This space is for anyone who wants to talk about perfumes - ask for recommendations, tell us which scent you are wearing today (=SOTD), list your favorites...

Wearing Maison Francis Kurkdjan's Aqua Universalis Forte today - love this stuff.

FuzzLightbeard · 08/04/2014 13:12

Wilting the Tauer samples arrived today, thank you! If you haven't received your package yet, I do hope it arrives soon.

SOTD is PG Jardins de Kerylos, green fig leaves and unripe peach, love it.

wiltingfast · 08/04/2014 13:21

Excellent Fuzz, I hope you enjoy them Smile, yours also arrived, very generous selection!

Thank you so much, am currently wafting about in chamade Grin

FuzzLightbeard · 08/04/2014 14:31

Great news Wilting, hope you like the others as well! (and remember to go easy on the Tea Rose trigger Wink )

ScienceRocks · 08/04/2014 17:12

My nose samples have arrived - yay!

None of the sprays work so I can't smell them - boo.

teta · 08/04/2014 18:51

Its annoying when that happens.A couple of mine have been faulty.I just pulled off the top n dabbed( but lost all the Killian Rose Oud).Violetta have much better quality spray vials than Nose.SOTD is Byredo Rose Noir again - warm toasty rose( in need of comforting as am feeling utterly miserable today(hormonal and have eaten way too much of the dc's white chocolate))

ScienceRocks · 08/04/2014 19:22

Teta I have tried dismantling but to no avail. Because they are all malfunctioning, I have emailed to see what they can advise. At the moment, the scents are just sitting there, taunting me...

I wore Hermes Osmanthe (think I have spelt that correctly) today, but it really doesn't last so a couple of hours later I tried Fragonard's Santal when I was in M&S. Nice, but not as nice as I'd hoped. I also tried Florentyna White Flowers, but it was too sweet. My DDs loved Crabtree & Evelyn Rosewater and experimented with layering it over lavender to see how it changed Smile

LillianGish · 08/04/2014 19:38

I love the Lyn Harris ones in M&S - esp the cologne and the poudre. They were all half price last time I went in so great value too.

Stokey · 09/04/2014 14:12

Has anyone heard of Boadicea perfumes? I was in Fenwicks at lunch time and saw these gorgeous bottles but eye-wateringly expensive. I tried Divine, bit too much violet for me, quite glad I didn't fall in love!

Another one I hadn't heard of was Mark Buxton. It's a little masculine but the vanilla pulls it back.

thecatfromjapan · 09/04/2014 14:20

Have you noticed that all the names of the boadicea perfumes are abstract nouns other than 'adventuress' ?
Am on 'phone but will google with curiosity later.

wiltingfast · 09/04/2014 16:59

SOTD Serge Lutens Arabie thank you Frugal! Alas I smell like a curry. Very very foodie to my nose. Sweet spicey but not in a good way, for me at least Grin If I smell closely I can only really discern cloves and dried fruit, the rest is just savoury curryish sweetish smell.

Science are you sure they are malfunctioning? I thought one of mine was but I just had to press it really really hard and eventually it sprayed. They are a bit fiddly but it is nice to get sprays instead of those dabby bottles. Not keen on the new Nose recommendations and haven't ordered any more yet anyway. Did anyone else get more?

FuzzLightbeard · 09/04/2014 16:59

I've seen the Boadicea ones pop up on Fragrantica but not tried any, love the bottles!

SOTD is Tauer's Carillon Pour Un Ange courtesy of Wilting. Very strong stuff, love the opening and middle but not sure about the later stages. I like it but it has a bit of laundry musk type smell to me, like I've overdone the fabric softener.

thecatfromjapan · 09/04/2014 17:05

Sorry if my interpolation about "Adventuress" sounded rude - it wasn't meant to. I'm a bit jealous you were in Fenwicks trying perfume, Stokey, and am longing to be doing some of that myself.

Does anyone know if there is a UK seller of "The Different Company"? I have a horrible feeling that there isn't, and I have finally become overwhelmingly curious about the line. I would like to spend some time in a shop sniffing them. But this may not be possible.

ScienceRocks · 09/04/2014 17:43

Jo Malone black cedarwood and juniper today (from the London Rain series). I didn't expect to like it, so was pleasantly surprised at how nice it is. It has also lasted extremely well for a JM scent, put it on at about 9am and it is still evident. Would suit men as well as women, I reckon.

No word from Nose about my unsprayable and inaccessibly samples. Has anyone got any ideas how I can get into them? The tops don't appear to unscrew (though they look as though they should), and when I take the spray top off, nothing comes out. Very frustrating, and it has put me off using them again or recommending them :-( Such a shame, as the descriptions of the scents they recommended for me sounded luscious.

teta · 09/04/2014 19:41

Science they don't seem to unscrew but they can be pulled out(however you can potentially lose the whole vial doing this).Grip the base of the top(below the spray) and pull gently. This has worked on three of mine.I damaged them by trying to work the spray with greasy hands ( hand cream on).If you try to depress them at an angle the thread seems to break.I put through a second order with Nose and am quite happy with the service.

teta · 09/04/2014 19:47

Couldn't get it right today.Sprayed on Good girl gone bad in the morning - it smelt of cigarettes and off( it was freezing here ) - Smells lovely on a summers day
Miller Harris Terre de Iris this afternoon. Then the sun came out and it really warmed up and the Terre de iris smelt all wrong - too matronly and warm.

ScienceRocks · 09/04/2014 20:03

I've had a reply!

To use the spray, you have to prime the pump.
If you don't succeed in doing it, you can directly open the samples, they aren't mend.

I wish you a beautiful olfactive discovery,

Margot from the Nose team

Not sure I'm any clearer...

Teta, thanks for the advice, I'll give them all a go! Sorry you had a frustrating fragrance day, I hate it when that happens, leaves me feeling all confuddled.

ScienceRocks · 09/04/2014 22:34

Aha, got into one! Noix de tuberuse by miller Harris. Rather indulgent to wear to bed, and doesn't smell appropriate for night time. Will try again tomorrow...

FuzzLightbeard · 10/04/2014 11:33

Science good luck with the rest of your samples. You have more patience than me, I would probably have had the pliers out!

SOTD is Tom Ford Jonquille de Nuit, lovely yellow sunny daffodils and springlike mimosa to me. I can't help thinking this is rather overpriced for what it is though, it's lovely but not interesting.

ScienceRocks · 10/04/2014 14:25

SOTD is Francis Kurkdjian Lumiere Noire Femme, from my Nose samples. Not one of the recommendations, but I really like it. I've looked on Fragrantica, and apparently this is rose, patchouli and daffodil. On me, it is warm and flowery, with a slight spiciness, but very clean and elegant. I really like it, but don't adore it. Maybe it is too grown up, classic and polite for me?

ScienceRocks · 10/04/2014 14:27

Really didn't like the MH Noix de Tubereuse last night, by the way. Something in it got me - violet, perhaps? It smelt powedery and not terribly pleasant. I will try it again during the day, but with trepidation.

teta · 10/04/2014 20:54

I'm not keen on the M.H. Tuberose either - too OTT for me.I have had a lovely day in Selfridge's smelling lots of different perfumes.Tried lots of Tom Fords and Creeds,Jo Malone's ( really insipid) and ended up buying Pradas Infusion d' Iris. Also found Pradas Ambre in Tk Maxx but resisted buying as it smelt like vanilla and honey on me ( not keen on gourmand fragrances).

MrsCocoa · 10/04/2014 22:12

SotD is Agarwoud by Heeley. First of my Nose samples. Didn't like it for the first 30 mins (a burning synthetic note in the opening) but now that's gone its lovely: a very gentle and warm rose/amber that stays close to the skin - almost soapy. Manages to be comforting and up-lifting.

The Nose vials are tricky aren't they? Thought mine was broken too, but after a lot of pumping it sprang into life.

Really like the concept. Thrilling to receive the seven vials. And spent many happy loading permutations into their diagnostic which was great entertainment too. In fact if anyone knows how to get more satisfaction and pleasure whilst spending only 10 Euros please let me know!

ScienceRocks · 11/04/2014 13:07

Sotd is water calligraphy by kilian from my nose recommendations. It is blinking lovely, a beautiful mixture of aquatic and flowery notes. Lasting quite well too. I may be a little in love.

BridgeMix · 11/04/2014 13:28

Today I'm wearing Citizen Queen and I LOVE it!
