Oh CV Sad Angry

Drink. It is the only way.

herbaceous · 14/02/2014 19:58

He had a total meltdown because I only offered fruit for pudding. I only ever offer fruit for pudding. He then started to climb up to the cupboard to get a tin of 'treats'. I took it and put it in a high cupboard. Cue another meltdown.

Now he is repeatedly getting out of bed, then when I get cross saying "But I can't go to sleep if you're not being happy."

Not sure where we're singing yet. Someone's organising it for us. I don't think our choir's in the same league as yours. No-one actually asks us to come - we just invite ourselves along!

DH just said "surely it just needs a new belt?" as if he is going to whip out a screwdriver and fix it. Angry

motherinferior · 14/02/2014 20:19

I've double checked the bibliography. Now I'm starting to edit the executive summary.

How in the name of all that is holy can I seriously say 'Families where parents work have more money', which is what this sentence is effectively getting at? Eh? Eh????

bigTillyMint · 14/02/2014 20:19

CV, Laurent PerrierEnvy!

Haven't been to Harrogate for years. But it is lovely. And Bettys is an institution!

I remember those toddler tantrums. We now have teenage tantrums, of course!

Had our romantic family chippy dinner, now have to motivate everyone to bag packConfused

bigTillyMint · 14/02/2014 20:21

CV, that is exactly the sort of thing DH (who is similarly practically/mechanically challenged) would sayAngry

motherinferior · 14/02/2014 20:22

We have no booze except gin. And I dare not edit drunk. Imagine.

herbaceous · 14/02/2014 20:25

After his dessert-based tantrum he wailed 'look how many drips you've made'. It took me a while to realise he was complaining about the number of tears on his cheeks. Which of course made me forgive him everything.

NUFC69 · 14/02/2014 20:33

Sorry, Herbs, have I misled you? My several times to Harrogate have been weekends away, not singing! I do occasionally sing in a choir but I have never been asked to sing anywhere apart from churches. There is a fundraising Faure's Requiem soon - a come along and we'll put a performance together kind of thing to raise money for refugees. I would have liked to have done it but am not available during the day for the practice.

It sounds as if your DS is suffering from half term itis. He'll probably be ok after a bit of a rest.

Sorry about the washing machine, CV. It's like my oven packing up on Xmas Day, these things always happen when it's most inconvenient.

NUFC69 · 14/02/2014 20:35

Love it, Herbs. My DGS said his eyes were leaking! Love the things little ones come out with.

Blackduck · 15/02/2014 08:01

I had a fab evening trail round peoples houses - was all a bit 'come dine with me'n good time had by all and I have severe house envy. But then have been trying to sleep in a severe gale and couldn't because I thought the windows were going to be blown in!!

Blackduck · 15/02/2014 08:04

And I put on a top that only just fits and now know a. I need to lose weight 5:2 here I come and b. I need to exercise....

beachyhead · 15/02/2014 08:24

Survived the South Coast gale here. Only one branch down, which is incredible considering the noise it made.

Fantastic Valentines fondue for all here, obviously bar dd1 who is buried in snow in New York. Seems to be having a good time though.

Like those trousers, QQ.

Really pleased with your assessment, Stropps. It sounds as if they are being thorough, which is great. Strange how it only needs one good health professional in any situation to change the course you take.

bigTillyMint · 15/02/2014 09:27

BD, I remember doing Safari Suppers in the 70's. I don't remember it being very Come Dine with Me then thoughGrin

Wind was terrible last night - thought the dodgy fence on our side return was going to come down but DH propped it up with a brush, in the style of your DH, CV!

Thank God DH didn't book an early plane to the Alps - don't have to leave here till 1Smile

Blackduck · 15/02/2014 09:33

It was all the lovely houses - the food was pretty good too..... So instead of leaving a mess in one house we left a mess in four!!!

Still howling here - off to collect niece in a bit and then a quiet day.

Have a good weekend crepeys

herbaceous · 15/02/2014 09:48

Sorry NU - I had some kind of brain short circuit, and thought I was replying to Auriga, who is proper choiry.

And indeed, re DS. Lots of RandR planned. We've just watched Toy Story for the second time in two days. I bought it ages ago, he refused to watch it, then when I finally persuaded him, he cried at the end because it was too short.

motherinferior · 15/02/2014 10:15

I am back at the desk. Both Inferioriettes have parties to go to. I myself may make it out to purchase hairdye, having helped DD1 buy a present for Non Date Boy and bought sparkly nail varnish* for DD2's friend (who is one of those tall 11 year olds who look like a different species from DD2)...what is wrong with this picture, eh?

*At Sainsbury's, obviously. Rather nice range of nail polishes in that sort of classy Dioralike packaging. Though, to my distress, the clothing section is closed as is being revamped. Herbs, I shall update you on the new emporium when it opens...

MrsSchadenfreude · 15/02/2014 10:41

Saturdays always seem to be a day of cleaning and tidying to me, rather than rest and relaxation. DBIL and his DP are coming to stay tonight, and we are going out for dinner with them. Unfortunately I have no idea what time they are arriving - DH texted and was told "We'll let you know when we are leaving." The DDs and I are going to the theatre this afternoon, so won't be in, and DH has gone into town to find a birthday present for his DB. Place looks like even more of a shit hole than usual as DH has ripped some wallpaper off the wall in the hall, the cats have had a fight and covered the carpet in fur. There is condensation in the wardrobe and all of my clothes are sitting on the floor in the bedroom at the moment - I have no idea where I am going to put them, but obviously they can't live there forever. Will stick them in a suitcase for now, and push the hoover round to see if that helps matters...

MrsSchadenfreude · 15/02/2014 10:48

Oh and the old man who lives upstairs from us is worried that he is going to be murdered and has started sleeping on the stairs. He has Alzheimers and various other problems and several carers who don't seem to care at all - DH spoke to them about him and his worries and got a shrug and a glazed look. He asked DH if he could sleep at ours last weekend. While I'm happy to give him tea and a meal, I think this is taking things too far (thankfully DH agreed). DH is going to try and get hold of social services on Monday. Sad

CointreauVersial · 15/02/2014 11:04

MrsS, that's really sad. Has he any family at all?

It's still blowing a gale here, although beautifully sunny. The boys are at football, somewhere miles away, and the DDs have only just got up - they were absolutely exhausted by the end of the school week, poor lambs. DD1 came home with a good school report, although she was a bit despondent having been moved down a set in languages (from top to second of four sets). I've told her she might actually enjoy being top of the class.

I've booked a washing machine engineer for Monday (I have a day off for my birthday, conveniently), although the machine is ten years old, so we are debating whether we should just cut our losses and get a new one (throwaway society....tut tut). I suppose if there was ever a convenient time for a machine to break down, it would be half term, as I don't have the usual weekend rush to get uniform and kit clean for next week.

BTM - have a lovely week, you lucky thing.

wilbur · 15/02/2014 11:37

Yes, have a lovely week, btm.

Sat eating Waitrose dine-in for £20 last night, listening to the storm and watching the big picture window in our lounge bow in and out Shock. Then heard a massive crash, shattering glass - thought it was the greenhouse but couldn't see in the dark and I didn't want dh to investigate in case any falling glass got him in some kind of Omen-like accident. Got up this morning to find it was part of the greenhouse, but mainly it was a huge piece of plate glass that formed the end wall of a sort of covered terrace are we have (there are a range of strange outbuildings to this house). I'm Sad about it as I doubt we will be able to replace it - roof to this area is quite old and I don't think any glaziers would touch it. It was a rather fabulous 60s party feature of the house. Still, house, fences and trees still standing, so I can't complain (although I will a bit when I have to pick up all the glass).

Sorry about your washing machine, CV, that's a pain.

herbaceous · 15/02/2014 11:38

It's our turn for an invitation snub. One of DP's oldest friends lives nearby, and we've always been to her DD1's birthdays. The fact that she's six today, and will be having a party, is all over Facebook, but we haven't been invited. I'm hoping it's because at six, she actually wants to invite her own friends, not just children of her parents' friends, but am watching FB with interest to see who else is going!

bigTillyMint · 15/02/2014 11:55

MrsSSad Thank goodness you/your DH are helping out. Does he have any family?

Some movement from the DC on the packing/showering front. DH has planned a lovely journey involving a bus, train, plane and car. Thankfully DS can now carry a huge rucksack!

beachyhead · 15/02/2014 12:08

That's very sad Mrs S. I hope SS can track down some family or help in some way.

Sorry about your glass Wilbur. You won't believe how far glass can travel when smashed at speed!
