A happy and safe place to talk fashion (from high end to high street), beauty and the arts. All welcome to bring a positive state of mind, lots of links and an eye for detail.

My car is broken! Just tried to get to the doctors and the two front wheels are going in opposite directions! So no swimming after all and a very upset DS while I wait for the RAC.....

Sleep I felt ill reading that. I don't wear my good jewellery because I have lost or damaged so much of it. How amazing that it was found. I wasn't so lucky.

Shop. As my Sister says, Cars keep you poor. We have our MOT soon and I just know the damn thing will contrive to fail it somehow. I deeply resent spending money on cars. Neither of us care a jot about what we drive other than safety.

Carrie Yes, remember that day off treadmill so well from my children's younger days. I'm afraid I always avoided all that PTA stuff. Used to send a cheque if funds needed rather than do all that meeting stuff. Maybe I was unlucky w/ the school but there was a particularly toxic bunch of PITA/PTA parents who were so bitchy i used to run in the opposite direction Grin. Stay in tonight w/ your DH. You'll enjoy it more. It's lovely to hear you say that you miss him. Good that you have that. I miss my DH terribly if we don't spend loads of time together.

Today I am wearing My Creatures of the Wind pinky/brown tweed/brocade/sparkle skirt here with a nut brown and cream stripe woollen sweater from ACNE and my Paul Smith brown block heeled pumps. Quite smart for me. I have meetings and Ward Round. I have my Ally Capellion satchel as need capacious bag today.

shopafrolic · 13/09/2013 10:08

I wouldn't mind but it's only as old as DS!

Oh and that Jaeger Jennifer tote i linked to a few weeks back?

Probably not the best buy if you carry anything heavier than a purse and phone. The straps are super thin and not very securely sewn onto the bag. i took mine back when i saw it. Very poorly constructed.

needastrongone · 13/09/2013 10:31

mig - I will catch up later but DH says Tom Ford perfume is bloody expensive Smile

mignonette · 13/09/2013 10:34

It is ££££.

needastrongone · 13/09/2013 10:38

He got me some though, my lovely DH Smile Love the skirt.

I once lost a Gucci watch in Menorca as the clasp had come loose, I will never forget the feeling afterwards as DH had bought me this and I loved it. It actually stops me wearing the Raymond Weil watch that he bought me for my 40th, which is ridiculous and a shame but the thought of the same thing happening fills me with dread and that did cost ££Smile

needastrongone · 13/09/2013 10:39

sorry about your car shop, hope you get sorted quickly.

MrsRadicchio · 13/09/2013 10:44

Great you found your bracelet sleep. Hope you are feeing better too. When do you start your course?

Novice I have lost track of your schedule! Are you still in NYC? Saw this online but probably not useful to you as you know the city well.

Dry good call about avoiding black. I love setting myself fashion challenges, I am a clothing nerd. Think you are probably more advanced in colour wearing but this post has advice about increasing brights in your wardrobe.

I thought I dressed with a lot of colour but since auditing my wardrobe and keeping more of an eye on what I wear, I actually mainly wear black, white and grey.

When I say I'm on a spending ban, please ignore me as I clearly can't stick to it. Bought this skirt for its colour mainly. Mig I see you pinned it too, would like to know what you would wear it with, colours in particular.

Love the skirt you are wearing today. I want to challenge myself to wear skirts on the weekend when I don't have to do as much crawling about on the floor with dc.

This brand has cropped up on some blogs - really like the biker boots.

MrsRadicchio · 13/09/2013 10:59

I was reminded of this by Novice requesting clothes for her charity:

give and makeup

santamarianovella · 13/09/2013 11:03

sleep I got that panicky feeling just reading your post!glad you found it,I once removed my ring at A restaurant when I was washing my hand, and just forgot it there, didn't remember it till we were on the taxi, started to panic and cry,dh asked the driver to take us back to the restaurant the driver said its very likely that someone snatched it,being how busy the restaurant was,and it was near closing time, rushed to the ladies room and it was right were I left it,nearly had a heart attack!

mrsR most of my closet is black and dark colors,I really want to try lighter shades but can't bring myself to buy any, love the boots,

BrandyAlexander · 13/09/2013 11:20

Morning Voguettes! I am back home. Absolutely knackered!

MrsR thanks for that link, NYC is sooo big that you always discover new places. I discovered a great new place for lunch yesterday and for dinner on Wednesday night. That's one of the many things I love about it.

Sleep, absolutely love that Maje dress. You always pick out such great things! I am so glad you have got your beautiful bracelet back, my heart was in my mouth reading that post, especially as I am wearing mine.

I wear my nice stuff all the time otherwise I would never wear it! So I am wearing my Boodles raindance ring, tennis bracelet, pendant and tiffany studs. I am very lazy about the studs and pendant and wear them every day. I also haven't taken my ankle bracelet off since I rediscovered it for our April hols, but with the end of summer I think they will be heading back into the jewelry box.

So, not much of a haul from this trip. Bloody dh guilty me,clearly! I got the neon top and jeans from J Crew (plus Shop's tee of course!), a couple of powder brushes from Sephora and a new Nars lip gloss, and, an ipad for my nanny and kids to share.

I errrmed and ahhhed over this skirt for ages and then said no. I think it was because I couldn't see how I would easily style it in current wardrobe.

BrandyAlexander · 13/09/2013 11:25

OMG Santa, I have that exact same story! It was my engagement ringBlush I didn't tell dh for a while because he I thought he would have a massive heart attack!

MrsR, that's a really good charity! Last year I did the John Lewis gift list thing for women's aid which I thought was fab.

mignonette · 13/09/2013 11:26

MrsR I like that boot site. These would definitely work that androgynous 'urchin' look.

I think another MNer pinned that skirt too and i commented on a whole load of wardrobe/colour possibilities for it. Will try to find it. I do like Ochre/nut brown/ silver grey and dark grey/ cream/ navy w/ that skirt. A well fitted button up plaid shirt would look great w/ it plus urchin boots., brogues or block heel pumps. Or a slouchy sweatshirt. Or a lace top/shirt with prim collar in cream. That'd be my choice. add a neon or bright belt.

Sleepwhenidie · 13/09/2013 11:27

It was an horrendous hour or so, that feeling when you realise something precious isn't there...awful. DH will not be hearing about it Wink!

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 13/09/2013 11:35

Morning all. Had four deliveries this morning - one for DD and just about everything I was still waiting for and, naturally, DH was here for all of them (the bugger's been out and about all the rest of the morning).

Everything is delicious.

The Massimo Dutti stuff is excellent, such nice quality. The black blouse is comparable to my Theory nude blouse for cut and quality. The navy cape is gorgeous as are the navy velvet skinnies.
The Cos cashmere scarf is a nice dark grey - not charcoal but not the ubiquitous pale grey you often get. It's a nice fine cashmere, not too bulky but also not so thin as to be rendered ineffective in cold weather. It's gorgeous and I love it. The cherry skirt is a little longer than I was expecting, but now I've seen it I actually prefer the length is is to the length I thought it was going to be. I'm glad I went for a 34 instead of a 36 - I wouldn't want it any bigger than it is - there's easily enough room for it not to be clingy.

The Loft suit looks a nice, neat fit and I will try it on when I get home. I think I may style it in a more retro 'Mad Men' way with leopard and deep red accessories. I'm taking my cue from some beautiful Hoss Intropia leather long-cuff gloves I've seen in deep brown, black and cherry. Not available yet, but I'll pounce when they are! The Wrap leopard/tartan scarf will be tried on with it for a colour test.

Speaking of the Wrap scarf, I am slightly conflicted. It is beautiful, gauzy and soft but....it smells weird. That musty wool smell. I considered spraying it with my perfume, but I wear Tom Ford Neroli Portofino, so you can understand my reluctance to just drown a scarf in it. Any suggestions? (Please nobody say Febreze Grin)

MrsRadicchio · 13/09/2013 11:37

Thanks Mig that is great. I have a flannel shirt and hadn't considered that at all. May try this weekend. Love the boots you picked, more than the bikers in fact.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 13/09/2013 11:38

Mig DD1 would love those boots. I must show her later - she's in bed sick today, poor lamb.

BrandyAlexander · 13/09/2013 11:40

Sleep, good decision. Grin I am such a space cadet at losing things. 2 weeks ago I left my laptop on a train. As you know with my job, a total No No! I could kiss the stranger who handed it in.

I was actually in the Caribbean for 24 hours and on Monday I left my iPhone in the taxi on the way to the airport to catch my flight to the US. Thankfully, I had the taxi drivers number and Delta were amazing. They basically relayed the phone from the taxi through ground staff and then someone run across the Tarmac to hand it to me as I sat on the plane.Blush

As if I hadn't bloody learned my lesson, Wednesday I lost my work security, thankfully someone found it and I recovered it just before I went to take the taxi to the airport.

I wouldn't dream of telling dh any of that cos he already thinks I am a total ditz, no point giving him more evidence!Grin

mignonette · 13/09/2013 11:56

Grumpy hang it on the washing line. I air dry all my clothing and hang outer wear there to refresh it. Hope your DD feels better soon. There's the usual back to school bugs floating about. All my teacher friends are sick.

Novice I was actually in the Caribbean for 24 hours I don't know whether to envy this or commiserate w/ the frustration of only getting 24 hrs there!

shopafrolic · 13/09/2013 12:06

Grumpy my Vince sweater smelt strange when it arrived but I hung it on a hanger on the line outside and it's fine now..... no need to disguise it

novice Smile at your myriad of lost items.

I am supposed to be doing tons today but just wanted to concur re the Massimo Dutti clothes, my items arrived today and are wonderful, I will be perusing the current collection for further items that I 'need'.

libertychick · 13/09/2013 12:25

What a relief you found the bracelet Sleep. My DH lost his wedding ring in Prague, I have still not fully forgiven him 5 years on!

Liking my outfit today, Mustard BR skirt, Oasis denim shirt, M&S snakeskin flats, and Whistles biker jacket

Thanks for the tips on DVF sizing Decam.

On the coat hunt I am now thinking about buying a Merrell or something similiar for now so I can cope with wet days and give myself more time to find something I really love that's more dressy - really liked some of the coats on the outnet over the last few days so need to start checking on a regular basis.

Love the colour of that skirt MrsR - my first thought is navy to wear with it but that's possibly a bit conservative.

Great feedback Grumpy - you are making me reconsider MD - I had been disappointed with the quality there previously.

libertychick · 13/09/2013 12:27

And another vote for MD from needa - great!

libertychick · 13/09/2013 12:30

Bah, the DVF coat is gone in the US6 only a US4 left....
