Oh I'm sure it would be lovely in autumn/winter - it smells a bit odd in almost-June! It's nice though, even if it does smell like cough mixture and fruit cake (tobacco smells like rich fruit cake to me).

On a chilly damp walk in woodland, my dog walking chum went "Wow"; this is not necessarily a recommendation for everyday wear.

I am in a scent dilemma; at one end of the spectrum, I like rich amber-woody scents; at the other, thin fragile citrus incense-teas, nothing very floral.

Tried Mitsouko today again - got fusty, musty, stale old lady.Really does not smell good on me.Tried Chanel no 19 again - smelt lovely on the tester strip - horrible on me.Coco Chanel smells OK though!
Then tried the L'occitane perfumes available in a 3 boxed set - liked these.Ellie Saab Parfum Intense was the best though - a beautiful Vanilla/Honeyed scent just right for cold weather and winter.

Hi, I'm new to the fragrance thread. I'm currently wearing Versace Vanitas which I used to love but am getting a bit bored so looking for new ideas. I've tried many perfumes but the only other one I've really loved is Isabella Rossellini Manifesto. I prefer light scents which is probably obvious, white floral, only slightly citrusy, I hate amber and vanilla based smells. Any recommendations please?

Welcome Ceecee! I am another fan of Manifesto so if you like that you will probably like green scents such as A Scent by Issey Miyake, Chanel Cristalle, or even Elizabeth Arden Green Tea. There is also an Elizabeth Arden Green Tea flanker called Green Tea Revitalize which is wonderfully green and citrussy. I bought a big bottle for a tenner in Superdrug.

Hi Ceecee.
SOTD is Grand Neroli by Atelier Cologne.I really love this effervescent orange blossom opening that eventually warms to a lightweight Amber/Vanilla base.I just wish the Neroli/orange blossom topnote would persist for longer.I'm definitely going through an orange blossom phase at the moment.
My initial choice today was Serge Lutens Sa Majeste La Rose which reminds me of the the Rose M&S perfume by Miller Harris. Both are green and slightly acrid on me.Sadly had to wash it off

Thanks both for the suggestions, will sniff them out! I'm always overwhelmed when I go into a shop so it's good to know what to head for.

Yardley Jade is very like Chanel Cristalle btw.

Also, a request - best big carnation smells? Doesn't have to be pure carnation but I just love that spicy floral scent.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 31/05/2014 22:04

Now Yardley is something I wouldn't have thought to try! Thanks

MyrtleDove · 31/05/2014 22:43

If you're trying Yardley you might like to try Daisy - light green floral. Doesn't last on me at all which is a shame as it's very pretty. Worth trying out all their scents tbh, Jade is part of their new, more contemporary fragrance range and it's a great value little range.

YY- Yardley Jade is very, very similar to Cristalle but costs 19.99 in Boots, whereas Cristalle is around 40 quid for 35ml.

Myrtle- carnation- try Caron Bellodgia, Caron Poivre, Serge Lutens Vitriol D'oeillet, or Tableaux de Parfums Ingrid. ( I hope I've got all those spellings right!)

Onelittlelady I have your perfume - Thank you.The little Prada bottle with the orange top is so cute!

Dd2 counted over the weekend that I had 72 samples. Is anyone is up for a sample
Swop?I'm going to try and refrain from buying any more ( after the Atelier samples arrive).

Canny, I thought my sample collection was out of hand but I must be snapping at your heels... a swap sounds enticing.

SOTD is a Nose sample: the first sniff for 1270 (Frapin). It's light, green and woody and quite masculine but within the comfort zone for a very grey day. Not entirely sure what I am smelling in this yet; if you know it, please be kind and spell out what's eluding me.

Brilliant canny I hope you get along better with it than I did Smile

Wow,I have just received the Atelier Cologne sample box.Approx 13 samples( haven't counted them all!)with postcards attached wrapped up with leather binding in tissue paper.
The first one sampled arbitrarily is Sous Le toit de paris.Opens with a burst of orange blossom followed by a heart of fresh violets - just lovely. This includes my favourite elements plus a smoky leather/Vetiver accord which makes this a bit different to other colognes.

Bronze Goddess is a cult classic of it's kind, all suntan lotion and jasmine. This year's edition is a re-issue of the original formula, so is likely to sell out more quickly than usual.

Personally, I'm not a fan, but I know a load of people who go absolutely bonkers for it.

Thanks for the Carnation recs. SOTD is Opium. I wish I could wear fresh florals :(

Report
canny1234 · 02/06/2014 19:36

Yes Toomuchtea would love to swop for those.
Cressetmama, I would also like to exchange scents.I'm glad I'm not the only one with so many samples. It really is a bit of an addiction.
Can you pm me with the type of scents you like and I will try match mine up!

Greyhound I have this years bottle minus 3 sprays if you want to buy it off me.I was going to eBay it.Its really not my thing - too much warmth and amber for me.I usually go for citrus/green/floral perfumes in the summer instead.I succumbed to the advertising before I really thought this through.
