plumful, Revlon Lip Butters in Berry Smoothie and Red Velvet and Revlon gloss in Bordeaux. They are all good places to start without being scarily bright for a newly diagnosed winter. More makeup tips can be found here and by reading through previous threads.

KosherBacon - how did the style day go? I still haven't had mine yet and finances are a bit tight a.t.m. I haven't been buying much either as my weight is fluctuating by 5 kg up and down (mostly up) and I'm on a serious decluttering spree. (namechanger BTW)

KosherBacon · 27/04/2014 07:31

Hello MrsCocoa- it does sound like you could be a winter.

Shiny baubles- I'm a sultry winter. There are a few of us on here. We tend to be more neutral tones rather than obviously clear. The previous winter threads have loads of ideas.

Ladywithalapdog- what was your name before? The style day went well. Even MORE for me to get my head around. I really struggled with some of the categories. I came out a natural romantic but my stylist has told me not to rush and buy as she wants to hone into the aspects of it that suit be best. We were stuck on that or romantic natural, however I'm not sure if it's too gregarious for me. A lot of my personality elements would push me to that style though. On the balance though we did think natural romantic.

Are there any other natural romantics? I posted on the thread last night but didn't get any replies. I've been struggling to find any Pinterest boards for it. I need to find a sultry winter natural romantic!

OP posts:
QueenCadbury · 27/04/2014 07:47

kosher I'm ingenue natural but my consultant toyed with whether I was natural ingenue. I'm the end though she decided that I'm a natural with ingenue leanings but am pretty much 50:50 for both the natural and ingenue aspect. From what I remember romantic is the next step up from ingenue? I was advised to always add girly details to my outfits such as pin tucks, crochet collars, embroidery etc. Would it be similar for you in that you need to add frills, ruffles etc. I pretty much live in jeans (natural) with blouses (ingenue) snd now feel too scruffy in a plain tee. Do you lurk on the other colour threads? A lot of them talk about style too which is why I lurk ( there's a lot of ingenues and naturals on the spring thread) and hopefully is on the autumn thread and travel is on the summer thread so maybe able to help you more?

KosherBacon · 27/04/2014 08:04

Queen-

Oops posted too soon! That's the issue. I'm not a natural at all, jeans never look properly right on me etc and as for ruffles, frills and girly things like that, I look stupid. I don't like the glitter and sparkle of the romantic too. I like drapery, layering etc.

OP posts:
LadyWithLapdog · 27/04/2014 09:14

That sounds interesting about the style day. I don't think you need to get hung up about the label (not that you are). I don't think I'd like romantic as in my mind that would be ruffles and flowing things and I'm too tall and short haired for that. But it's probably not what it's about :) Enjoy the reinvention of your wardrobe. (previously LCHammer BTW, got bored of the name though still trying to do low carb)

shinybaubles · 27/04/2014 13:30

Hi everyone , I suppose because I have a wardrobe of beige and brown and dark green etc, and loads of brown, bronzey makeup. I guess it's just a big change.
What are the more neutral colours? I have been through my wardrobe and I have hardly any winter colours, I am going to try and pop to a colour consult in John Lewis soon - just to make sure the colours are right as it is going to cost a fortune to replace my clothes, and they need replacing anyway.

KosherBacon · 27/04/2014 13:38

Don't get overwhelmed with the bright colours, Shinybaubles, think about building a basic wardrobe of black, white, navy, charcoal and think of the other colours as accessories, or as a single item eg cardigan etc. You don't have to replace everything all at once though!

OP posts:
shinybaubles · 27/04/2014 13:51

Thanks Kosher I was heading straight for the bright stuff, I will start with what you have suggested. I do need to replace most stuff soonish as I am finally shifting weight, I have a long way to go, but it would be nice to look as good as I can while I do it.

shinybaubles · 27/04/2014 13:53

And while I remember can I ask about prints and patterns the lady I saw didn't mention them, also jewellery does this mean white gold rather than yellow ?

KosherBacon · 27/04/2014 13:57

Prints etc come if you do the style day- they talk about sizes of prints and types of prints. Its impossible to tell from the colour day alone. It is worth baring in mind that if you have a pattern, it doesn't have to be 100% from the winter palette. I think my consultant said it should be 80% winter. As for jewellery, winters tend to be white gold, but the sultry winters can get away with a tiny bit of yellow gold, as they are less cool and more neutral toned.

OP posts:
QueenCadbury · 27/04/2014 14:06

shiny when you had the consultation could you see that the colours looked good? You don't sound convinced... Also, check whether any of your beige items you own are cool toned as they may tone in with the stone and mole from your wallet. Similarly with the dark green, it may be similar to the pine green swatch? As others have said don't go too mad shopping initially, maybe just a top/scarf in your best colour to start with.

shinybaubles · 27/04/2014 14:06

Thank you Kosher will also do the style day I think as I clearly need more help.

QueenCadbury · 27/04/2014 14:07

shiny definitely don't buy too much now if you're planning on doing the style day. But get to grips with your colours first otherwise you risk feeling totally overwhelmed.

shinybaubles · 27/04/2014 14:30

Hi Queen I am feeling a tad overwhelmed - how did you guessSmile

QueenCadbury · 27/04/2014 14:35

Because we all did when we got diagnosed shiny. I'd been wearing muted colours and was told I'm a sprinter winter so should wear the brightest colours in the pallette. Took some getting used to but I can see that they look so much better. And the lipstick took months to get used to!

shinybaubles · 27/04/2014 15:06

Can I ask has anyone seen any lightweight summer scarves in winter colours?

pinkflaming0 · 27/04/2014 15:51

Hi shiny

I bought this raspberry scarf this week. There's also a more ruffled style in the same colour 50% off at the moment.

shinybaubles · 27/04/2014 15:52

That's nice thank you pinkflaming0, I wouldn't have thought of looking there.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 27/04/2014 17:32

Romantic style was (I think) described by my consultant as 'clothes only a woman could wear'. Does that help at all? Confused

So to contrast, my gamine style is girl-ish but in a fairly androgynous way, sometimes a bit boy-ish. Lines are straightish, tailored and neat. Clothes don't have much movement, drape, or flow. If I see something described as oversized, casual fit, slouchy, or baggy, I avoid it. Sometimes it helps knowing what you aren't!

pinkflaming0 · 27/04/2014 17:56

Yes shiny I don't know how I came across it. I think it just popped up when I was on the Tesco.com site. I ordered it online. It's a bit brighter than my perfect raspberry but still good.

KosherBacon · 28/04/2014 09:43

Hello fellow winters! I've had more emails back and forth with my consultant and we do think I'm a natural romantic, so clothes need to be soft, drapey, feminine, no hard edges, with rich fabrics and medium sized prints.

I need to start replacing some key items in my wardrobe. I need a spring summer jacket/coat. It needs to be in a winter colour (but not black or ice colours), and be single breasted, drapey, v neck/ start at the bust, ideally with a belt to emphasise my waist.

I like this coat but its just a shame its polyester and viscose, not wool, and I don't want black! www.oasis-stores.com/short-drape-coat/jackets-&-coats/oasis/fcp-product/4500044101

Any ideas?

Ooh Kosher it sounds quite complicated (the style day and what you have to bare in mind when shopping). Was the style a surprise to you or does it fit in with what you have in your wardrobe?

I am quite keen to do the style day. I think I will come out with a hefty dose of natural, with a quirky edge (not sure what the HoC term for that is!) I really like the way twentymumthing dresses (not necessarily the crop top) and think I dress in a similar but less edgy way.

Can you go when pregnant or would that be restrictive to finding out body shape etc?

pinkflaming0 · 28/04/2014 21:49

MrsCocoa your colouring sounds exactly like mine down to the tricky to describe eyes. I was diagnosed as a winter years ago but it never quite sat comfortably with me. I was re-done a couple of months ago and was told I am a burnished winter. It makes so much sense now. I suit the darker and more muted colours my best being charcoal, navy, raspberry (which I love), lobelia (purple), burgundy and pine green - the last two I'd never have picked out for myself.

My least good colours are the ice colours (except ice green which is good) and the brightest e.g. electric blue, cerise, scarlet - these are the colours I thought of as winter before which is why I wasn't confident that I was a winter.

I now live in the HoC burgundy lipstick (more a deep raspberry in my opinion) and MAC plumful.

QueenCadbury · 28/04/2014 21:55

kosher glad you've had some clarification. I'm sure I've seen a grey coat like the oasis one but can't remember where

mrpop twentymumthing is a dramatic gamine. Not sure about doing it whilst pregnant. Have a chat with your consultant and see what they say.
