A new princessing/defrumping/groomed challenge

HelgatheHairy · 23/08/2013 18:09

So last year on 15th September I started a thread about a 100 day challenge to take us up to Christmas.

There are a few people who are interested in another try this year so this is a preliminary thread to see who's interested and people can gather any things they want. I'm sure most of us have a few face masks and things lying around.

This year I think we should include a defrumping element to the challenge which will focus more on clothes.

The grooming element is about putting the whole look together.

Am I making things too complicated??

The first link has the guidelines for princessing but there are no guidelines for defrumping and grooming.

I have a 13 day old DD so might not always get a chance to come on but will do my best to keep things up to date.

So are people in?

I have showered and deep conditioned hair, applied new moisturiser and primer before make up, fully made up with straight hair...I had a berocca and granola with blueberries for breakfast, one cup of tea so far! Have bought some more autumnal coloured nail polishes today so will tackle toes tonight, and am planning a bath to shave/exfoliate legs later on when everyone is settled. Need to drink more water though!

ILikeToClean · 30/08/2013 17:17

Can I join in? School holidays have meant I have put on 5lbs, not exercised, eaten rubbish and drunk far too much! I am going to have a last blow out this weekend and start on Monday! Here's my list:

Daily

  1. 8 glasses of filtered water a day
  2. (Clean and) floss teeth
  3. The Shred
  4. Take vitamins
  5. Shave in shower daily
  6. Eyelash serum every evening
  7. Hand cream
  8. Think about clothes the night before

Weekly
9. Exfoliate / body brush
10. Do nails and feet
11. Deep conditioning treatment on hair
12. Sort out handbag
13. Clean shoes

Two/three weekly
14. Dye hair

Monthly
15. Eyebrow threading
16. Face pack

Ongoing
17. Fasting 3-4 days per week
18. Sort out wardrobe
19. Eat more fish, fruit and vegetables
20. Alcohol, crisps and chocolate weekends only

I normally blow dry my hair, put make up on, moisturise etc so have not included those as they are already part of my routine. I just need to get back into the swing of being more healthy and doing some additional things. I have had my colours done recently so need to sort out some new things to buy etc.

Can't wait to get started! But am going to make the most of my weekend... Grin

lucysmam · 30/08/2013 17:25

We're not long in from soft play here. Just sat down to a chicken salad with my dd's...

Haven't shredded, taken off toe nail polish or anything yet & dd1 is expecting a bit of a pamper tonight too because we are all off for a meal in a nice restaurant (only time dp's been off to come out over the hols)....asda due in a couple of hours too so shred may wait for tomorrow depending how long everything takes since nothing house-wise is done today.

I will mini pedi and paint my toes though, and shave the bits of my legs I haven't got round to epilating yet.

Must buy vitamins!

Goinggreytoosoon · 30/08/2013 18:15

Managed to do morning routine, cleanse moisurise make up tied hair up (but made it look nice). No fizzy pop which is a massive thing for me as i normally sup nearly 2ltrs a day!!!!! Also timed my morning routine so i know what time i need to be up when dcs are back at school. Only one cup of tea, a litre of water and a pint of dilute pop. Took vitamin. Will deffo make a proper start after weekend

Karbea · 30/08/2013 18:27

Just got all ready to go out and DH said "right are you going to go and do your hair"... Guess that sums up why I need this thread!

Had a flapjack, jack pot with mayo and tuna, packet of crisps and a kit kat! Now out for dinner and drinks :/

lucysmam · 30/08/2013 19:08

Grin karbea...sounds like something my dp would ask!

Speaking of hair, does anyone have any recommendations for good youtube vids for grown up up do's?

We've just been in the shower, have exfoliated, moisturised, shaved all over....going to get a face mask tomorrow in Superdrug. I did look today but they were 49p for one of those single application packets in Home Bargains so thought a tube would be better value.

Ghd's are fixed & working so I will sort my hair after Asda comes (daren't put dryer on now in case I miss it like I nearly did last week). Anyone have a heat protection spray they favour?

(as an aside....is anyone else's dp/h a bit Confused at all the beautifying products? Mine is! But I used to be very vain & it's nice to finally get back on top of keeping myself looking lovely)

INeedSomeHelp · 30/08/2013 22:05

lucysmam I've been using the Tresemme heat protection spray for years and think it's really good and not too expensive. I blow dry my hair every day and straighten it probably every second day.
Managed to grab a bargain today, the new salon I've started using put some offers on Facebook this morning because they'd had some cancellations. So I was able to get my Shellac nails removed and re-done for £14 - result! They are a beautiful burnt orange colour and so, so shiny.

lucysmam · 30/08/2013 22:21

Will have a look for that in town tomorrow, thanks INeed...have just finished off a mini Charles Worthington one this week but it was tiny & I'd be buying a new one every week.

Hair is ghd'd Grin Grin .....well chuffed! still needs a bit more taking out of the right side but nowhere near to being as fluffy as I have been looking.

Not really done much else for me tonight, dd1 has lovely filed and polished (sheer pinky colour) finger and toe nails though Hmm and her hair dryed straight to wear loose tomorrow. Hope she doesn't expect me to fart around beautifying her as well as me every weekend Confused

HelgatheHairy · 30/08/2013 22:28

I finally got to go for a shower at 10pm. Out by 10.10 as I could hear DD crying. She's been cluster feeding since about 5pm! Used the hair dryer on my hair for the first time in 3 weeks, thankfully DD liked the noise so she was quite while I did it.

Justshabbynochic · 30/08/2013 22:46

I want to join! Will start tomorrow, 1st of the month.

I want to:

  1. Drink 8 glasses of water a day (2 litres)
  2. Use whitening toothpaste, floss, and my electric toothbrush 2-3x a day
  3. Take vitamins
  4. Walk dog/baby daily
  5. Shave daily
  6. Exfoliate daily using S and G body scrub
  7. Moisturise, esp. legs which are reptilian
  8. Get my hair in better condition.
  9. Invest in new skincare regime, and stick to it.
10. Self pedi once a week. 11. Eyebrow plucking once a fortnight.

I'm actually toying with going blow-dry/straightener free for a couple of months, whilst using my brand new L'oreal Eversleek shampoo/conditioner to get it healthier. Been researching anti-frizz products and updo's to try. Seriously need a break from the heat and chemicals. Can anyone recommend a good deep conditioner, please?

I've just turned 30, am a late bloomer so it's just been in the last couple of years that I've finally grown comfortable in my own skin. Would like to feel my best this decade! Smile

lucysmam · 30/08/2013 22:49

Justshabby, I use Aussie three minute miracle on my hair once a week. Had neglected it for months until I had it cut two weeks ago & it's looking good now Smile

NumTumDeDum · 30/08/2013 22:56

Thanks for the birthday wishes Tartiflette and Lucysmam. Very impressed with the bunting!

List starting tomorrow as I've had an enormous carvery lunch and ice cream and cake and wine Blush.

However, went out fully made up in an outfit that didn't make me want to cry and blow dried my hair using serum which tamed it somewhat.

Still ploughing through the thread to catch up.

Lucysmam, was it you asking about reducing pore size? I saw a new product in Boots in their no 7 range which is specifically for this. Tempted to get it myself.

Justshabbynochic · 30/08/2013 22:59

Ooh, brill will look at that one, thanks lucysmam. I really could do with a couple inches off myself...should probably book in and do it as part of this de-frumping business!

Justshabbynochic · 30/08/2013 23:01

1st of the month is Sunday I just realised Blush.

NumTumDeDum · 30/08/2013 23:08

Oh and thank you also Paintyourbox and Snapespeare. Sorry, tired skim reading!

TheYamiOfYawn · 31/08/2013 07:59

Lucysmam, google "Gibson Tuck" for a very easy grown-up updo. There are lots of YouTube tutes, and once you get the hang of it, it is only slightly more complicated than a ponytail.

JemimaMuddledUp · 31/08/2013 08:27

lucysmam I use the Tresemme heat protector spray too. My hair is too short to really get split ends etc (it needs regular trims to keep it in shape) but the spray works well to keep my hair smooth and shiny.

Right, I need to remind myself to check into this reagularly now, and try to read everything and keep up! Are we carrying on on this thread tomorrow or will there be a new one with the countdown to Christmas?

I am also having a bit of indecision as to whether to start the Joanna Hall 28 day Total Body Plan or start running again. I stopped running over he summer as hay fever was triggering my asthma, but now it is autumn it might be nice to start it up again. I used to run at 6.30am 3 mornings a week and really enjoyed being out in the fresh air before everyone else was up. I find the thought of that more inspiring than a DVD, but might change my mind if it is pouring with rain on Monday morning!

Snapespeare · 31/08/2013 09:39

I ate really well yesterday. Apart from the mints I found at the bottom of my bag. Drank my water, had my vitamins, went for a swim! Had a glass of wine with DD as she heard she'd got her first proper full time job.

Today, nothing so far. Must drink berocca, buy lemons, dettol and footner. Am a bit scared of footner.

lucysmam · 31/08/2013 11:44

Yami thanks, I will you tube gibson tuck later on when kids are in bed so I can experiment in peace.

No 7 pore serum was recommended on another thread as well so am going to have a look at that while we're in town and pick up some of the tresemme spray.

Am all made up and co-ordinated again. There's a little spare money in the bank so I'm going to nip into Primark and pick up a few bits. They'll probably only do this autumn/winter but my wardrobe needs updating.

& did I happen to mention my ghd's are working again Grin Grin ...hair looks loads better Smile

lucysmam · 31/08/2013 11:59

VITAMINS!!! MUST BUY VITAMINS !!

Karbea · 31/08/2013 12:33

Yami the Gibson tuck looks great and easy ;)

I'm still in bed, hungover! Time to get up now and eat something, although cupboards bare of anything healthy I think :/

petalsandstars · 31/08/2013 14:26

I thought this was a good idea to do but have just realised that I look a state so it is now more like a must do to sort myself out. Coming back towards the house from the washing line and saw my reflection in the patio doors .... 3 month post baby figure (although lost a stone so far) wearing below the knee shorts, my mums top as it has space for breastfeeding enhanced boobs, a cardi which is bobbly and not flattering at all and socks and trainers which I have had for a good 7 years!

I really need to get time to sort through my wardrobe and decide what actually suits me. I do like the idea of having colours done too if I can save some money for it.

Thinking baby steps for the first week then jump in with both feet.

caramelgirl · 31/08/2013 14:57

Ooh I'd like to join too please. I've really enjoyed reading everyone's achievements already. Operation Renovation sounds about right!

DS now 20 weeks and, whilst I've had a lovely summer, DD (nearly 4) has commented that I still have a baby tummy.
DS won't be put down or sleep v much at all and am trying to make the most of last pre school year with DD so I feel a bit constrained/exhausted but baby steps...
I've bought a clarisonic and am using it twice daily in shower and bath. Have bought, but not yet opened, BBH and some new (big size) winter clothes. And have organised my wardrobe a bit better so I can grab different stuff other than my yoga pants and nasty bfing t shirts.

DAILY:
Write down everything I eat on MFP
Do pelvic floor x 30 and tummy suck ins x 10
Wear clothes I feel nice in every day
Clarisonic face cleanse

WEEKLY:
BBH x 1/week
Make up at least once /week (hate thought of it rubbing off on baby)
Earrings once a week
Exercise: 2 x circuits class, 1 x swim, 1 x run and walk everywhere
Body exfoliation 1 x week at least
Mud mask 1 x week at least

Hopefully by Christmas we'll all be feeling a bit nicer and lighter too!

dazzlingdeborahrose · 31/08/2013 15:19

Well, I bought the 30 day shred (gulp). Will start tomorrow. I think my list will be:

Daily-
Skin Routine
Clean teeth with blanx
Hot lemon water
Exercise of some form
Skin exfoliation
Health eating
Drink more water

Twice Weekly-
Face exfoliation
Hair Oil

Once weekly -
Weigh In.

I've started easing myself in gently with lemon water, water and skin routine. Its 31st August. Tomorrow let the challenge begin in earnest!!!

Snapespeare · 31/08/2013 16:50
