Wilbur, how terrifying! MrsS, good for your DH (!) in trying to sort out the neighbour.

Have sorted some glorious social opportunities for my daughters next week...Envy

bigTillyMint · 15/02/2014 16:47

Wilbur, I saw the pic on FB Shock what a shame.

We are at Luton airport after a traffic jam (bus) and delayed train. The plane is now delayed 3 hoursSad Annoyingly, there is one departing to Geneva in half an hour which is running on timeAngry

QueenQueenie · 15/02/2014 17:59

Just popping in to say have a fab holiday BTM.

NUFC69 · 15/02/2014 18:25

Have a great holiday, BTM. I hope the wait isn't too tedious. I hate airports; I am never interested in shopping, all I want is a quiet seat.

Just back from DGS's birthday lunch. It didn't start well - DH dropped me at the door in the rain and I discovered that they had no record of DD's reservation! Fortunately they could do a table for 11 so we were ok. DGS loved it when they brought out a cake with lit candles, rang a bell and announced his birthday. Everyone joined in singing and DGS, who is shy, positively beamed. Back to DD's house later for tea and cake. Now shattered as the noise level was quite high, but loved it all.

CointreauVersial · 15/02/2014 19:43

Bad luck, BTM. At least it's giving the wind a chance to die down before you get on the plane. Wink

NU - sounds like a lovely party.

Wilbur - how scary. I was flinching every time I heard a thump or a bang during the night, but luckily there was no broken glass here. Our greenhouse (a.k.a storage space for spare pots and bag of compost) is plastic anyway.

Blackduck · 15/02/2014 20:52

Have a great hol BTM!!

Blackduck · 16/02/2014 07:38

Wilbur sorry about your glass - seriously thought that was going to be us Friday night.
Last night was lovely and peaceful in comparison.

BTM hope you got away.
MrsS how terribly sad - hope something gets sorted soon.

beachyhead · 16/02/2014 08:15

Winter has arrived. Very heavy frost here with bright sunshine. Probably the same as what BTM is waking up to.

We had dinner last night at a friend who's electricity has been off since the storm on Friday. It was quite eerie driving there, village after village in darkness. We had the most amazing supper cooked over a camping stove and ate surrounded by candles. It was lovely.

Blackduck · 16/02/2014 09:07

Frosty here too, but clear blue sky :)

Ooh, where are you headed Rudy? If you see dh, ds1 and ddog on your travels give them a wave and tell them I miss them!

herbaceous · 16/02/2014 12:03

Just got in from first c25K week3 run, involving the daunting 'running for three minutes'. Twice. But I did it! And it wasn't too bad! Though once again I engineered the route so the long running bits were downhill or flat. And I did feel as if my lungs were going to collapse.

Knees hurt a bit less, now, which puts me in a quandary. My shoes have a 30-day guarantee, which runs out in three days' time. So, if it's the shoes causing my knees to hurt, I can change them. But I'm not sure it is the shoes. And I do like them so! They've got neon orange on!

NUFC69 · 16/02/2014 12:32

Lovely day up here, too. DH is outside tidying up the garden; I did go out briefly and pull up some dead leaves (have to show willing! ). After a light lunch we're meeting Dd, her family and ILs to visit an ice cream parlour, so the weather must be better. I really should be tidying/cleaning as I have about 20 people coming tomorrow afternoon for a meeting.

Hope everyone's gardens and houses are ok after the storms. Also hope that the elderly upstairs neighbour is all right (Mrs S, I think). Your DH must be a lovely man.

herbaceous · 16/02/2014 12:39

I'm about to meet DP and DS at the local park, which is TEEMING with children, as it's the first sunny weekend day for about a decade. Then perhaps some light gardening - I haven't even planted bulbs yet. I wonder if it's still worth doing?

cremolafoam · 16/02/2014 13:02

Shock Wilbur , not your greenhouse too.
Today is the first day I can actually go out and assess the devastation. Greenhouse frame is not too bad but only one pane not smashed. We are going to try for an insurance claim as new panes can be got apparently. Wink

It is a perfect sunny bright day here todaySmile. Mostly I will be gathering bits of pot and glass . I've also got a job application to finish. But not feeling enthusiastic about it.

BTM hope the slopes are powdery and the break does you good!

Herbs, up here our daffodils are one or two inches high, so definitely too late. The snowdrops are flowering, but then so are some roses and at Xmas the penstemons were still blooming! You might be ok with things like anemones. The village churchyard looks amazing at this time of year - first the snowdrops, then crocus: quite stunning.

herbaceous · 16/02/2014 13:54

Our daffs and crocii are all out in force - these are more summer bulbs I'm contemplating.

beachyhead · 16/02/2014 14:21

Crem, try phoning the manufacturer (if you know the make and model) and they will give you the exact measurements. It's always something obscure like 2470mm x 7130mm and it has to be right! Our local greenhouse shop has a 'man who mends'. He fitted my glass and tied mine down to the patio for a small sum, thank god. Honestly, if he hadn't done all the tying down and drilling in, my greenhouse would have been half way across the garden after Friday!

Having a lovely peaceful day here, baking with dd2. Off to visit my dad who starts the conversation 'Well, if you are passing a shop, could you .......' so it's off to Sainsbury's on the way.

Dd1 back tomorrow - can't wait to see her, assuming planes are leaving NY at the moment.

lalsy · 16/02/2014 16:35

Oooh bad luck on glass Wilbur and Crem, and I hope you have a lovely holiday BTM.

I have had a lovely weekend and now slightly dreading half term.

bigTillyMint · 16/02/2014 17:50

Hope ur DD gets back safely beachy and that all greenhouses are mendable!

Epic journey yesterday, ending with 4 hour delay on plane and then very heavy snow on the last leg up to where we are staying. It was like driving in a computer gameShock
So slopes very powdery and mogully today and hard to see contours - not my fav but I skied all morning then after lunch my friend and I walked for a bit before escaping the snow in a cafeWink DC and DHs all skied out! Now off for dinner...

cremolafoam · 16/02/2014 18:30

Beachy you are absolutely right about the panes. Manufacturer long gone ( to the great compost heap of defunct businesses ) so going have to have some of them cut . Dh's allotment mate came up and they stood beside it makingWink faves and puffing about the pros and cons of pvc and clear sealant. Grin Ffs

I have emailed my job application . Not discussing it unless I get an interview. Gawd the guff I wrote is making me Blush. Also declined to put my Dob on the CV for the first time ever. No to crepey discrimination.Wine

MrsSchadenfreude · 16/02/2014 19:27

Good luck with your job app Crem. And fingers crossed for an interview.

DH went to see the woman downstairs about our upstairs neighbour. She has a SS contact for him, and will call them on Monday. She also told DH that the man's wife left him (she is a lot younger than him and this is all quite recent) because she found out that he tried to kill his first wife. Confused Shock

Had DBIL and his other half to stay for the weekend, which was nice. It was DBIL's birthday, and DH splashed out a bit on his present. DBIL asked me what I got for my birthday from DH. Err, nothing. DH said rather defensively "But I took you out to dinner." Well he took DBIL and all of us out to dinner last night for his birthday too!

motherinferior · 16/02/2014 21:41

Kind though your DH is towards the man upstairs I feel he is deeply lacking in the birthday gift department...

Mr Inferior has improved dramatically thanks to serious tantrums on my part since year 1, when all I got was a bottle of champagne and a positive pregnancy testGrinGrin

Blackduck · 16/02/2014 21:56

So the bottle of champagne had to be put on ice MI??? :)

But yes MrsS MI is right - DH is a bit p, well, crap on the birthday pressie front?

Here we have introduced niece to curry (only a korma) having done bento yesterday. I am a bit Shock that she's never had a curry!? But she's a fab girl and my sil has done a fab job :)

motherinferior · 16/02/2014 21:59

I drank it (well, we split it) before the test, BD. Was in Major DenialGrin

In S&B news I lost patience with digging-in wires yesterday and ordered two new bras from Figleaves (there is an offer). I shall perk again.
