HoC Spring thread....

BeginnerSAHM · 12/08/2013 19:00

This is a thread for all of us who have had their colours done' by House of Colour and are a Spring. (And 'believe' in it...Wink.) Or, by CMB and are 'clear and warm'. Think a few other CMB catergories might be spring too - 'soft and warm' maybe/' warm and clear' (different from 'clear and warm' because of the order of priorities/dominance...)?

Feel free to ask any Spring-related fashion/make-up/style questions on this thread.... (I won't know the answer but lots of people on these boards will!)

So, I'll start with a 'spring' question.... I never wear lipstick. I occasionally wear neutral-ish lipgloss on a night out but never reapply during the evening so it's always gone within the first 20 mins. I know as a spring, I 'should'. Can anybody suggest a Revlon lip butter that is springish? I gather they are more sheer than full lipstick so might be a good way for me to start trying lip colour out! Thank you

oooh Rip has brought me out of lurkdom with all her talk of nat gam.....

I suspect (hope) this might be me - am obsessed with Boden bistro crops and Gap patterned slim crops teamed with little merino jumpers and cashmere cardigans - does that sound N/G?

Gillybobs · 31/10/2013 18:13

Sounds gam, won't necessarily be nat gam. Could be classic gam. Do you find grooming a pain and like a natural look or have you never a hair out of place?. (Difference between nat and classic). Or you could be a dramatic gamine. My sister is dram gam, suits all the neat fitted stuff but needs edgy jewels and shoes to keep it interesting

cardoon · 31/10/2013 18:24

Definitely not highly groomed - unruly curly hair makes sure of that Grin

I do like quite statementy jewelry but never thought of myself as dramatic.....

Love tweed/tartan/cashmere...expected that to mean natural (plus the wild hair)...

Gillybobs · 31/10/2013 19:13

Statement jewellery can be dram or rom, dram jewels would be angular , rom jewels fairly big but softer shapes.

Honestly it's so tough to guess, book it and go! You won't look back

cardoon · 31/10/2013 19:55

hmm, probably multi chunky pearl arrangements are my favourite....so much to think about... Thanks for taking the time gilly BTW

Have just ordered this in the rainforest green - hope it's suitably spring, although it does look a little blue Confused

Fooogle · 31/10/2013 19:59

Ooo cardoon you sound like you pull off the look I like where I fail! Have mad curly hair also though so I don't look groomed. Kinda like the crystal tips look but feel it needs balancing with not too billowy clothes!

gilly do you know any good spring bricky lipsticks off hand? Toying with Hoc one but bit of gamble unseen...

Joycey29 · 31/10/2013 20:54

Anyone else in Bristol area fancy a style day???
I now feel I need to know!!!!

Gillybobs · 01/11/2013 07:35

Foogle what do you mean by tricky? Warm dark red? I like Clinique dubonnet, it's not as bright as most of our lippies but it's definitely warm and not deep enough to be autumn.

Gillybobs · 01/11/2013 07:36

Sorry, bricky, not tricky

RipMacWinkle · 01/11/2013 08:51

Does golden brandy not fit that bill? Not red enough?

Gillybobs · 01/11/2013 11:16

Clinique golden brandy is more brown/Orange

Mumelie · 01/11/2013 19:24

Joycey29 I'm quite local to Bristol and would recommend Jan the Bath consultant for your style day. I saw her for both colour and style this year and she was great.

Fooogle · 01/11/2013 21:14

Yes, kind of brick red I suppose, gilly - reddy orangey. I don't quite know what the ultimate lippy is for me but a kind of 'I've just eaten tomato soup' type shade seems to work well with my blue eyes...!
Will look at dubonnet and Golden brandy next outing to the real world from mum land Grin

BeginnerSAHM · 03/11/2013 09:22

Hello Springs! Just back from a half term break and wanted to share my latest 'Spring' find... A clinique chubby stick - mega melon. It's really sheer (cross between lip balm/gloss but only with a light 'sheen'), seems to be suitably 'springy' bright and has sufficient pigment not to make my lips look weird. (I have fairly pigmented dark lips...but hate wearing lipstick in the day.)

Will catch up on everything else soon!

Today, i'm wearing a thin tomato red sloppy jumper with cream l/s top poking out and dark skinny/straight uniqlo jeans (£7.68). And mega melon chubby stick!

I have that chubby stick!!. I think the fb pages had that listed more as a soft autumn colour. But I agree with you, it's perfect daywear and not too scary for non lippy wearers. My only gripe is that to doesn't last as long as I'd like Smile

Aquelven · 03/11/2013 14:02

I have the Chubby Stick in Mighty Mimosa which I find a wearable, warm, every day pink ( plus quite a few others in wrong colours Blush )

Fooogle, while you're searching have a look at Max Factor Bewitching Coral & No7 Coral Rose. They might suit though they may not be as dark as you want. I've heard No7 Siren is a good warm red but haven't looked at it so don't know if it's true.

I'm all wrong again today in black jeans & a big sloppy, fluffy, polo neck jumper, which is lovely but in a deep fuchsia pink. I'd only finished making it the week before my colour day Confused

Fooogle · 03/11/2013 22:06

Thanks Aque, I ll have a look.
Today I've been fairly blue springy I think with a greeny turquoise jigsaw blouse, skinny jeans, teal cardi and blue leather converse. No lippy. Kind of given up over half term so need to restart my efforts!

Joycey29 · 03/11/2013 22:15

Not springy today either unless my old red hoodie counts!
Must try harder tomorrow!

BeginnerSAHM · 04/11/2013 08:35

Old red hoody definitely counts as long as it's a warm clear red Wink. And love the sound of your outfit fooogle. Finally finally ordered these dune boots (with 20% discount). Not sure how I can 'hide' that purchase from hubby.

Really nice boots, Beginner, look comfy too.
I find leaving stuff in the boot of the car till he's busy out of the way, or better still out of the house, works Confused

Doing a bit better today, black jeans, turquoise fine knit cashmere top, deep teal fluffy cardy, tan suede boots, no make up as yet though. It's flipping freezing here, we've had a frost overnight & everywhere is white.

Gillybobs · 04/11/2013 09:17

-2 here this morning so the focus was on warmth rather than colour! Top tip, I found mid grey fleece lined tights in TopShop, they have a sort of honeycomb texture to them so look quite nice. Very cosy! Wearing them with a grey moleskin knee length skirt (vintage Boden dahlink) and a light grey jumper with gold metallic threads through it (bought in the US). Trusty cream thermal long sleeve top from M&S underneath. Those tops are a lifesaver in winter. Also got some sheepskin insoles to wear in my boots and shoes. I bloomin hate the cold

BirdyBedtime · 04/11/2013 10:19

Hi all. I haven't been posting as I'm fairly rubbish on the makeup side so nothing to contribute there!

V chilly with us too here this morning (Gillybobs I think you're in Scotland too aren't you?). I got caught out with the car so will need to dig out the frost cover. I'm liking the sound of sheepskin insoles as I've got Raynauds and get v cold toes (and fingers). The tights sound great too - might have to pop in to Topshop at lunchtime.

Aque - I do that too. DH has such a rubbish memory that if I sneak something in then wear it he'll ask if it's new and I can fool him with a 'no I've worn this before don't you remember' type answer. It's harder with mail order though.

I'm in my coral short sleeved sweater dress, off-white l/s t-shirt underneath, navy leggings and brown boots. The dress is a real fave of mine as it's spot on one of my ** colours

Gillybobs · 04/11/2013 11:09

I sure am Birdy. Brrrr

Joycey29 · 04/11/2013 22:18

Thanks for the love for the old red hoodie Grin

BeginnerSAHM · 04/11/2013 22:20

Oh dear...Shock Seems I still can't find a spring daytime lippy that I'm comfortable with then Wink.

The smuggling of boots isn't a problem - it's wearing them that'll be the problem! Can't pretend I had them last year as I've been moaning about how knackered and non-waterproof my old boots are....Confused Rooky error.
