This space is for anyone who wants to talk about perfumes - ask for recommendations, tell us which scent you are wearing today (=SOTD), list your favorites...

I really want to order my Nose samples, but still have around five or six samples here I haven't yet tried so will resist for now. I'll need a bigger box soon to keep them all in!

SOTD is Coze by Parfumerie Generale, smoky and spicy patchouli with a bit of chocolate in the background. Gorgeous but has similarities to Coromandel, which I think I prefer.

teta · 11/04/2014 22:54

Thank You Stokey - I have your samples.I really like the fleur de citronnier! The tauer is interesting ( but a bit of a gasper).

wiltingfast · 12/04/2014 16:01

Ooo which tauer is it teta?

Sotd coromandel, mmmmmm.

teta · 12/04/2014 17:18

Rose Chypree Wilting.I had a perfume buying day yesterday.Bronze Goddess and Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune.Having stated in the past that all Guerlains smell horrible on me - all of this range smell divine and I think I've fallen in love.Where is everyone?Frugal - I'm missing your insightful commentary and we need you to keep the thread running( cos you're the glue).

FuzzLightbeard · 12/04/2014 20:46

I've been wearing Reverie au Jardin today, lighter than the other Tauers (but still pretty strong!) normally I find lavender quite 'cold' but this one is warm and comforting.

FuzzLightbeard · 14/04/2014 12:11

Trying a sample of Malle's Eau d'Hiver today and this may be perfumista heresy saying this but I'm not impressed. I know it's supposed to be sheer and light but it really is barely there... I actually get a similar lightness from Yardley's Iris, which I can spray with abandon as it only cost me a fiver!

wiltingfast · 14/04/2014 13:09

oh Fuzz I didn't like it either. It was way too almondy on me and while light, very kind of high and persistent. Think I passed my sample onto somebody on this thread who loved it...

cosikitty · 14/04/2014 14:44

Tried two new ones yesterday, Jour d'Hermes Absolu and Cartier La Panthere. The first one I tried on my wrist, it was so much more intense than the original Jour and I really liked it, as the original just didn't cut it for me. It is similar in the notes and still has, probably even more, grapefruit, but good lasting power. I also had a paper tester of the new Cartier, this is OK, not amazed by it TBH, didn't get as much leather as I was hoping for and although it is nice and classy smelling I was a bit disappointed.

Stokey · 14/04/2014 14:47

Teta am glad you got your samples. I received yours too Thanks

Haven't been posting on here much as am having a bit of perfume digestion after buying too many mples at once.
I want to love Eau de Hiver but it is a bit insipid with no lasting power. It was in my spring sample set from Surrender to Chance along with Apres L'Ondee and CB I hate Perfume To see a Flower, both of which I prefer.

wiltingfast · 14/04/2014 17:58

sotd here is still coromandel, at this rate am going to fly through my 15ml decant Blush plus my ds was very insistent asking what the "smell" was at breakfast this morning, better wear something gentler tomorrow!

What's Apres L'Ondee like Stokey? I'll have to go back to StC to get a pile of guerlain samples, impossible to find elsewhere...

FuzzLightbeard · 15/04/2014 09:11

Glad to see I'm not the only one not keen on Eau d'Hiver! I struggle with smelling Iris notes to be honest, all I tend to get is a vague powdery-papery smell.

Wilting I often see very good prices for Coromandel decants in the Fragrance sales/splits EU group on FB, might be worth looking on there when you run out.

SOTD is Une Rose Chypree, absolutely beautiful. Tauers obviously do it for me. If I win the lottery, the first thing I'll do is buy a FB of every single Tauer Grin

canny1234 · 15/04/2014 10:48

Went to bed wearing Byredo Rose Noir.I find this scent comforting and warming especially at night.I was missing my youngest who normally climbs into bed with me in the middle of the night ( but is with his grandparents).Wore Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune yesterday. It does veer at times from refreshing grapefruit into cats pee/gooseberry territory at times but I like that.
Tauers Une Rose Chypree doesn't smell of rose at all on me.I just get a very strong synthetic smell.Isn't it lovely though that perfumes can smell so different on everyone.I really want to try more Byredo perfumes - has anyone tried Tulipe,Flower head or Inflorescence?Am I the only one on this thread that hasn't tried Coromandel?
In case anyone is wondering I am a regular who's name-changed as the Mumsnet Password change link wasn't working at all.

ScienceRocks · 15/04/2014 11:16

I haven't tried coromandel either canny, but I think I need to. I also want to try carnal flower.

My other nose samples haven't been as good as kilian water calligraphy. I have tried heeley hippie rose and acqua di Parma iris nobile sublime. The heeley smelt only of patchouli on me, which I don't really like, then faded into nothing after about an hour. The iris nobile sublime had that powdery smell I have been associating with violets but I now think could be iris. I still have costume international's so nude and diptyque's olene to try from my nose samples.

Someone mentioned byredo. I have a sample of bal d'afrique I could swap if you want?

canny1234 · 15/04/2014 17:56

I would love to try that Science. What sort of smells do you like?

ScienceRocks · 15/04/2014 18:25

PM me, canny, and we can discuss!

FuzzLightbeard · 16/04/2014 12:10

SOTD is Angel Pivoine, a slightly lighter take but definitely still Angel. Must go before my DC kill each other and destroy the contents of the living room. Goodness knows what the summer holidays will be like!

canny1234 · 16/04/2014 12:19

SOTD yesterday was Pradas infusion d'Iris eau de toilette.I love its cool powdery scent.Today I'm sick with a really sore throat and bunged up nose so no perfume yet.

ScienceRocks · 16/04/2014 13:46

Body Shop Ananya today!

ArsePaste · 16/04/2014 15:28

Guerlain Aqua Allegorica Herba Fresca today, coupled with a minty (french!) deodorant. I smell like a field of herbs, it's lovely.

ScienceRocks · 16/04/2014 15:41

That sounds lovely arsepaste (lovely name, btw). I have just discovered that Liz Earle Botanical Essence 100 has been discontinued Sad Ah well, better to have sniffed, loved and list, than never to have sniffed such glory at all...

canny1234 · 16/04/2014 15:46

Arsepaste I'm jealous - I really want to try it ( love Pamplune) and adore minty scents. But I've already bought 3 bottles of perfume this week( memo to self - must stop).Science have pm you.

ArsePaste · 16/04/2014 15:55

Botanical Essence was limited edition though, I think. I never liked it, anyway, much prefer the first one, tbh.

Herba Fresca is one of my all-time favourite fragrances. Yes, it's light (and if you don't like mint, you're buggered), but it's so different and gorgeous. I love Pamplune too. Sweaty, sulphurous grapefruit, what's not to like?

canny1234 · 16/04/2014 16:21

Have pm ed you Second time Science.Let's see whether you get this one!

canny1234 · 16/04/2014 20:39

Heeley Verveine d'Eugene is SOTD today - all my favourite elements verbena, blackcurrant and musk with extra rhubarb on the side.

ArsePaste · 17/04/2014 09:03

Today I'm wearing Calandre by Paco Rabanne, a gorgeous classically beautiful aldehydic floral with an interesting kind of "metallic" tone at first.
