Lovely thread!

I am after a new scent as my beloved Michael by Michael Kors has come to an end and after a twelve year love affair I think it's time to move on to newly scented pastures. Due to young children I don't have time to visit perfume counters so I was wondering if any of you beautifully scented people had any suggestions?
For anyone not familiar with Michael this is Strawberrynet's description:

  • Incredibly captures a fresh & radiant experience
  • Top notes: tuberose, freesia, gardenia & white lily
  • Base notes: sandalwood, suede, amber & musk

Thank you!

cosikitty · 04/04/2014 21:20

Hi Tumb, are you looking for something similar to Michael Kors or something different?

FuzzLightbeard · 04/04/2014 21:23

Brilliant, thank you Frugal, I'll let her know. Wish I was going with her as I would love to explore Rome!

I really like Avignon but not sure if I want a FB, others keep pushing it off the FB top spot on my (ridiculously long) wishlist.

Tumbigirl I've not smelt Michael Kors but you can easily join us in the inexpensive (ish) and highly addictive pass time of buying and testing samples from the comfort of your own home. Bloom perfumery has an excellent selection and reasonably priced samples.

I haven't ordered from them yet but many on here have tried Nose.fr with success, you basically complete a profile with three of your favourite scents and they will then make five suggestions, of which you can order samples at 10€ with free delivery (and they chuck in extras! Bargain!)

FrugalFashionista · 05/04/2014 10:03

If she does not find it at the airport, visiting pharmacie / erboristerie oe even natural food stores in town will be the right approach. Not sure they have duty free distribution.

SOTD Shalimar Mexique. Really liking this, Thierry Wasser is a genius.

Oh and Tumbi if you want a tuberose perfume we've got it all from the honeyed and featherlight Tubereuse by Mona di Orio and the sappy green Carnal Flower all the way to the classic, formal Fracas, luscious Beyond Love from Kilian and the heavy-hitting leathery Loretta. Personally I'd go to a good department store or Les Senteurs and ask to try a variety of tuberoses or try a sampler here or here. If you like a proper perfume, mainstream perfume departments can be a bit disappointing. If you'd like the same fragrance family but a different take you could broaden your scope and ask for white florals. If you prefer freesias, a starting pointw would be Ofresia and Antonia's Flowers at Space NK.

Kilians Rose oud is SOTD.Some of the Nose vials are faulty ( my only criticism) and I spilt most of the tiny vial everywhere( though my bedroom now smells lovely).I think I will have to order a bigger decant.

ScienceRocks · 05/04/2014 11:17

Tumbi. it sounds like you like similar scents to me. I ordered a white floral sampler set from the perfumed court and have found it a really good way to identify the notes that I really like. Alternatively, have you looked on fragrantica? You can put in the perfume that you like and it suggests similar fragrances.

Today I am embracing spring by wearing Tuesdays' Tokyo cafe. It's been a few weeks since I wore this and I'm reminded of how much I like it.

FuzzLightbeard · 05/04/2014 20:06

I tried Estée Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia and Amber Ylang Ylang today, both very good.

Now marinating in Liaisons Dangereuses by Kilian, which is very plummy and peachey but pretty sultry and grown up for a fruity perfume.

cosikitty · 05/04/2014 23:34

Do you match your fed grande to your outfits? Wearing Tuscsn leather with high heels, jeans and leather jacket for a glamourous shopping trip followed by cocktails and it suits perfectly.

cosikitty · 05/04/2014 23:38

fed grande??? fragrance!!!

ScienceRocks · 06/04/2014 08:55

Cosi, I definitely match my fragrance to my outfit, the weather or how I want to feel!

cosikitty · 06/04/2014 10:07

No idea how people manage with only ONE bottle of perfume Grin. I need one for every kind of weather, occasion, mood and outfit!

Black Orchid- Christmas parties and busy noisy nights out in winter.
Tuscan Leather- for smart casual but sophisticated occasions and dressing up jeans at the weekend
Chanel Allure-innofensive but not too shy for winter work days
Cristalle eau vert- for hot days in summer
Portrait of a Lady- for glamourous occasions and nights out with DH when I want to feel feminine
Coromandel or Sensuous from Estee fro snuggling in a winter jumper.
Private collection-always feel this goes best with a white shirt for some reason.

cosikitty · 06/04/2014 10:08

Oh, and love wearing tuberose perfumes on summer evenings!

FrugalFashionista · 06/04/2014 10:38

Another day with Shalimar Mexique. Love this, FB worthy for me?

teta · 06/04/2014 11:35

Heeleys Hippie Rose today.I think I prefer Kilians Rose Oud though ( expensive tastes).I also tried the Miller Harris tuberose yesterday - way way OTT for me.Now going through my Rose PhaseGrin.

ScienceRocks · 06/04/2014 21:17

Was feeling a bit down today so reached for ysatis. I may put so e more on to go to bed because I find it so warm and comforting.

coffeeinbed · 06/04/2014 21:22

Tried Tom Ford Oud Fleur.
very similar to YSL Nu or La Fumee.

ScienceRocks · 07/04/2014 10:03

Kiss By The Fireside today, because it is wet and miserable outside. Wearing it the day after Ysatis, I have noticed how similar they are. In fact, Fireside feels like a less sweet, more masculine version of Ysatis, the wood is more pronounced and there is less incense.

FuzzLightbeard · 07/04/2014 10:25

Hideous weather here too Science and it's the first day of Easter holidays. My boys have started bickering already!

SOTD is 1270 by Frapin, sweet, juicy but not sickly pineapple, a bit boozy but I have to put my nose right to my arm to smell it. If it was stronger it would be gorgeous, might spray some in my hair later to see if it wafts a bit more.

teta · 07/04/2014 10:28

Kiss by the fireside smells like Pot pourri on me.I think I would love it as a room scent though.Byredos Rose Noir today which blends in so well with my skin that I can barely smell it after the first few minutes. However the Dc's have said they can definitely smell it on me still.I do really love this scent - I find it a warm rose and it seems to last.Frugal one of the vials you sent me was unlabelled. The vial is a pale straw colour and smells like a warm jasmine.Have you any idea of the perfume?( a Violetta ).Thank you!
I have also fallen in love with Philosykos. It reminds me of Virgin Island Water - but a more subtle version.I would wear this all year round on days when i want a fresh cool relatively well behaved perfume.Ninfeo Mio smelt 'off' on me but Philosykos smells adorable on.

Stokey · 07/04/2014 10:46

I like Kiss by the Fireside Teta but it is definitely a winter scent - it just smells of Christmas to me - cloves I think.

SOTD is Frederic Malle's Eau De Hiver. I love this on first spray but it doesn't really last. I find the same with En Passant. So question for today, would you buy an expensive perfume that you love but has terrible longevity?

Teta & MissB - I should get the samples sent out today, crazy week with optician for dd1, dental hospital for me, 2nd birthday for DD2 and a friend's 40th. Am looking at my calendar with relief as nothing on this week!

FrugalFashionista · 07/04/2014 10:50

Teta I have no idea. Did I send you Bulgari Jasmin Noir (manufacturer's sample, not Violetta)? I have a lot of duplicates and keep sending them to people but am not sure any more what I have picked Wink

SOTD Shalimar Mexique...

OP posts:
teta · 07/04/2014 11:30

Stokey don't worry,i only sent yours on Friday.I don't know the answer to that Stokey,as I'm pondering exactly the same.Frugal, yes you sent me the Bulgari Jasmin Noir in the manufacturers vial.I am still planning to send you the Tuesday samples Frugal( though dh is highly puzzled by these sample swops and the fact he has to give me a weeks notice of visiting Milan).

FrugalFashionista · 07/04/2014 17:06

Scored a FB of Shalimar Mexique on eBay.it - hitting my decant way too often... I passed the chance to buy Shalimar Madagascar (which I didn't like quite as much) during the short time it was widely available and cheap and don't want to repeat that mistake with this one Wink

flora haven't seen you for a while but wanted to let you know that the sample you were sending never arrived Sad
