Canny, I'd swap your jasmine scent (I adore jasmine). PM me if it hasn't gone yet Smile

A Jo Malone one that lasts?I might try it myself as I adore the scent of Gardenias( used to buy big bunches at the market when I lived in Asia,as they were incredibly cheap).
A perfume event sounds very thrilling.Have you read the spiel for the Perfume Society org?I can't work out whether its a good idea to join or not.
SOTD. is Bal d'Afrique again.I love this and Byredos Rose Noir and am really tempted to get FB but these cost a fortune ( alternatives are the perfume oil or splitting the travel size sprays).

canny1234 · 09/05/2014 10:49

Baby barrister go onto Fragantica and read the reviews. They're mostly pretty good if you like Rose Scents.Bvlgari perfumes are generally given good ratings by Perfumistas. You can still sell minus a spray if you wish.

Science ooh how exciting! I would love to go to one of these. Perhaps I can persuade DH to get me one as a birthday present. It would require some planning as I am the opposite side of the country.

I am very happy as DH has given me an early anniversary present- a bottle of Seville a l'Aube! I'll be wearing it a lot over the summer (if we get one)

babybarrister is it the Rose Essentielle? As Canny says, checking out the reviews on Fragrantica or Basenotes is useful, but really you just need to try it and decide if it's your thing or not. I personally don't worry what others think of my perfume- as long as you don't overdo the spraying, the chances are that most people won't even notice what you're wearing. I myself would prefer to smell like Barbara Cartland any day rather than One Direction or Justin Bieber Grin

CuntBiscuit · 09/05/2014 11:25

Seville a l'aube is a fabulous, fabulous, fabulous perfume, I nearly wore it as my wedding scent. Then I read the book about its making, and decided against it. The author is a massive dickhead, and, as she is someone I used to admire, it was a terrible thing to discover.

MyrtleDove · 09/05/2014 11:32

In Birmingham today for a meeting but will have some time to have a browse - anywhere good for more niche perfumes? Obviously there's the beauty halls in the department stores in the Bullring, and there's Selfridges which I've never been brave enough to go into, and def not in my jeans (it's a very casual meeting!). Somewhere around the Bullring/close to Moor St station would be best.

CuntBiscuit · 09/05/2014 11:38

Selfridges, ironically would be your best bet for slightly more unusual fragrances alongside the department store "norms". I wouldn't worry about your jeans, tbh.

FuzzLightbeard · 09/05/2014 11:40

Cuntbiscuit I decided not to get the book as I heard she doesn't come across very well (to put it mildly!) but yes, the perfume itself is beautiful.

I thought I was being very different, wearing Coco Mademoiselle on my wedding day. Then suddenly it seemed that it was everywhere and everyone's signature. At least I get to smell my happy memories on a regular basis I suppose!

canny1234 · 09/05/2014 11:53

Went to Selfridge's a couple of weeks ago.Try the Tom Ford counter - interesting male assistant who seems really into his job.Lots of Niche Scents to try.You really don't need to dress up.

MyrtleDove · 09/05/2014 11:57

Well if there's a Tom Ford counter, Selfridges it is!

CuntBiscuit · 09/05/2014 12:15

I was so annoyed by the book I even reviewed it on Amazon. I hear - very faintly - that people IN the book are really pissed off with it too. But it is probably one of the best fragrances released in the last couple of years to my nose. Such a shame L'Artisan don't have any stores in the UK any more, their perfume portrait service was one of the best I've ever tried. I wore Safran Troublant to my wedding instead Grin

canny1234 · 09/05/2014 13:25

My Envelope of James Heeley samples have arrived.I'm guilty of ordering 3 of the Vervaine scent because I used up the first sample in a flash.Coccobello is reminiscent of the bay rum sold in my Grandads barber shop - I'm waiting for the Gardenias to appear.Figuier is a delicious green herbal refreshing fig( will have to compare with Philosykos) And Ophelia - a beautiful traditional white flower perfume with a fair amount of Tuberose( will compare with Creed White Flowers).I do love most Heeley perfumes, adore the transparency and airiness of them ( but dislike Iris de Nuit intensely).

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 09/05/2014 23:01

I had a squirt of Sahara Noir this morning, on my way to work via House of Fraser. I liked it a lot more than I did last time I sniffed it - possibly even more than LADDM. I think I will have another sniff this weekend.

ScienceRocks · 10/05/2014 00:06

Myrtle, how did you get on? I'm in brum at the moment too. I live wandering round the bullring and selfridges, in fact the city centre is great all round as far as I'm concerned (used to live here, was sad to leave). Never thought about how to dress for it though.

ScienceRocks · 10/05/2014 00:08

Fuzz, really pleased you loved Seville l'aube (I claim all credit as we swapped samples including that one Wink) but please could someone tell me the associated story? I'm intrigued.

MissBattleaxe · 10/05/2014 11:34

I'm working my way through a pile of 4160 Tuesdays samples at the moment and it's very satisfying. Some are good, soem don't suit me, but all are original and good quality.

How does Sarah McCartney get Sunshine and Pancakes to actually smell like maple syrup in the basenote phase? Also Tokyo Cafe smells a bit like Noontide Petals by Andy Tauer in the first half hour.

Greengardenpixie · 10/05/2014 18:54

so am I!! is sunshine and pancakes nice? I didnt order that one. I like evil max and the sexiest scent. Not to sure about urura tokyo or lady rose lion. I have katie but havent tried it on the skin.

canny1234 · 10/05/2014 20:55

SOTD is Kilians Good Girl Gone Bad.The only bad bit I can smell is a very faint whiff of tobacco initially. After that it comes over as a conventionally pretty floral scent.
I would also like the story about Seville l'aube.Would also like to try the perfume after the intriguing story.

FuzzLightbeard · 10/05/2014 21:02

Science that was just the best swap. Did you find a FB of the Liz Earle? Seville a L'aube was a collaboration between perfume lover & blogger, Denise Beaulieu and perfumer Bertrand Duchafour. It was inspired by a night Denise experienced as a teenager in Seville during Holy Week, she was having a holiday romance with a Spanish boy. Afterwards, she wrote a book ('The Perfume Lover') about the experience, in which she comes across as a complete tit Grin

I too have a load of 4160 Tuesdays samples, I have to say I've never come across a perfume house before which has so many hits for me. It's a bit like listening to a CD where you just love every single track and want to sing along.

ScienceRocks · 10/05/2014 22:55

Fuzz, I did get a fb of the liz earle! After the trauma of it being discontinued, I spotted one on eBay at lower than retail price on a buy it now! DH said i should sell it on at a vast profit, but I refused!

Thanks for the Seville a l'aube story. She sounds a bit unhinged, judging by the amazon reviews.

canny1234 · 12/05/2014 09:55

SOTD is Aqua Universal is by Kurkdjian.Had to spray myself lavishly as this perfume really doesn't last very long.Anyone in the UK up for a sample swop?.Science - I will send the jasmine in the next couple of days.

cressetmama · 12/05/2014 15:30

I am so tempted by the 4160 Tuesday sample sets, but which set to choose..? SOTD is Cruel Intentions, from the Nose samples which I disliked first time but like better today. Why is our my sense of smell so capricious?
