This space is for anyone who wants to talk about perfumes - ask for recommendations, tell us which scent you are wearing today (=SOTD), list your favorites...

SOTD is So Nude by Costume International. It's barely there, which I kind of wonder is the point? What is there is pleasant enough, flowery and quite pretty.

ScienceRocks · 17/04/2014 11:54

Well, this is novel, a perfume that appears to be getting stronger as the day progresses!

Greengardenpixie · 17/04/2014 12:02

Would love a new perfume but just dont know what is out there now. My favourite all time perfume was l'feu dissey [sp] by issey miyake
but they discontinued it and its extremely rare..in both the light and normal orange bottle. I love sweet smells with base notes of patchouli, musk and peppery smells i find angel and chocolatey scents too sweet and sickly. Any recommendations?

Greengardenpixie · 17/04/2014 12:03

..i cant stand the other issey miyake. They are everything i hate in a perfume. Strange i know!

Greengardenpixie · 17/04/2014 12:41

Just bought Calvin Klein endless euphoria...we will see if it is!

thecatfromjapan · 17/04/2014 13:27

I really hope I'm not dropping into a thread that is really for friends. Smile

Hello Greengarden. I've never smelled "Le Feu", so I looked it up on "Fragrantica": it sounds amazing! Like a wonderful, tea-less chai, or an exotic, oriental drink from the spice route, given to adored children, and at feasts.

Having absolutely no idea at all what it smells like, I can't advise you at all. The "Fragrantica" website suggests a few perfumes (the new "Artisan Perfumeurs" fragrance is one of them, and it does sound promising on paper, but I've sniffed it and it's not that exciting-seeming, to be honest).

I wonder if you like exotic, intriguing, milkiness and skin-scents? PErhaps you'd like "Safran Troublant" (another "Artisan") or the Serge Lutens "Jeux de Peaux" (which has a bit of toastiness in it, as well as being a little unsettling - in a good way).

I haven't a clue, really, but "Le Feu" sounds amazing. What do you think it smelled like? And what did you like most about it?

And I hope I'm not dropping in, or intruding but canny1234 your Heeley perfume with rhubarb sounds lovely. I'm a bit scared of musk but you make the perfume as a whole sound really appealing.

FuzzLightbeard · 17/04/2014 13:31

Science how strange! I also hate 'barely there' perfumes, I prefer 'smack you round the face' ones Grin

Greengardenpixie according to reviews on Fragrantica, le Feu D'Issey is comparable to L'Artisan Parfumeur's Amour Nocturne, Etra by Etro and a couple of other niche offerings. I have a mini of le feu d'Issey light and it is one of those very unique scents that is hard to describe, both warm and cold at the same time...

SOTD is Straight to Heaven by Kilian, VERY boozy. Good job I have no plans to go out in public today.

FuzzLightbeard · 17/04/2014 13:34

Crossed posts with thecatfromjapan! Oh and I think I can speak for us all that anyone and everyone is welcome here Smile

Greengardenpixie · 17/04/2014 13:38

Thank you so much for the recommendations. I will get my perfume and smell it when i get a chance and describe it to you. I have the tiniest drop of the one in the orange bottle. I also have quite a lot of the light one left as my dh managed to get a hold of it. I dont think either are produced now :( I love both. The light one smells even more beautiful when its faded on a scarf or on clothes. I will follow up the perfumes you have mentioned. Glad i joined this thread!

Greengardenpixie · 17/04/2014 15:42

Oh my...the l'artisan one is £135!!! Just a little pricey for me. Pity they dont do a sample :(

canny1234 · 17/04/2014 18:55

Green garden pixie you can usually obtain decants of expensive perfumes somewhere - this makes them affordable.Thecatfromjapan everyone is welcome here. The only requirement is that you have to love perfume - you don't have to know much about it though( I'm a relative new-bie).However you seem very knowledgeable.
Wore in bed Tuesdays Tokyo Cafe as was craving something comforting and pretty.SOTD is Yves Saint Laurent 'In Love Again' - similar notes to the Heeleys - the vintage version YSL.

FuzzLightbeard · 17/04/2014 19:37

The newer L'Artisans are a lot more expensive than the older ones, I've only tried Deliria from the new range and wasn't that keen to be honest. You can get samples here- fragrancesandart.com

Also good for decants- flacon.ambaric.net

If you like the sound of the chai tea smell as thecat suggested, you could try Untitled #2 by Magnetic Scent. I really love it, it's gourmand but not overly sweet and light enough for spring and summer. You can get a sample from Bloom Perfumery for £2 including p&p.

I'm now wearing Lutece by Houbigant, gorgeous retro, vintagey powderiness (my powers of description sadly lacking this evening!)

Hawkshaw · 17/04/2014 20:42

Where did you get Lutece from? I used to love that.

FuzzLightbeard · 17/04/2014 21:13

Hi Hawkshaw it was an ebay bargain a year or so ago, I think it was only 99p!

Hawkshaw · 17/04/2014 21:42

Wow. Well done you! I will look out for some, just in case. It's good stuff, isn't it? I love the powdery rosy warmth of it.

FuzzLightbeard · 18/04/2014 08:36

Yes it's gorgeous, a forgotten gem I think! I really love powdery scents with a retro make-up/ lipstick vibe. The strength and lasting power are great too. Save a search in ebay and you might get lucky!

ScienceRocks · 18/04/2014 15:06

Yay! Have bought a bottle of liz Earle botanicals no 100 on eBay! Ended up loving so nude yesterday, once I got over the fact that it bizarrely got stronger as the day progressed, peaking six hours after application.

Just sprayed olene by diptyque. Blimey, the jasmine is strong! Will see how it develops during the day.

canny1234 · 18/04/2014 21:23

I used to wear Lutece as well - but I can't remember how it smelt on me.Well done Science for getting the perfume you wanted.Tried L'Ombre Dan's l'eau on and immediately washed it off as it smells disgusting - I suspect it might be off as I get absolutely no rose smell,so wore En passant instead. This is beginning to grow on me as long as my brain works out this is not yeasty nappy bags( dc's nappy sacs were lilac scented in Asia).

canny1234 · 18/04/2014 21:24

Flipping heck, don't know what's happened to the letters there!

cosikitty · 19/04/2014 19:38

Loving the discussions. I'm with you Fuzz, I love making a statement with my perfume, even if those around don't ecessarily appreciate it Grin

SOTW (scent of the week) has been Estee's Private Collection. Been out in the garden all week catching up on jobs and this has been perfect with the sunny but but fresh weather and gone really well with grass cuttings and dandelion removal.

canny1234 · 19/04/2014 21:48

SOTD is Pradas Infusion D'Iris.Needed a well behaved unobtrusive perfume today as had lots of jobs to do.I would love to have done some gardening this week but have done trips out every day as dh has been working from home.Cosikitty I'm envious - my grass is sky-high.I must try Private Collection.

ScienceRocks · 19/04/2014 22:59

Love and tears by kilian for me today. Lasted much longer than my first try, but has faded now so am wearing body shop ananya to bed because it smells so damn cosy!

Do people on here have views on scented candles? I'm not a huge fan, mainly because the ones that smell nice in shops never seem to smell as they burn and the ones that smell nice as they burn are a bit of a surprise because they won't have smelt of anything when unlit! But I needed a boost today so lit a Yankee candle I bought online on a whim and the kitchen was filled with the most delightful jasmine aroma within minutes! I snuffed it out pretty quickly when I realised it clashed with the hot cross buns I was making, but it was a lovely surprise.

Cahu5 · 20/04/2014 16:41

Hi, I hope you don't mind me posting, just wanting to pick your brains. I have fallen in love with Creeds Love in White but it's very £££££. Do you know of anything similar. I also love Light Blue, Bright Crystal, the Philosophy scents as well as Chloe and Chanel no5. TIA

cosikitty · 20/04/2014 17:18

Trying Good Girl Gone Bad by Kilian. For the most part this is a pleasant enough, sweetish floral. I occasionally kept getting a little sweaty note in the first hour or so, but after that it dried into a faint dusky rose and white flowers. not that special to my nose, not bad though.

cosikitty · 20/04/2014 17:20

You could try looking for Love in White on All Beauty website, not sure if they have it but they have some creeds at quite good prices.
