That time of year approaches. Dinner and a bit of cheesy dancing on its way....

Anyhow, want something simple, stylish, little bit dressy, not expensive, a bit timeless, to wear with my lovely Indigo New Look skinnies (thank you Style and Beauty people). Am 5'2" and a bit pear-shaped if that helps! Preferably black (ok with indigo skinnies?)

Any suggestions? Have tried on a lovely sheer top in Zara but it was cropped which I can't wear, a few things in h&m and just seen a shell top with some sparkle round the neck on New Look...

New Look top

Zara top

Have this in black which I like but don't feel its dressy enough

Thanks OP for spurring me on in my quest and hope you are successful too Smile.

I don't believe it, went to check my link and they've all sold out Shock! Sorry OP.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 03/11/2013 22:36

If you like burgundy I bought this from Zara and it's lovely (if polyester).

noddyholder · 03/11/2013 22:41

Massimo one hideous on boobs they did in cream for summer very similar

Heathcliff27 · 03/11/2013 22:42

Hmm, i always thought skinnies would be no good for me, 5ft 4 pear shape, size 10 top, 12 bottoms. This is maybe something i need to try.

Ecuador · 03/11/2013 22:45

Good quality ones Heathcliff, the best you can afford. You don't want a saggy bot or knees Smile.

Heathcliff27 · 03/11/2013 22:55

Noo nothing worse than a saggy bot, i'm going to do some investigating this week. Turned 40 this year too so hope i don't end up looking like mutton

MarshaBrady · 04/11/2013 06:04

Love the Massimo one Faddy.

ColouringInQueen · 04/11/2013 09:27

Heathcliff go for really dark ones - indigo or black, boots/shoes dark to create a longer line and similar tone/ lighter colour top. Statement necklace also good for balancing and bringing eyes back to the top of you!

Lots of recommendations on these threads for new look supersoft skinnies which I have. Also come in 3diff lengths which is great for the short legged Wink

Thanks colour Smile

MrsCB my equipment shirt is my very favourite item of clothing - NOT frumpy.

Dresses all very well and good but how many of us can justify 'going-out' dresses. I certainly can't - a. I don't go out enough and b. all my mates would be thinking 'oh look at her, wearing that again'. Skinnies are my (non working) daytime wardrobe and I can sometimes even shoehorn a naice top into the mix (or wear it to work), but i'd look a special sort of bellend rocking up to toddler group in my Viv Westwood dress which is why it remains unworn after 2.5 yrs.

ColouringInQueen · 04/11/2013 22:19

Grin Amber yes, likely to get more wear (and not spend so much) on a naice top Wink. Am going to have to see what these equipment shirts are tho!

I like that first Oasis red...would you need a statement necklace?

Am quite intrigued by this red Cos top. Hate the Cos website, I can never see enough of the clothes! But love the colour of the top and think it could look quite sleek. Polyester though.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 04/11/2013 22:53

Like that zara top.

Skinny jeans are OK if you are skinny.

ColouringInQueen · 04/11/2013 22:53

Hmm yes some serious jewellry would be needed!

yes Cos colour is lovely!

TERRIBLE

LordPalmerston · 08/11/2013 18:40

I THINK IT WAS DRESSES FOR FATTIES that was deleted!!! omg

mammadiggingdeep · 08/11/2013 19:25

Haha......lord Palmerston...you didn't direct it AT anyone...it was at the brand....

Whoops.....slapped wrist :)

mammadiggingdeep · 08/11/2013 19:27

I like the red oasis one but think the arms might be cut off at unflattering point maybe?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/11/2013 20:56

:)

Cheap looking dresses too, whether for fatties or skinnies. Years ago though, I had a wiggle type black velvet dress from Miss Selfridges, and it was one of the most flattering things I have ever worn. Wish I could find a replica, to wear with suede shoe boots or ankle boots and grey nail vanish.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/11/2013 20:57

Red Oasis one is nice but would be a disaster on norks.

hollyisalovelyname · 09/11/2013 09:00

Missed the bit about 'dresses for fatties' . What? Where?

hollyisalovelyname · 10/11/2013 09:05
