Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from part 1 here and part 2 here

Do you want to know more about what a winter is? These resources are good places to start here and here.

Scared to try bright lipstick? Previous winter favourite makeup items include Mac Plumful, Revlon Lip Butters in Berry Smoothie and Red Velvet and Revlon gloss in Bordeaux. They are all good places to start without being scarily bright for a newly diagnosed winter. More makeup tips can be found here and by reading through previous threads.

Flewlady I do not think so. But if it is a summer top, then you may need something a bit lighter and with more holes in them? Like this?

img1.etsystatic.com/000/2/6220416/il_340x270.265026131.jpg

Last year was the first time I bought a white shirt based on its knitting pattern and the thinness. I was so much cooler during the summer. I used to wear my good old uniqlo cardigans which were made from wool. Blush

I think the necklace is a great idea. Smile
I found this chart last year about the different necklines with different necklaces. Who knew such things are necessary ? Hehe.

I got a question actually. How do you know the actual name of the colour of pieces which you may have already to the Kettlewell colour chart or the Hoc chart ?

Are the name of colours all the same or do you need to go by some kind of international ISO number ?

I'm trying to sort out my wardrobe now by seasons, so I do not pick it wrong if I happen to be in that season or period.

didireallysaythat · 16/04/2014 22:23

Another cheeky ask: do you think www.uniqlo.com/uk/store/goods/087264 this in 65 blue is a winter blue ? I've got 100% two stars with royal blue, lobelia (I think this is purple?) and 50% two stars with electric blue (which I'm hoping it might be close to). I'm thinking this would be my summer outfit (to go with black jeans, black camisoles and black ballets, or maybe denim), but I'm struggling to find a bright enough blue (my wardrobe is 50% summer navy I think...)

Thank you

QueenCadbury · 17/04/2014 08:21

did it looks like it may be bright enough but in my limited experience of uniqlo some of their stuff is quite muted rather than bright.

QueenCadbury · 17/04/2014 08:49

2 questions....

  1. Has anyone used dylon navy dye? Is it a nice dark navy?
  2. If you were wesring jeans, grey top, red cardi, what colour bag would you use? Black, grey or fuschia?
SorrelForbes · 17/04/2014 09:30

QueenCadbury On the bag question, I'd wear grey or black.

flewlady · 17/04/2014 10:01

Thanks for the white cardi thoughts :)

SorrelForbes · 17/04/2014 13:18

Oh dear, another shopping trip Blush.

H&M White t-shirt - Not my sought after perfect silk top, but quite close (in look if not quality!) and a bargain at £6.99

H&M blue vest - in-between shades 10 & 11 so not perfect colour wise but nice and bright and cheap!

A white 3/4 sleeve top from Warehouse which I can't find on their web site. It's nice and fluid, not too see through, but I could have sized down. Only £14 so not worth the trip back to town to exchange.

Next sandals £16 in the girls' section. Off-white but really comfy and ideal for holidays.

bettybigballs · 17/04/2014 16:27

hello all, hope everyone's getting ready for a long weekend / lovely easter weekend?

My boden order arrived - loved everything, the t shirts you recommended sorrel are fab, lovely fit, nice length sleeves - i can't have sleeves finishing at boob level as it makes me look like tank.

Do we think this is icy? It looks beautifully summery - perfect with my new indigo pencil skirt.

SorrelForbes · 17/04/2014 18:37

Just seen my ideal white t-shirt linked to on another thread. So expensive Sad

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 17/04/2014 20:12

Sorrel, take comfort from thinking about how many cheap ones you can cover in spaghetti sauce for the same price. Grin.

SorrelForbes · 17/04/2014 20:27

You are absolutely right as I am an incredibly messy eater

pinkflaming0 · 17/04/2014 20:47

QueenCadbury I've used Dylon navy dye and had good results. Some things came out darker than others e.g. khaki shorts came out nice and dark but white t-shirt not so deep.

Hope this helps.

pinkflaming0 · 17/04/2014 20:54

Picked up MAC plumful lippy in Covent Garden yesterday - very pleased with it. Thanks to all who've recommended. Think that's my collection complete for the time being.

Booked in for Gelish nails, fingers and toes next week - my nail technician is amazed that I've started asking for bright colours. Hoping to find a deep pinky plum like the HoC burgundy lipstick and that the weather is sandal friendly!

KosherBacon · 18/04/2014 07:35

I'm going to struggle with summer. The ice colours look dreadful on me and I am such a messy eater. The silk top you posted is amazing, Sorrell. To live in a world where I can spend over £200 on a tshirt!

My clothes are a mess at the moment and nothing fits, however I have my style day a week tomorrow and DH has given me permission to shop afterwards!

flewlady · 18/04/2014 08:12

For the Summer I'm doing navy and white, splash of bright pink in cardies etc and dove grey. I have black and navy linen trousers which should be ok with white plus I own a pair of white jeans which look great with the bright blue and navy.

Still looking for sandals though!

SorrelForbes · 18/04/2014 08:58

A world I don't live in KosherBacon. If I hadn't have bought quite a few things over the last couple of weeks or so then I guess I'd have the cash to buy it but I'm sure it would be a magnet for food!

Enjoy your style day! I loved mine although as a Romantic Classic who shouldn't try to do casual, I'm struggling with what to wear on these sunny days! My look over the last few days seems to be quite preppy (white, navy, loafers, blazer) and I think that's what I'll stick to although it's probably a little too 'gamine'. I just need to find a nice summer dress (must be classic, clean lines and have sleeves!)

GingerLemonTea · 18/04/2014 09:10

Hi, been following the threads, but haven't posted for a while as pregnant so I've not been buying much. My everyday bag is done. I will have a toddler & a new baby so am thinking crossbody may be most practical. The size of a Radley crossbody or bigger. Has anyone seen anything. Was thinking black but a lot of these seem to have gold metalwork on them.
Budget up to £100.

GingerLemonTea · 18/04/2014 09:10

Don't want a Radley though.

SorrelForbes · 18/04/2014 09:34

flewlady I love the idea of dove grey with Navy. The Boden Ravello top in silver is between the silver and light grey shades in the winter palette.

MrPop · 18/04/2014 10:16

A quick hello from me.

I was on a short holiday in France - thought it would be cold but it was quite warm. I had packed black, navy and cobalt, not v summery.

I also bought an ice colour from kettlewell (ice pink) - Sorrel I also found it was not as icy as I expected. I initially liked the way it looked on but now I wish I had sent it back as it is unforgiving on my stomach! - this one

Going away meant some spending in duty free - Thanks to those who mentioned MAC craving and the tomato red chubby stick (really like that one as I didn't have anything similar). So that must be me done for lipsticks.

what colour mascaras and eye pencils do you use? (Feels next shopping obsession coming on...)

Sorell that ££ top (lovely) you linked to made me think of this kind of shell top I have seen on some blogs;

this

Not sure if that is still available from tesco. Whistles did one and warehouse too I think.

Happy Easter all Easter Smile

MrPop · 18/04/2014 10:19

Hmmm this looks off white. Don't think it is the one in the blog I posted.

TheGruffalo2 · 18/04/2014 10:34

I'm afraid I found all my Kettlewell order "unforgiving" of my midriff bulges, so it all went back.

SorrelForbes · 18/04/2014 10:58

I'm keeping my Kettlewell top as I can't be arsed to send it back but I don't think I'll be ordering again. My stomach isn't one of my problem areas but the top is still a bit too clingy. It'll be fine under t-shirts or on holiday with shorts.

I only use black mascara and I don't bother with eye pencils. I use a flat headed brush to push charcoal eye shadow into my lash line.

That Tesco top in the blog would be perfect. I've seen the other one and it's not a winter white, unfortunately. It's probably a bit boxy for me anyway.

flewlady · 18/04/2014 14:23

Advice please!

I mentioned upthread that I bought this dress and thought a white cardi might be ok. www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_120010263643_-1

I couldn't find one but found this navy linen shrug
www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-capsule-collection-linen-shrug/p1151088

I've never owned a shrug in my life but it would be a really useful addition to add to my wardrobe as I would wear it with short sleeve dresses.

The model on the JL link makes it look hideous wearing it with a white long vest - would it be ok for what I need - a summer cover-up for dresses which are navy/white?
