Done it...

Way to go, MI Smile.

I have been known to ask people for a quote by email, read the utter gibberish they send, then gently suggest that perhaps they meant xyz instead. The usually reply yes, gosh, how did you know?

motherinferior · 20/03/2014 14:26

Oh yes, that too.

I am supposed to produce four (4, IV) features out of this conference. Have firmly proposed I do a 'based on' three features...

motherinferior · 20/03/2014 14:41

ooh look

bigTillyMint · 20/03/2014 14:47

CV, I have Superga. I thought I looked pretty on trend in them, but DD turned her nose up and said that noone has ever heard of them!

herbaceous · 20/03/2014 14:52

I Love those, MI. Sisters to the blue ones I linked, I believe.

NUFC69 · 20/03/2014 14:55

Love the pink and pale blue brogues; I like them on other people but don't think they would be right on me.

Well, back from town; dental hospital went well but I was very shocked when optician told me that I had the start of cataracts. Sad They're keeping an eye on it for now. I suppose it shouldn't have come as a shock: a friend who is 5 years younger than me had hers done earlier this year.

Sounds like good news for MrsS - so pleased for her.

motherinferior · 20/03/2014 15:01

Oh pants - but cataract is pretty well inevitable for many of us, NUFC. I've got the very beginnings of them too. Just means a day op. And no glasses afterwards Grin

I am producing the bones of feature number 3...on eyes, as it happens Grin

bigTillyMint · 20/03/2014 15:21

My DM has just had her cateracts done aged 82. She has worn glasses all her life (from small child!) and said that noone recognised her without them, so she put them on to go outGrin

motherinferior · 20/03/2014 15:29

I'm looking at it as free laser surgery. Oh, I'm such a little ray of sunshine, me.

Mind you I feel quite worn out with this conference and it hasn't even started yet...

hattymattie · 20/03/2014 16:31

Hurrah for Mrs S that must her a weight off her mind.

NU Sad for the cataracts - the good thing is, that they've been spotted early and can be monitored.

On brogues, I'm afraid I'm with CV - to be avoided with a skirt unless you want to look like my old games teacher (believe me you don't); or unless you have legs like DD1 and can wear them with a short skirtEnvy.

I have had a nice lunch with old friend in Paris followed by a walk down rue St Honore where I spotted sandals consisting of a sole and two straps for â?¬1000Hmm.

bigTillyMint · 20/03/2014 17:38

I was thinking short skirt and thick tights, NOT the old games/history teacher look!

NUFC69 · 20/03/2014 18:02

You're quite right, MI. I never thought that it would be possible that I might not have to wear my glasses - that would be bliss. Out of the three people I know who have had cataracts done over the last year two no longer wear glasses and the third has never worn them anyway (amazing as she is probably getting on for 80!). Sounds like a silver lining to me.

It wasn't our games or history teacher who wore the brogues when I was at school, but our science teacher: she was wonderful, had never married, wore long brown skirts, brown cardigans; thick, were they called lyle?, stockings and brown brogues. She was very slender and would possibly have looked great as a flapper, but her "uniform" did nothing for her. I am afraid with Miss B in mind I really couldn't wear brogues with skirts.

cremolafoam · 20/03/2014 21:56

Mrs s - very glad to hear that the news seems to be positive.

Dad had a better day today so we are all feeling less stressed.

Can I just ask - are we rocking the metallic thang next week. Don't want to turn up looking like a Christmas cracker if everyone has moved into spring outfits with bi-colour brogues.Grin Those silver ones are fantabulous MI

Sorry to hear about thine eyes NUSad.
What are the treatment options? Can cataracts be reversed ?< clueless>

bigTillyMint · 20/03/2014 22:05

That's good CremoSmile

I am planning to wear my new silvery skirt, which I only bought because of thisGrin Though I am not sure what with!

NUFC69 · 20/03/2014 22:08

Good about DDad, Crem , your mum will soon have him home. Re cataracts, I don't know quite what they do, but it's a simple day visit to hospital, sore eye and no driving for a couple of days. Here they don't generally do both eyes on the same day. Should be nothing to worry about and I might even end up with better vision. I had just never thought about the possibility, which is why it was a shock.

Me too. Good to see you Rudy Smile

bigTillyMint · 21/03/2014 06:08

Great to see you Rudy, and pleased to hear your DM is making progress. Am going to PM youSmile

Blackduck · 21/03/2014 08:08

Rudy and Cremo crossed fingers for both your parents.
Rudy hope you are okay - and great that 28th looks good!
Getting excited now (but don't have anything sparkly - may see if the local charity shops can throw up a scarf.....)

Have a Fab Friday all - sunny here :)

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 21/03/2014 08:42

Got a call from the nurse at the hospital yesterday - huge relief; it is melanoma, but very small and "in situ". She said that they got all of it out, but I will have more skin removed just to make sure. And check ups every three months, due to my family history. Given my family history, I was very worried that they might have discovered one that was too big/deep to do anything about. Have not called my mother yet; leaving her to enjoy worrying for a bit longer.

I have nothing shiny to wear; may purchase a scarf.

Good news MrsS!!

motherinferior · 21/03/2014 09:45

Cataract progression may possibly be slowed IIRC but most people end up with v simple day op, yes. Am at vision conference today surrounded by seriously blind people....

herbaceous · 21/03/2014 09:52

Hurrah for 'in situ' melanoma, Mrs S.

Re cataracts, my mum's had hers done and is a new woman. Dad, however, has been blind in one eye since birth, and a cataract on his good eye is making him nearly blind in the other, so he can't read, watch telly, etc. He steadfastly refuses to have it operated on, though, because of the 0.00000000000001% chance of it going wrong and leaving him blind. Which he will be if he doesn't have it done. Drives me mad.

I shall be wearing my gold skirt. It will be its first, and possibly only, outing!
