A new princessing/defrumping/groomed challenge

HelgatheHairy · 23/08/2013 18:09

So last year on 15th September I started a thread about a 100 day challenge to take us up to Christmas.

There are a few people who are interested in another try this year so this is a preliminary thread to see who's interested and people can gather any things they want. I'm sure most of us have a few face masks and things lying around.

This year I think we should include a defrumping element to the challenge which will focus more on clothes.

The grooming element is about putting the whole look together.

Am I making things too complicated??

The first link has the guidelines for princessing but there are no guidelines for defrumping and grooming.

I have a 13 day old DD so might not always get a chance to come on but will do my best to keep things up to date.

So are people in?

Been watching thread for a couple of days so thought I take the plunge and join. DS will be 2 in December and I'm determined that I will not still be a frumpy mummy by then. Will make my list today. I've also joined a 30 day squat and crunch thread to get me doing some exercise on days I can't make it to the gym.

tartiflette · 29/08/2013 09:06

Hmm so far am doing better at nails, moisturising and hair removal but still need a kick up the backside re diet and exercise. Am using the children as an excuse really, I need to get into some kind of a routine.
Clearly I need a notebook Wink

HelgatheHairy · 29/08/2013 09:22

Welcome to all the new joiners! Everyone is welcome!

tartiflette you definately need a notebook - with lots of lovely lists. Notebooks are very motivating!

Also today is DHs first day back at work so I'm on my own with DD, DDog and Cat. There will be no princessing (or showering) until 4.30.

Inspired by BJR, DS will also be 2 in December and I still look like a train wreck 90% of the time.

My rules are as follows:

  1. Remove make up every night before bed.
  2. Shave legs at least twice a week.
  3. Moisturise legs and arms every day.
  4. Moisturise face twice a day.
  5. No chocolate or sweets.
  6. No take away coffee.
  7. Run 6k twice a week (sounds arbitrary distance but that was my normal route earlier this year)
  8. Lay out work clothes the night before.
  9. Blow dry hair (slattern - have been leaving it to dry on it's own) and straighten after washing.
  10. STOP BITING MY NAILS!
  11. Meal plan more effectively so stop eating so much refined sugar.
  12. Pluck eyebrows and check each week.
lucysmam · 29/08/2013 10:28

Good morning everyone Smile

Late start to the day here as dp got up late for work, had no lunch ready, needed a shower and work clothes washing so have given him a hand alongside sorting the kids (who had a lie in hence dp being up late)

Am just off to make the beds and get clothes out for the day then will cleanse, tone, moisturise and put make up on. Ordered glue for my ghd's last night so hopefully that'll be here over the next day or two & I'll be able to get them going again. Sick of using my mini straighteners, they're ok for doing my fringe and tidying any unruly bits but not brill for doing my whole head.

Just finishing my morning Brew then will switch to water for the rest of the day. Looking forward to weekend Wine but not missed it through the week, which is good!

Have been looking at some pics of me and the kids and I appear to have a bit of a 'tache in some of them Confused so can anyone recommend anything for that?

Snapespeare · 29/08/2013 10:31

I'm in from the 1st september - I have a wedding to attend in April next year, could do with losing around 3 stone (but too scared to weigh self at the moment) and I've let myself go since giving up gym attendance last october...and there will be someone i intensley dislike at the wedding, so I want to look groomed, thin and happy.

Daily

  1. vitamins and hot water/lemon on waking
  2. anti aging day cream and clean properly at end of day (hot cloth)
  3. 8 glasses of water a day
  4. Use anti-aging face cream
  5. 2 extra fruit/veg a day
  6. eat breakfast!
  7. eyelash growth serum
  8. walk to train station rather than getting bus
  9. brush teeth twice a day. I have 'got by' for years with only morning brushing.
10. NO white carbs 11. NO CIGARETTES!

Weekly/ad hoc

  1. dettol bath after mega-housework on saturday afternoon
  2. Intensive nail care (feet and hands)
  3. hair oil
  4. limit alcohol to two bottles of wine a week. I drink far too much.
  5. Body brushing
  6. limit meat to fish/chicken and eat freedom food. no factory farmed muck.
  7. One early night once a week.
  8. No more fizzy drinks
  9. three lots of proper exercise
10. paelo/low carb need to research this a bit. have low carbed before.

it feels really good to write that all down. :)

Snapespeare · 29/08/2013 10:33

oh and grow my eyebrows back in a bit so I can get them threaded. I crave beautiful eyebrows.

Rummikub · 29/08/2013 10:41

Hey all, lots of good lists here. So how will this work from 1st sept? Do we list what we have done?

bigkidsdidit · 29/08/2013 10:58

What does the dettol bath do, snape?

LonelyGoatherd · 29/08/2013 11:48

good luck helga!

I'm doing surprisingly well with the routine grooming. But I am failing utterly at diet and exercise - getting no sleep atm thanks to DS -teething? growth spurt? who knows.

I need to add in to my routine: lip moisturiser, cuticle oil (I rate the burt's bees lemon one) and wearing contact lenses.

Also need to work out a quick make up routine - does blusher look ok without foundation? And where do I actually apply it? fear I look drag queeny, but need the colour on my grey skin!

BJR · 29/08/2013 12:32

I have a notebook and a listSmile

  1. 8 glasses water daily
  2. warm water and lemon each morning
  3. Daily vitamins
  4. Eat a least 5 a day
  5. Give up crisps
  6. Chocolate only on Friday and Saturday
  7. Gym 3 times a week
  8. Small bit of exercise at home on non gym days
  9. One early night a week
10. Nails once a week 11. Blow dry and style hair 12. Eyebrows threaded once a month 13. Exfoliate and body brushing 14. Daily moisturising 15. Get hair cut and make podiatrist appointment

If I get to December still doing all that then I'll treat myself to getting my highlights done properly instead of doing it at home.

Oops may have spent the whole of DSs nap making listsBlush

TheYamiOfYawn · 29/08/2013 12:40

I am doing well today. Got up and did my shred DVD. The last time I did it, I almost keeled over by the end, but this morning it was tough but fine, so my fitness is much better than it used to be.
I have washed my hair, exploited all over, shaved and moisturiser.

I bought some Footner yesterday and plan on doing it tonight. Has anyone used it before? How much of my upper foot do I need to cover with vaseline?

I have also signed up for a 40 day dance Sadhana, so will be both doing more exercise and (hopefully) be all chilled and spiritual.

I absolutely utterly must get round to changing the plug on my hairdryer, and I'm finding it hard to remember to put on hand cream whenever I wash my hands.

Doilooklikeatourist · 29/08/2013 12:56

Oooh bakerofcakes I'm fat frumpy and fifty plus too !
Though not as fat as I was a little while ago .
I actually managed to get into my target trousers earlier , did the zip up and all !
However had both a Camel toe and a muffin top , not quite the look I'm hoping for ...

So my list in my new notebook so far

1 drink 8 glasses of water a day
2 take more care with my hair ( oil once a week , condition 2 x a week , blow dry and style every day )
3 take multi Vits
4 moisturise , moisturise , moisture
5 manicure and pedicure ( DIY version , will have a professional pedicure occasionally )
6 throw out tatty clothes
7 at least 3 nights alcohol free

What have I forgotten !

I like the daily gratitude thing , will work on that

Snapespeare · 29/08/2013 13:17

dettol bath - a couple of caps of dettol in a bath, you just feel uber-clean afterwards! good for minor scrapes and cuts that you might have collected but not been that bothered with as well. :)

Rummikub · 29/08/2013 13:18

Reminds me of child hood! Love the smell of it < odd behaviour, hides>

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 29/08/2013 13:38

I sometimes wash my floors with dettol because I love the smell so much.

HelgatheHairy · 29/08/2013 13:52

Thanks goatherd. Doing ok so far, although DDog keeps bringing me his favourite toy and doing huge brown "come play with me" puppy dog eyes. And as a 15 month Golden Retriever he's VERY good at puppy dog eyes! Have DD in a sling so have played fetch with him in the garden for a little while.

OP posts:
Blueandwhitelover · 29/08/2013 14:33

Just filed nails, didn't get round to dying hair due to mammoth cleaning session.
Have put hairdryer and straighteners ready to hand for going back to school next week and sorted and thrown out some old makeup. It might shock my poor young male teacher if I go back in looking faintly glam.

Snapespeare · 29/08/2013 14:46

had salad box for lunch in effort to start weaning myself off of carbs. it was glorious. feel a bit smug at looking after myself a bit better. :)

dettol now also comes in a lavender & orange version and is less 'dettol-y' :)

lucysmam · 29/08/2013 15:45

I'm shredding a tad earlier today. My thinking is that I might get more peace of an evening to do my bits and bobs like epilate/fingers/toes etc if I shred before tea, have tea, tidy/hoover and then shower with my dd's.

Dd1 likes the sound of princessing Grin ...she is only.six though!

Rummikub · 29/08/2013 16:15

Snape I tried that one too but wonder if its as effective as it doesn't smell like antiseptic!

Rummikub · 29/08/2013 16:18

I have used my body glove to exfoliate and at work used stairs not lifts. I am trying to find and use opportunities for exercise rather than gym (disliked gym, unless I had a personal trainer and can't afford now).

lucysmam · 29/08/2013 16:43

shred done...nowhere near as out of puff today Shock ...tea cooking nicely (herb & garlic fish if anyone's interested)! Am a bit sweaty but going in shower with kids later so will live with it until then.

1.5L water drunk so far today as well.

Not doing too bad I don't think.

Rummi wasn't it a bit intimidating having a personal trainer? I don't think I could cope with a rl person judging my exercise Grin

I'm planning to try and walk more from next week. Sometimes I would do but it's a bit too far from here to anywhere we go really.

bigkidsdidit · 29/08/2013 17:20

I used to have a personal trainer. I expended most energy focussing on not farting Grin
