This space is for anyone who wants to talk about perfumes - ask for recommendations, tell us which scent you are wearing today (=SOTD), list your favorites...

I have a couple of perfumes on my list to buy:

Tom Ford Vertiver the 75 price tag is off putting though
Benefit Eva nice, fresh & oceanic smelling scent for the daytime

FuzzLightbeard · 03/05/2014 11:13

Toomuchtea I have large mini part used bottle of Roger & Gallet's Eau de Gingembre which you can have if you like (probably about 5ml left) It has quite a realistic freshly cut root ginger scent (doesn't last long though) will swap you for Chypre Mousse Wink

MsAspreyDiamonds you might be able to find Grey Vetiver for less on ebay, or you can always get a decant (try joining Facebook UK/EU fragrance groups, there is more than likely someone on there with a bottle or decant)

SOTD is Penhaligons Artemesia, a light and powdery spring floral, which has now gone strangely smokey on me.

canny1234 · 03/05/2014 11:35

Villerosi's Aqua di Colonia today. Its rather disappointing - just smells like aromatherapy massage oil.Went to bed in Magnolia Nobile last night. It smells warm on my skin ( in a similar way to Terre d'Iris).Went found sniffing the Magnolias in the garden and found they really do smell gorgeous when the buds are freshly opened.

MyrtleDove · 03/05/2014 13:47

I do like Roger & Gallet fragrances - the Fleur d'Osmanthus is lovely and relatively long-lasting - but generally they are light fresh fragrances with not that much staying-power. The Fleur de Figieur one lasts a reasonable amount of time though.

Greengardenpixie · 03/05/2014 14:29

well i am wearing the sexiest scent on the planet IMHO by 4160 tuesdays...and mmm....i love it!!!! Going to buy a full bottle of it. Sadly after a few hours, i dont smell it anymore so doesnt have much staying power, which disappoints me. It settles on the skin with a musky peppery vanilla that i love. Have ordered samples of some others and excited to receive them. Then i will make my decision on which one i like the best!

canny1234 · 03/05/2014 19:42

Anyone tried any Sharini perfumes? There's a review today in the Telegraph magazine for Sharini Reve Polynesian perfume. It sounds like my type of perfume( starts with Mandarin and Grapefruit moving onto Gardenia and Rose and ending in Vanilla,Coconut,Sandalwood and Cedarwood).Think I might order the sample selection( along with the Kurkdjian and the Heeley one I've already ordered this week). This is so not developing into a cheap pastime.

canny1234 · 04/05/2014 20:42

Tuesdays Uraras Tokyo Cafe - its so pretty. Its also the only perfume to last on me this week.

thecatfromjapan · 04/05/2014 21:43

Goodness, some of these scents sound utterly delicious.

I like Fleur d'Osmanthus too - it's so bright, and it manages to be simple without being idiotic or banal. I blame the rise of the fruity floral for the latter two negative qualities in modern perfume.

I'm wearing 28 La Pausa today. I'd forgotten how much I love it. How much I love iris in general, really. But 28 La Pausa is kind of my Penelope: I may wander far and long, but this is my loving harbour. I think I must think of it as the kind of woman I'd like to be: restrained, gentle, lovely.

FuzzLightbeard · 04/05/2014 22:09

Canny I've heard of Sharini but not tried them, their perfumes were at a local Victorian Christmas market quite randomly. The sample pack is tempting...actually I find a lot of the handmade etsy perfumes very interesting, Common Brimstone has lots of lovely sounding oils.

Excuse me while I praise Oriza L Legrand yet again- today I'm wearing Relique D'Amour and it is soooo beautiful. Sadly it doesn't project that well or last that long on me, but the scent is heavenly. It really is like the inside of a small stone chapel, old books, incense, remnants of lilies, damp stone and moss...I seriously need to win the lottery so I can buy every bottle in their line. The bottles look gorgeous too.

thecatfromjapan · 04/05/2014 22:21

That's a wonderful name for a perfume, FuzzLightbeard, and a great description.

(Goes off to google more information.)

FuzzLightbeard · 05/05/2014 12:13

Thecat I highly recommended their sample set, it's very reasonable even with shipping and nice big sprays.

SOTD is 4160 Tuesdays The Great Randello, not my favourite of theirs but still very good.

MyrtleDove · 05/05/2014 13:30

How long did it take for your Nose samples to arrive?

canny1234 · 05/05/2014 15:04

The first time it took 5 working days, the second only two.Don't worry, you will soon receive them.SOTD is Kilians Rose Oud.Smells really 'oudy' at first but then settles down to a rich dark red Rose ( always think of a many tentacled oozing glistening Dr Who monster = Oud).Rose is my favourite spring scent when I'm feeling stressed ( rampaging kids).

Greengardenpixie · 05/05/2014 18:24

Acqua di Parmas Iris Nobile - got this as a sample and i must admit i dont like it at all. It reminds me of old lady perfume!! I have aqua decima and its far nicer but its just a cologne to me. Its zesty and lemony and a fresh summer scent.

ScienceRocks · 06/05/2014 09:50

SOTD is Kilian's Imperial Tea. The tea note is unexpectedly strong, and while many on Fragrantica say they can get jasmine tea, for me it is like strong black tea, which I actually quite like. After an hour or so, it has now quietened down into flowering jasmine tea (which to me always smells very different to jasmine tea from leaves) and is very delicate and pretty. I suspect it will soon be gone altogether, which seems to be the way Kilian fragrances go for me: beautiful but short lived.

canny1234 · 06/05/2014 10:04

What do you think of this new website ' The perfume Society'.Someone has mentioned it on the other perfume thread.Seems a bit incomplete to me.I'm also not particularly impressed by the initial sample box.SOTD for the gym is the very light Roger And Gallet Rose spray.

Canny I'm wearing Tokyo's Cafe today. I find it a little too powdery if I'm honest - think I prefer The Sexiest Smell but still have got a couple I haven't tried.

Have been finding the mornings such a rush recently that I don't have time to think about perfume and find myself reaching for ones I know - recently Coromandel featuring a lot.

Am also a bit frustrated by the Spring ones that smell lovely but don't last - En Passant, Eau De Hiver, CB I hate perfume To See a Flower & Apres L'Ondee.

If anyone knows any like these that are slightly longer lasting, I'd love to know.

MyrtleDove · 06/05/2014 12:01

I got my Nose samples today - scented with Dr Vranjes Firenze's Oud Nobile (sadly just a home diffuser fragrance as it smells wonderful). I just looked it up to check out the notes and it costs €95 for 500ml or €425 for 2.5ltr Shock Shock Shock and I really want some

Along with my ordered samples I seem to have got some bonus ones! I ordered:

Miller Harris, Fleur Oriental
Etat Libre d'Orange, Divin Enfant
Kilian, Sweet Redemption
Odin, 11 Semma
Odin, 03 Century

I also received:
Atelier Cologne, Vanille Insensée
L'Artisan Parfumeur, L'Eau d'Ambre Extreme

I don't know what to try first!

canny1234 · 06/05/2014 12:14

Stokey I love modern day powdery scents With Violet,Rose and Iris nuances but totally dislike incense type scents and sweet Vanilla.Sexiest Scent smelt horrible on me and my newly received Kurkdjian Absolute Pour Le Soir also has a really warm cinammon/woody/incense accord.I really don't like it but can appreciate its well blended.Love the peppery citrus of Aqua Vitae but its so ephemeral. If only it lasted.

MyrtleDove · 06/05/2014 12:52

Oh and given how lovely Oud Nobile is, can anyone recommend a good oud perfume? I'm really fond of woody perfumes at the moment.

MissBattleaxe · 06/05/2014 13:41

Hi Stokey, did my samples arrive?

MyrtleDove · 06/05/2014 13:54

Have Odin, 03 Century on. It's quite nice - I like the mint note amongst the smoky woods - but very simple. I quite like the simplicity though, it's like walking through a forest and smelling a bonfire.

I think that sample leaked though, and it has been difficult to get much perfume out of it which is a shame - and not much left in the bottle :(

Stokey · 06/05/2014 13:57

Yes they did - Sorry MissB Thanks

Haven't a chance to try them yet and still on a hunt for the Santal - it wasn't behind my chest of drawers Confused. Will send if it ever turns up - think I put it somewhere "safe"

FuzzLightbeard · 06/05/2014 14:03

Stokey have you tried Tindrer by Magnetic Scent? It's very green and springlike but decent lasting power.

MyrtleDove I haven't tried any Oudy ones so can't be much help with you there.

SOTD is MFK Lumiere Noire, love the rosy opening but find it rather fleeting.
