My MFK samples have arrived!

Have just sprayed aquae vitae, and am loving the citrus freshness of it. I've also got aqua universalis, apom femme and lumiere noire femme to try.

Also loving the fact that my parcel was addressed to Mme rather than Mrs ScienceRocks. Makes me feel sophisticated Grin

canny1234 · 16/05/2014 09:46

Its thrilling when you receive the samples. The thing is I'm getting pretty addicted to the excitement of the chase.I keep on bidding on eBay but luckily other people are beating me to it.So far this week I have ordered another set of Nose samples,Sharini sample set and some Byredo samples from Alla Violetta.I must stop spending money.
Walked the dog on the N.T. hills next to us last night.Smelt Lilac (heavenly - can someone recommend me a Lilac other than En Passant) hawthorn and bluebells along with dd2.Scented evening walks after a sunny day are absolutely magical.
SOTD is a Lorenzo Villerosi Cologne from Nose.Science will send you the samples today!

cressetmama · 16/05/2014 09:53

The Roger & Gallet Sandalwood soap is still made and very agreeable toomuchtea but not in the pretty three soap box any more.

And my 4160 Tuesday samples came yesterday. At first sniff I agree with the person who said they were individually distinctive. Which to try first?

ScienceRocks · 16/05/2014 10:23

Canny, isn't Fleur d'Interdit lilac-based? Givenchy, I think. Also Jo Malone lilac and rhubarb, more obviously. Also going to the post office today, have had one of those weeks!

Love Roger and Gallet, cresset, it's my little treat in Marks and Spencer!

cressetmama · 16/05/2014 12:55

The M&S beauty department is good, science; they have chosen the stock well. Sadly it is about the only treat in M&S these days... unless you have a much better one than us!

FuzzLightbeard · 16/05/2014 20:14

Canny I do the same! I'm nearly always outbid. Just ordered my third set of nose samples too. Btw- when you evaluate your samples, DO NOT order the next set straight away. Log out and you should get an email offering the next set at a discount Wink

Cressetmama have you tried the Shay & Blue range at M&S yet? They are lovely, especially Amber Rose.

I love this time of year too, wisteria, lilacs, bluebells and all sorts of blossom. SOTEvening is Escada Especially Elixir- one of the better fruity florals around at the moment I think.

cressetmama · 16/05/2014 20:42

Good tip on Nose samples Fuzz. And no, I am not sure that Shay & Blue has been cascaded down to Plymouth yet but will keep my eyes peeled as I love a good amber.

SOTD has been Urara's Tokyo Cafe; very pretty and spring-like but I am not sure it's going to be a regular except in May. The lasting power is superb though I got a lot of raspberry jam in the middle.

canny1234 · 17/05/2014 10:32

Heeley Verveine is SOTD on a beautifully sunny day - lemon verbena and rhubarb. The white Wisteria is unfurling and the first scented flowers have appeared.I now have to hunt for a realistic Wisteria scent.
Thank you Science I will try Fleur d'Interdit.
Cressetmama Urara is my favourite Tuesdays scent. It will remind me of spring in winter. On cold days I really adore wearing Rose based perfumes.
Fuzz really?

FuzzLightbeard · 17/05/2014 17:20

Canny yes honestly, I really like it. It's a light rose/ pear combo, just pleasant for warm weather and I do quite like the odd innofensive fruity floral. I'm also fond of La Petite Robe Noire and O Oui de Lancome, sometimes I just find myself in the mood for them.

SOTD was Premier Figuier which is always fantastic in the sunshine!

MyrtleDove · 17/05/2014 17:51

canny Crabtree & Evelyn do a Wisteria scent, couldn't say whether it's realistic but should be easy to test!

I too really love samples now - tbh I like having a range of fragrances to choose from rather than wearing the same every day.

Yesterday wore Fleur Oriental for a job interview to give me some confidence - it went well so hopefully it did the job!

Might do a Nose diagnostic again using Guerlain Acqua Allegorias so I get some fresh, light samples for summer.

MyrtleDove · 18/05/2014 11:45

SOTD - L'Eau d'Ambre Extreme by L'Artisan Perfumeur. It's definitely extreme - very smokey. It's nice though, warm smokey vanilla, kind of like Shalimar but without the sharp bergamot/vetiver intro, and a more natural woodsmoke sort of smokiness rather than incensey. There's also a herbal, almost medicinal note in there somewhere which adds to the bonfire feel. Would be a lovely autumn scent.

canny1234 · 18/05/2014 16:37

Jour d'hermes is SOTD today. It smells lovely for the first couple of minutes and several hours later. The heart notes are a synthetic candied lemon- not nice at all.Luckily it was a free sample from Alla Violetta.
I bought perfumes from Tk Maxx yesterday.Les Notes de Lanvin - the Rose Oud and the Vetiver. The Rose Oud is meant to be good but the Vetiver gets mixed reviews.Given that I really love Byredos Bal d'afrique am I likely to enjoy this or shall I return it unopened.

cressetmama · 19/05/2014 10:00

Have been trying the samples from 4160 Tuesdays all weekend, but so far I am not sold. I wonder if it's the base juice which makes the middle part a bit meh; I like the first rush and the end parts, and they last overnight, but find myself looking for something I can layer in the middle. Yesterday was The Great Randello, but I ended up bolstering it with a squirt of Eau des Merveilles mid-afternoon. Then I liked it!

Myrtle... I am loving your description of l'Eau d'Ambre Extreme. You inspired SOTD: Chergui.

Interested in what you decide about the Vetiver, Canny. I year for Byredo samples. Everything I read about these scents makes me lustful!

canny1234 · 19/05/2014 10:49

I love all the Byredo scents I've tried so far Cresset.Rose Noir is my favourite Rose so far.Bal d'Afrique is so deliciously spicy and Palermo ( free sample from Alla Violetta is) lovely but fleeting.Perfumistas seem fairly derogatory about the line though (don't know why).
SOTD is Aqua Universalis Forte.I adore Aqua Universalis but this is quite different.Initially the top notes are woody/citrus and the heart is floral.I miss the effervescence of the Universalis but am enjoying the drydown of this.
Science the Diptyque is stunning - thank you!I can smell the headiness of the Wisteria after the initial Jasmine burst.I've been looking for a Wisteria scent and now I've found it.

ScienceRocks · 19/05/2014 11:49

Oh good canny I'm glad you like it. I adored it on the first smell, but when I added another squirt later in the day, it smelt utterly different on me and not very nice. Very odd. Lovely that it has gone to a good home.

Tried two of the MFK samples over the weekend: Aquae universalis and aque vitae. Both are really nice, but don't last long, alas. Wore good old l'eau d'issey to a wedding and it lasted all day.

Pamplemousse rose here today. Perfect in this sunny weather.

ScienceRocks · 19/05/2014 17:46

What is going on?! Sprayed noontide petals this afternoon as the pamplemousse rose had faded, and it smelt AWFUL. I'd liked it before, but this time it was a horrible powdery scent that gave me a headache. Very annoying. I have put some solid perfume from l'occitane on top now I'm home again (cherry princess) which is making things a bit better, but this is the second perfume this has happened to.

wiltingfast · 19/05/2014 21:37

I think the Tauers are extremely distinctive science and perhaps the contrast was just too much for your nose?

Sotd here was elizabeth arden Green Tea. Tart and fresh Grin

Would anyone (in the uk, sorry but postal restrictions) be up for a swap of an almost full, 50ml bottle of Prada Infusion De Fleur D'Oranger? No box. I just can't get on with the opening notes, they smell of petrol to my nose so it's just sitting unloved and unused.

canny1234 · 20/05/2014 11:44

Science are you sure the Pamplemousse Rose had totally gone?Maybe the different perfumes interacted together.
Toomuchtea Alla Violetta or Surrender To Chance do samples or eBay.Alla Violetta send out about 4 extra samples with the order but the postage seems expensive ( the samples are generous and well packaged though).
La Tulipa by Byredo is scent of the day today.I can't comment on it as it has disappeared after a sweaty gym class - will have to respray.
Which Penhaligans scents are worth trying Toomuchtea?

canny1234 · 20/05/2014 11:48

I would Onelittlelady!I can swop for my Miss Dior Eau Fraiche 50 ml.

Arsepaste · 20/05/2014 11:50

Penhaligons Juniper Sling and Vaara are worth a try. I also like Night Scented Stock, and Love Potion No9. Bluebell is also lovely, but they discontinued Lily & Spice, which is a real shame. Quercus is good as well. My husband wears Opus quite often, which is really nice.

OneLittleLady · 20/05/2014 12:12

canny that sounds like a great swap. Pm if you still want it Smile

canny1234 · 20/05/2014 12:15

My Sharini samples have just arrived - nestling in a linen bag surrounded by pink Rose buds - so pretty.
Thank you Arsepaste. Those examples give me a few to start with.

MissBattleaxe · 20/05/2014 12:29

SOTD Eau de Sisley no 1. Lovely bit of Juniper and Grapefruit!

I became interested in niche because the mainstream selection at my local Sephora was a bit samey and because my favorite families (green and oriental) were underrepresented in the sea of fruity florals and gourmand lites...

I know exactly what you mean Frugal. Everything is so sticky and sweet and cakey on the High Street, with a few great exceptions that can still be found.
