MI :)

Lego movie, shopping and lunch tomorrow..... Then back to work and dp takes over....

CointreauVersial · 16/02/2014 23:50

BD - in a similar vein, DS had his first kebab a few days ago. Grin

DH said it was a true "rite of passage" even though he wimped out of the chilli sauce. He waded manfully through it, but said he wasn't in a huge hurry to have another.

Blackduck · 17/02/2014 08:00

CV :)
Niece said we should tell her dad or he'd be shoving the stuff down her throat at every opportunity! It's her mum that doesn't eat them.

NUFC69 · 17/02/2014 13:27

Another non curry eating person here. I can never understand why, as individually I like all the spices. I think that, possibly, if I ate an authentic home made one I might like it; as it is the smell really turns me off and I can't face a restaurant. I am trying to ease myself in gradually and try food with small amounts of curry.

I am sat waiting for my 20 odd guests to arrive for a talk on Nelson's best friend (I assume that is not a euphemism in view of what I know of Nelson! ).

motherinferior · 17/02/2014 15:14

My report is back to be re-edited...

beachyhead · 17/02/2014 15:56

Who was Nelson's best friend?

motherinferior · 17/02/2014 16:03

Hardy?

Is it a bit like a Friend of Dorothy? Love that expression, I do.

Stropperella · 17/02/2014 17:36

My guess (aided and abetted by Google, natch) is Cuthbert Collingwood.

I'm not hugely keen on curry either (sorry, curry lovers).

Stropperella · 17/02/2014 17:52

Stropp's Monday trivia spot: Nelson's Thomas Masterman Hardy was probably distantly related to TH the writer. They both came from the same area. I can see the monument to Nelson's Hardy from my office window.

NUFC69 · 17/02/2014 18:26

Talk all over and house restored to normality (unfortunately there are naice biscuits left over). So, Nelson's best friend was Alexander Davison. His story is interesting; basically the son of a farmer from Northumberland who made good, he seemed to spend most of his life bailing out Nelson and Lady Hamilton. It's totally changed my view of Nelson who actually seemed to be an idiot (apart from saving the country that is! Grin )

How are you, Mrs S? I hope all is going well for you.

DH's birthday tomorrow so we're going for an Italian in the evening. DGS and I will be making a cake in the morning.

motherinferior · 17/02/2014 18:29

Ah, curry admittedly my mother, for all her failings, is a terrific cook.

I am in love with the author of this report who likes my edits. Is that rare thing, someone who has written something but isn't precious about it.

NUFC69 · 17/02/2014 18:31

Sorry - meant Stropps there, but I guess you're a Mrs S as well.

Actually Hardy was mentioned, as in "kiss me, Hardy." We have loads of streets named after Collingwood, plus the Monument in Newcastle.

cremolafoam · 17/02/2014 18:51

Ooh it's got all literary and historical on here.
I didn't eat curry until I was about 25, but now I couldn't live without a dhansak on a regular basis. I adore heat in food too. Chilli and Mexican food and a good Vindaloo. Our local mexican take out makes a sauce from Dorset Nagas and ghost chillis. I could eat it off a spoon.

Absolutely grim day at work. The kind of day you wished you'd stayed under the duvet. Drunk Exuberant children queuing to be at the front of a gig from about 8am this morning. Nice to know they're having a edifying half term on the blue WKDs.Shock

An offer from Figleaves, you say, MI?

I need to do something about my hair. At the moment it resembles spaniel's ears with a touch of the Lily Savage about the roots. Any suggestions?

motherinferior · 17/02/2014 19:13

As I look like the love-child of Jenni Murray and Beaker from the Muppets at the moment, that would be a no...

Think the offer is still on. Yep, 20 per cent off.

I found DP looking at laydeez' nightwear, though suspect this was for me rather than him

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/02/2014 19:22

I look like the love child of Rowlf and Miss Piggy in that case, MI. Grin

bigTillyMint · 17/02/2014 20:08

All very historical today laydees!

Gorgeous sunny day, blue skies, actually enjoyed skiing todaySmile Feeling knackered now though as we have only just come in after eating with friends straight from skiing.

I would say that I have seen a few crepey French laydees sporting some rather unchic looking moustachesShock

CointreauVersial · 17/02/2014 22:47

Had a lovely lazy birthday, just me and the DCs for most of the day; DS had some mates round, but they stayed in his room eating doughnuts and watching films (although I did kick them out of the house at one point, telling them to "go and feed the ducks, or something". Bless them, that's exactly what they did Grin ).

The washing machine is now fixed (bye bye another £100), so I spent the afternoon working through the laundry backlog.

Then this evening, DH and I sneaked up the road to the posh Italian and had a lovely boozy meal together. I'm really not looking forward to work tomorrow.

Happy Birthday CV! I have memories of taking my younger brothers to feed the ducks at that pond!

Auriga · 17/02/2014 23:44

Happy birthday CV.

We had a lovely weekend near Cologne with DD's German exchange family. They gave us a great welcome and a good balance of culture, nature, food, pottering and chat. The girls were overjoyed to see each other again and included the younger brother in everything they did. It is, amazingly, the first time I've spent more than 24 hrs on German soil Shock.

Going away is a good use of a weekend, isn't it? Really stretches the time. I was a bit worried about DM but she was fine, especially as the kindly dog-walker fetched the newspaper for her, so she didn't need to go out in the wind (no deliveries round here).

bigTillyMint · 18/02/2014 07:00

Happy Belated Birthday CV! Hope you"re not too hungover todayWink

NUFC69 · 18/02/2014 08:19

A belated happy birthday to CV.

DH's birthday hasn't started as expected. Phone rang and it was DD to say that they had hot water pouring through the ceiling! They have managed to stop it and are now on the way here for breakfast and showers as they now have no water and heating. Sad

motherinferior · 18/02/2014 08:31

HBBCVGrin

Agree about weekends, Auriga. Do you think it's partly because one is totally out of the usual routine? Not just because of the lack of the usual chores but also because you actively have to fill the time. Even if that is by doing nothing/listening to pervy exes/drinking lots/all of the above...

motherinferior · 18/02/2014 08:36

I dreamed our ceiling was leaking! As indeed it has done before...

Have conducted first Ladyjog since Thursday. Hard work but feel better. House will fill up with girls freeing me to work as long as I feed them. I have to write Briefs today. This always makes me snigger.
