Done it...

OP posts:
motherinferior · 21/03/2014 10:02

Herbs, that risk really is tiny - went through it with my own idiot dad who was behaving as if it were heart surgery - the risks are far, far lower than they used to be. I will dig out my latest on the topic later...

I will bring a silver bag if nothing else. Wish this damn conference would start. Have already had to throw wobbly to get a desk for the laptop - I cannot spend the day with the damn thing on my lap - and refuse to be a 'speaker liaison'...8Angry

wilbur · 21/03/2014 11:35

I am in a bit of a grump, back much better but still aching a lot, and I want to go and sit in the sun with my interesting book, but I have to do several hours of minutes of a v dull meeting, and then go through a nice but also dull website to see where it could be improved. I should not complain as both tasks mean extra money, but I'm going to complain anyway, it's that kind of day.

MrsS - that's good news, sounds like the doc is on top of things even if the hospital system is not.

Crem - glad your dad feeling better and Ruby - good news about your mum.

Loved all the links to brogues, esp the ones with cutaways. I've never tried mine with skirts, but maybe a shortish one? I try to go for the Katherine Hepburn look with wide leg trews and brogues like this. Love that look.

herbaceous · 21/03/2014 11:45

I have an irrational objection to cutaways in shoes. Especially brogues. And yes - I think the skirt has to be on or above the knee, or it's very Miss Jean Brodie.

So much looking forward to our crepey get-together next week, I'm feeling quite giddy.

hattymattie · 21/03/2014 12:01

Wilbur - love that look as well although I think I'd prob just look like a bloke rather than Katherine Hepburn.

Glad everybody's health is improving slightly. Off for lunch now after a morning sorting out stuff for DD to take to Germany tomorrow.

Stropperella · 21/03/2014 12:02

MrsS, so glad to hear they've caught your nasty in time and will be keeping a close eye on things from now on.

Crem, hope your dad is continuing to improve today and will soon be able to go and get some proper rest at home. Ruby, glad to hear things are looking up with your mum.

Brogues: I bought some Clarks Hamble in dark tan, but constantly fear the "lesbian council worker" look and don't think I could work 'em with any kind of skirt. I very much want to do a Katherine Hepburn look, but I am too short and too not-like-her-at-all. Grin I just wear them with skinny trews and stripey socks. As a try-hard from the provinces, I recently purchased these for creeping about when I am invigilating. (The brogues make a clacky sound on the floor and are therefore no use)

I have once again spent the morning staring at lots of teenagers and wondering if it is possibly time I stopped dressing like one.

I'm afraid I won't be able to make the sparkly crepey gathering next Fri as we have loads of work and I won't be able to award myself Friday off as I generally do when going to a crepey convention. I will be very sorry not to see everybody.

wilbur · 21/03/2014 12:26

Love, love those Converse, Stropps. I may have to buy a pair too, since they are on sale.

Stropperella · 21/03/2014 12:38

Wilbur, someone at the school gate asked to stroke them Grin

Blackduck · 21/03/2014 12:46

Stropps those converse are awesome...... I could be converted....

:( not to see you next Friday....

cremolafoam · 21/03/2014 12:56

Boo Stropps we'll miss youSad
Love the converse jobs

bigTillyMint · 21/03/2014 13:17

Wilbur, I love that look too. And Katherine Hepburn, particularly with Spencer Tracey. Why do they never seem to show the oldies any more - I used to love watching the b&w movies when I was young.

Sad you can't come Stropps

lalsy · 21/03/2014 15:15

MrsS, that is great news, what a relief for you. Rudy and Crem, I am glad your news is better too. My dm is in a bit of a state as her dp is becoming aggressive and irrational Sad - I don't know what I can do (they don't live very close).

NUFC69 · 21/03/2014 15:44

Glad to hear that the parents are improving, but sorry to hear about lalsy's problem with her DM - that sounds very worrying.

MrsS, so pleased to hear the good news about your health problems.

It's been a lovely day here apart from the quick storm which meant I had to rush out to bring in the washing from the line - we've still got the heating on, though, as it is cold. My back might be marginally better, not sure tbh, and not pushing it just in case.

QueenQueenie · 21/03/2014 16:08

Roll call for next Friday as I should probably give a firmish idea of numbers to the restaurant over the weekend.
Please post to let me know if I've got anything wrong and included you when you can't come or vice versa...
Also if you've asked me for an address / directions and I haven't replied or if you haven't asked but want an address / directions...

Stropps very sad you can't join us.
Laisy are you able to come?
Rudy, Yay!

Very pleased it's Friday. Happy weekends everyone.

lalsy · 21/03/2014 16:34

No, sorry, I definitely can't now but look forward to hearing all about it/shiny clothes.

Is it drink time yet?

bigTillyMint · 21/03/2014 16:49

Yes, TFIF!

lalsySad you can't come. Glad to hear all good news medical-wise.

Came home to find DS trying to write his sonnet for English homework. Coincidentally his teacher rang as I was walking home to tell me he seemed to have disengaged a bit this week (and I bet he is distracting others, although she politely didn't mention that!). Which I'm sure he has - poetry is really not his thing and he is only getting on with the poem now as it's his birthday tomorrow and he has a match Sunday.

hattymattie · 21/03/2014 17:05

Just read the abusive ex thread[shock makes DH seem a total saint (not telling him that though).

motherinferior · 21/03/2014 17:43

Oh god I am exhausted and we are pretty well out of drinkable booze - had to make sodding laptop work, plug it in and then, then the E key fell off....

bigTillyMint · 21/03/2014 17:47

MI, you have just reminded me to stick a bottle of fizz in the fridge!

Addle are you going to PF tonight? I am going to our mutual friend's with said bottle insteadWink

motherinferior · 21/03/2014 18:30

Have found some gin. DP of course not back yet; IABU as I shall have to work tomorrow, but I do find the aforementioned assumption that I will pick up domestic slack v wearing Angry. If I say, explicitly, that I will not be around he is perfectly fine but it's the daily slog...

He is apparently on way home so I may postpone gin and nip to supermarket (neither of us has done anything about online order) after our customary Friday egg and chipsGrin

Blackduck · 21/03/2014 22:01

Tired tired tired... Pub tonight...
Must book train tickets ... Can't wait ;)

CointreauVersial · 21/03/2014 23:54

Just back from the re-re-re-scheduled girls' night out, and it was lovely to see everyone again. We first got together as a group when our DS's all joined Y3 at the same primary school, but now I'm the only one who still has a child there, and our paths barely cross; it's a shame because we get on so well whenever we meet up, and could have happily talked all night. Lots of "issues", though: one friend is still battling with ME, one is being given the runaround by new boyfriend with "emotional attachment issues" and one is fighting to prevent her house being repossessed post-bankruptcy. Just me and one other friend with boring uncomplicated lives and no particular trauma to share.

I came away with a few late birthday presents - scarves and candles - they know me well. Grin

Ruby - good to hear about your DM; I was wondering.... And MrsS, thank goodness !

motherinferior · 22/03/2014 09:54

OMG am unreasonably thrilled about the Muppets webchat on Monday!

NUFC69 · 22/03/2014 10:29

Grin, MI.

I have just had to dash outside because elderly (16 yo) cat was stalking a lovely little red squirrel across the back garden. I now know that I will need to watch him when he is outside; really thought that he was past it as we have had no unwelcome rodents in the house recently.

herbaceous · 22/03/2014 11:22

I'm going for a record of unhealthy eating today. Started last night with slice of pizza then a curry, plus wine, continued with a bacon and egg sandwich this morning, will be heading for a climax with a fifth birthday party this afternoon, then peak this evening at the choir quiz night with fish and chips. Bring your own booze.

I'm going to need some serious starvation to look anything other than corpulent in the gold skirt next week.

bigTillyMint · 22/03/2014 11:27

Herbs, you and me too! Had a lovely evening round at a friends last night which involved lots of wine and gorgeous nibbles. And I didmt get to bed till 1.30 Shock
