This space is for anyone who wants to talk about perfumes - ask for recommendations, tell us which scent you are wearing today (=SOTD), list your favorites...

New Nu is nothing like the original, YSL is the worst at looking out for their perfume heritage! Aesop Marrakech oil is very like "old" Nu. At least to my nose, but they're reformulating that, too. Damn their eyes.

canny1234 · 30/04/2014 19:14

Has anyone got Frugals e mail address or home address?I have promised to send some samples and due to my name change I can't access my original account. If so can you pm me please?

FuzzLightbeard · 30/04/2014 20:18

Canny that's great if the MFK samples are free shipping, I will add them to my list! I don't have Frugals details but hopefully someone will be along soon who can help.

This morning I tried Sexual Healing by Mark Buxton and felt very 'meh' about it, I was also sent Devil in Disguise which was better but still didn't do it for me. Anyone else been sent these by Nose?

Now mellowing out in Oriza L Legrand's Déjà le Printemps, another beauty from this house. Very green and plantlike but with a slightly darker underbelly.

Hello and welcome Toomuchtea! I tried Chypre Mousse this week and loved it, but I can see how it can be a bit of a marmite perfume. It reminds me of Treebeard from Lord of the Rings. The scent of an Ent Grin

I found it very forest floor-like- leaf mould and mulch, pine needles and fungi, which I suppose could come across as old attic. I have no idea why I love it so much as on paper it just sounds odd!

I've not tried Relique d'Amour yet, but I have the sample pack so will give it a good sniff soon.

SOTD is Datura Blanche by Keiko Mercheri, which is very nice but also very close to Hypnotic Poison.

MyrtleDove · 01/05/2014 13:58

SOY (Scent Of Yesterday) which is still clinging to me - Jicky by Guerlain. A really unusual and interesting scent, and can see why it's a bit of an acquired taste but I loved it instantly. It's interesting but not a stinkbomb, which makes a change for me! No Guerlain counter where I live anymore thanks to our HoF closing down, so took advantage of beauty hall filled Milton Keynes yesterday.

canny1234 · 01/05/2014 14:36

Acqua di Parmas Iris Nobile today. Its OK but not wonderful.Much prefer Miller Harris's Terre d'Iris.I'm really intrigued by these Oriza scents. They seem to have such an extensive list of notes compared to most modern perfumes. Are they all retro in feel?Love the description and scent of an Ent.

BridgeMix · 01/05/2014 15:17

canny, is Iris Nobile quite sweet? It's on my to try list - I've got Iris Poudre on today (or I did, I've washed it off - not good on me at all!)

OneLittleLady · 01/05/2014 17:19

Bought Love in Paris - Nina Ricci today for the bargain price of £3.50 for 50mls in my local HoF outlet. they had one bottle left and aren't getting anymore so it was dirt cheap

ScienceRocks · 01/05/2014 20:27

Onelittlelady, what a bargain!

Canny, sorry that the iris nobile sublime isn't your thing. It didn't suit me either! It must be right for someone, somewhere!

Sotd for me was Francis K (sorry, can't remember his surname) lumiere noir femme. This was one of my nose samples, and I really like it. In fact, I may have ordered some fk samples as recommended on this thread, but shhh, don't tell anyone.

I have also bought some Jo Malone gardenia and some kilian samples on eBay (two of the newer Asian fragrances). I need to cut up my cards!

Mine is just what I'm wearing. I'm trying to sample as much as possible at the moment so it keeps changing!

SimplyDarling · 01/05/2014 23:31

Good evening... GAH. Just posted in S&B asking for fragrance advice and then found this thread below it! That will teach me. :(

To recap - I like Calvin Klein Euphoria, Jimmy Choo (original one), Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche and Bulgari Omnia. Would any of you lovely people have recommendations?

MyrtleDove · 01/05/2014 23:50

Hypnotic Poison, YSL Cinema, Thierry Mugler Alien, D&G The One according to Fragrantica!

MyrtleDove · 01/05/2014 23:51

Also maybe Bulgari Omnia Coral?

SimplyDarling · 02/05/2014 09:00

THANK YOU - heading to John Lewis :)

canny1234 · 02/05/2014 10:20

SOTD is Acqua Universal is by Kurkdjian( it is really difficult to remember the spelling). This is definitely my favourite white floral - love love it!Just need to be able to afford it.Have discovered an Acqua di Parma scent I like - Magnolia Nobile( most of them smell like cheap generic men's aftershave on me).Bridgemix Iris Nobile is dry and powdery, not sweet at all.Toomuchtea that doesn't sound so good!Well done One.

FuzzLightbeard · 02/05/2014 10:25

SimplyDarling you might also like Hermes Ambre des Merveilles or Armani Si, I wish I was going sniffing today as well (instead I'm procrastinating about the housework)

SOTD is 4160 Tuesdays Urara's Tokyo Cafe- ooh it's gorgeous.

ScienceRocks · 02/05/2014 10:32

Kilian Water Calligraphy for me today. Gorgeous. I have only sniffed two Kilians (the other being Love and Tears) and both are beautiful, but fade very quickly. I wonder if the samples I have coming (Imperial Tea and Sacred Wood) will be the same.

The Body Shop's Ananya (I know, I'm obsessed Grin) stays on for ages. When I put it on at night, I can still smell it the next morning and even later into the day. You clearly don't pay for longevity!

Simply, have fun sniffing! Toomuch, hope the smell of charity shops is fading!

OneLittleLady · 02/05/2014 10:53

SOTD -the newly purchased Love in Paris by Nina Ricci. Floral and slightly musky in the background. Roses and peony with some ever so slightly dirty musk in the in the background. Sure I detect a little anise as well but it's quite faint. Apparently this has been discontinued so it's a lucky bargain buy

MissBattleaxe · 02/05/2014 16:20

SOTD Tauer Eau D'Epices. It's like a floral/citrus version of LADDM. Gorgeous and 15 hours longevity.

MyrtleDove · 02/05/2014 19:44

SOTD Roger & Gallet Gingembre Rouge. Simple and fruity but quite woody too, and the dry spiciness of the ginger makes it much more interesting and not too sweet at all. Much softer in terms of sillage than I usually go for but very pretty.
