Do I win? :o

I could probably log into Love Honey and link the actual one, cos it was bought by the man I went out with before dh (so about 6 years ago)

But I suspect Shop will tell me off for being rude in Vogue!

maradesbois · 05/02/2014 21:03

Evening all,

I have just been catching up with this thread after a few busy days being ill and house hunting. Today I put into practice some good advice re. casual wardrobe that mignonette gave me last week and paired petit bateau mariniere with burgundy narrow leg 7/8 trousers & black pistols. It may not sound radical but was quite a colour and shape departure for me & worked. Had a real spring in my step today so thanks again for the advice! Have also been reading a lot here about having colours done. Could someone advise how you go about this? I would presume that I am autumn given my colouring (pale skin, brunette with hint of auburn) but it would be intesting to learn more. Merci!

Shock at One and Anni!

I can't think of worst of my own choice (too many to choose from!) but a friend got me a Boden shirt about 3 years ago. It may have been silk. It was shapeless and just totally wrong for me! My mother in my teens and 20s bought me so many horrors that I have blanked them from the memory bank!

AmberNectarine · 05/02/2014 21:10
  1. probably the suit I wore for the interview at my current job. It was black linen. Terrible.
  1. The engagement ring my Ex-F gave me. Tiffany diamond solitaire. Princess cut in a 6 claw setting. So classic. SOOOO not me. I should have said no there and then.
AmberNectarine · 05/02/2014 21:13

Not offended at all mig - as I always say on S&B it's different stroked for different folks. As for my maverick choices - this has been my first post-style day buy (admittedly 99p from eBay).

AmberNectarine · 05/02/2014 21:13

strokes not stroked. Anni's put my mind in the gutter.

maradesbois · 05/02/2014 21:26

Also, in answer to the question:

  1. An awful dress from HN about 10 years ago for a spring wedding. Can't remember the designer but it was red & white floaty material & empire line with a print of little dogs on! Sooo not me and wrong all round for a chic Parisian wedding. Can't imagine what i I was thinking but seem to remember it had something to do with channelling Carrie Bradshaw quirky. In the event didn't even wear it - opted for a classic black shift with great heels and have been wary of prints ever since!
  1. Black leather trousers. I would never even buy trousers for myself without trying on or half expect to return. They were technically my size but just a really bad fit and no receipt to exchange/return. A very strange gift.
shopafrolic · 05/02/2014 21:26

Seriously one and Anni I was only gone for an hour or so TMI TMI eurggghhhh

shopafrolic · 05/02/2014 21:29
  1. All the boho stuff I bought. Maxi skirts in 3 panels of colour, loads of wooden bangles etc etc
  2. My uncle bought me some pearl earrings back from Hong Kong. The pearls are enormous. So not me. He redeemed himself this year with my cream chunky wool scarf. A few years back he bought me a proper red silk kimono again from the Far East but it was too small for me - I was gutted!
BrandyAlexander · 05/02/2014 21:45

Grin at Shop! One and Anni, you knew it was coming.

I am so loving my rediscovered passion for candles. I have been burning one most nights and listening to soft music. Divine.

I had a look at the thread on Feb buys. Some lovely things. Quietly felt smug I hadn't bought anything. Then remembered dh's face when he opened the credit card bill. Then felt a heck of a lot less smug.Grin

shopafrolic · 05/02/2014 22:03

I never knew I was such a prude until I became a Voguette!

Mignonette · 05/02/2014 22:50

Oh my....Revelations

One was it the pleather, the squeaky pleather that did it? Shock

Laughing at the cow print skirt. I kind of get where you were coming from with that Dry bearing in mind how cool other animal prints are....

Linus Did you ever wear it? Men hey? And Liberty from your pics you are so NOT a rugby shirt woman.

Anni A STRAP ON??? Sorry, I had to shout that. A strap on? Where in Goodness to sake's name is that categorised as clothing? Grin. Apart from walking about with your own portable coat hanger?

Decam Couldn't you have just put the baby in it? Smile

Amber You are so not a black linen suit girl. Bit Jeremy Irons, that.
I like the skater skirt. I cannot wear the skater shape but I really like the print as it reminds me of the Tucker skirt I just got from Outnet.

Maredebois Really happy to read that- stripes and burgundy look sharp together. Keep on with the experimenting!

Shop I went through a very brief semi Boho phase in my early twenties just after moving to London. It was kind of Cyber-Punk-hippy from hanging around Hyper hyper and then marrying it with Club Dog in Finsbury Park! Not a good look. I sounded like a herd of Alpine goats clanking and jangling all over the shop.

OneLittleLady · 05/02/2014 22:53

Mig they were never worn, I'm pretty certain that was what brought about the end of our relationship as I couldn't look him in the eye after that 'gift' really. I was only young as well and very naive!

justasecond · 05/02/2014 23:03

Mig I had forgotten all about Hyper Hyper, used to love going there!
My worst purchase - lots and lots but most expensive a CD saddle bag in the blue denim monogram. So not me, don't know what I was thinking.
Worst present - everything from mil. She is a horrid cow who goes out of her way to buy me the most yuckiest, frumpiest brown thing she can find then says she got it because I always wear brown! I don't have a single item of brown clothing apart from boots.

Decameron · 05/02/2014 23:22

Mig if I could have fit her in, I would have. It made a very nice changing bag for a while!

Justa so when you say "Oh you shouldn't have" to your mil you really really mean it!

Annianni · 06/02/2014 07:58

Sorry Shop... Blush

But Mig... You wear it... It was attached to a rather dodgy pair of rubber knickers... It was bought for me... And I definitely did not want one!

Poor you Justa, can you not buy her similar vile-ness for her birthday etc?

Annianni · 06/02/2014 08:05

Had a huge argument with dh last night over dsd, which is what we only ever row about and I'm sick of it

I've hardly slept and I have an urge to spend some money today.

Also had a large bag of tortilla chips and a can of diet coke for my tea last night, so the healthy eating has gone out of the window

Turquoiseblue · 06/02/2014 08:17

Hugs Anni. That sounds horrible. I hate arguing with dh. Can you get a nap today at some stage ? Healthy eating was just interrupted, you ll get back on the wagon! Get on the bike to work off some anger maybe ?Smile

Worst thing I bought myself - crochet type top thing, loved it at the time - cringe now.

Worst thing bought for me - teeny non maternity lingerie from dh when I was 6 months pregnant and wailing that I felt huuugggee......

Mignonette · 06/02/2014 08:33

Anni.

I'd have been tempted to pop your 'special pants' on over my clothes and just wander about the house, hoovering, washing up, serving lunch wearing them. That'd take the sex out of them and serve the gift giver right. Would unnerve them.

Oh and walk up to them when they are reading or something wagglling my appendage and asking lecherously 'do ya find me sexy- do ya?' at regular intervals with a big Les Dawson leer on my face Grin

MarshaBrady · 06/02/2014 09:51

I'm at one of those big agencies with screens everywhere. Would drive me nuts I think.

Anni hope you're ok.

Stokey · 06/02/2014 10:21

Missed a couple of days, Anni and One, very funny, have made me feel rather conservative.

Love the skater skirt Amber

Good question Mig

  1. My worst purcashes have all been from Hoss in sales - I lived in spain and loved then but never earned enough money to buy from them so would get a couple of things in the sale. One was a flesh coloured vest, high round neck with shells embroidered over it, didn;t suit my olive skin or rather large boobs one bit. And a dress that was just cut weirdly and never suited me or any of the friends I have tried to palm it off on.

2.My wonderful MIL buys me boho tops from Next - I would never buy myself anything from Next. i can see why she thinks they are me, but they really aren't.

shopafrolic · 06/02/2014 10:25

Marsha I'm trying to play guess the agency now! Hope all is going well.
Anni hugs and I hope things improve - I am ignoring the other subject :)

MarshaBrady · 06/02/2014 10:55

Lol Shop. Have pm'd you with the answer!

shopafrolic · 06/02/2014 11:00

Nice one Marsha
Bravo New Balance website - trainers arrived this morning. Really like them actually - have surprised myself, and am wearing them immediately - I never do that......... Keeping the 7.5s - I am an EU40.

MarshaBrady · 06/02/2014 11:52

Good one Shop bet they look fab.

Ok my two things:

  1. I went through a stage of buying from small boutiques and I think I got some crochet-looking monstrosity. OH NO I remember I bought a white dress and thought cool in a Japanese way, but it was more Swedish masseur.
  1. Can't think of anything. Not clothes. Cluedo from dh as a Christmas present when we started dating. Confused
