HoC Spring thread....

BeginnerSAHM · 12/08/2013 19:00

This is a thread for all of us who have had their colours done' by House of Colour and are a Spring. (And 'believe' in it...Wink.) Or, by CMB and are 'clear and warm'. Think a few other CMB catergories might be spring too - 'soft and warm' maybe/' warm and clear' (different from 'clear and warm' because of the order of priorities/dominance...)?

Feel free to ask any Spring-related fashion/make-up/style questions on this thread.... (I won't know the answer but lots of people on these boards will!)

So, I'll start with a 'spring' question.... I never wear lipstick. I occasionally wear neutral-ish lipgloss on a night out but never reapply during the evening so it's always gone within the first 20 mins. I know as a spring, I 'should'. Can anybody suggest a Revlon lip butter that is springish? I gather they are more sheer than full lipstick so might be a good way for me to start trying lip colour out! Thank you

Just catching up with everyone's posts since I was last here on Wednesday. Been in Scotland for a few days, birthday surprise from DH, & had no wifi or mobile signal at all where we were.
Love all the boots you've linked to. The navy ones are gorgeous, Gilly, & those Clark's tan suede are lush, Fooogle.

I've bought an M&S parka in chocolate.
This
It's got a cosy fur lining.

Not very springy today, grey jeans, purple jumper, black hoody.

Gillybobs · 27/10/2013 19:26

Fooogle I got those clarks boots last week in the sale! They are nice and comfy, worn them all weekend. The navy m and s ones are more for work and smarter wear.

Ooo Aque whereabouts in Bonnie Scotland were you? We could have had a mini meet up!!

The sequins on my jumper have been driving the dog MENTAL all day....

Fooogle · 28/10/2013 04:18

gilly, how funny you've already got those boots! Maybe I can justify them though we re in Cornwall this week (half term) so not the rugged footwear I need right now. I've got a leather tan v similar version from last year that I've worn to death to work.
Aque you've got a cosy coat, is it waterproof ish? I've got a Didrikson parka which is warm and waterproof but feels a bit drab and ill fitting!....

Bit like this but kind of khaki...
Still trying to wear lippy Grin

BirdyBedtime · 28/10/2013 09:23

Mumelie
I have a lovely bright coral storm jacket from Trespass. It was bought a couple of years ago but they do tend to do brighter colours if you go to one of their big stores. It has washed well and still looks good.

Today I'm wearing a chocolate/ecru stripe jumper dress (White stuff sale last year), kelly green cardigan, brown tights, tan pumps and coral/brown chunky necklace. One of my most springy combos!

Aquelven · 28/10/2013 19:52

We're slipping back again, so bump!

Gilly, we were touring the borders, Melrose, Hawick ( Pringle outlet Grin ) Newcastleton & then over to Moffat.

A Landsend catalogue dropped through the door today. There seems to be lots of our colours, has anyone ordered from them? Sorry if you've already said up thread.
Not at all springy today. Grey jersey trousers, grey jumper, Woolovers charcoal hoody...not even lippy. Hmm

Gillybobs · 28/10/2013 20:10

Aque, how lovely, I spent a weekend in kelso last month with friends and it's such a gorgeous area. It's about 90mins drive from where I live to the borders

jumpinghoops · 28/10/2013 20:48

Aque, only ever ordered kids wear from LE but it's really good quality, very often a 20% code knocking around if you order.

I have a week until my style day now and have been holding out on buying anything until then. Am really desperate for some lovely clothes and have saved a small pot of money specifically for this. Do you know gilly or anyone else that's been through the style day, are you always a mix of two styles? I am almost certain that I'm a classic something.

RipMacWinkle · 28/10/2013 20:53

I think a pure style type is very rare. One part is linked to your body shape, the other is your personality (I think). Often people have an inkling what they are so you might be on the nose with your classic something. But, for example, you can get classic rom and rom classic.

Mumelie · 29/10/2013 09:46

Hi Springs!
Just caught up on the last page of this thread - not been ignoring it - just keep buying stuff I see mentioned! Love both those pairs of boots and am on the hunt for a fab Spring colour waterproof coat in town today.
I had my style day about 3 weeks after my colours day. I'm interested to hear the body shape/personality bits can be different - this wasnt explained to me (or maybe I didnt take that in). I was an Ingenue Classic - so which bits the body (I'm guessing Ingenue) and which bits the personality?
There were 3 of us on the style day and we were all a mixture of 2. Good luck with it Jumping - it's a long day but very informative. Are you on your own or sharing it?

jumpinghoops · 29/10/2013 15:19

That makes sense Rip, thanks, that's useful. I am pretty sure my body shape is classic, it's the personality bit of it I can't work out. My understanding is that there is one dominant style type and that comes first but whether your dominant bit is your shape or something else depends on the person. Maybe I just made this up though Smile

I'm not sure if there will be anyone else on the day, I'm travelling quite a long way to do it and it will be my first 'day off' since having my dc2. I can't wait for the peace of an unaccompanied train journey let alone the style bit!

Joycey29 · 29/10/2013 19:48

Thanks to a 'random act of kindness
I now have the most amazing pair of coral trousers that fit a dream!
Mumsnet is great! Grin

Gillybobs · 29/10/2013 20:42

Jumping the noun is the second part and the adjective is the first part. So as a romantic classic I'm predominantly a classic with rom leanings!! I think the first part is more likely to be your body but it's not an exact science. I do have a few romantic personality traits (quite motherly for instance) but I'm much more classic overall.

RipMacWinkle · 29/10/2013 22:47

I might have picked it up wrong. I'm a natural gamine and now I'm into my groove with it I'm surprised I ever thought I was anything else. Penny has well and truly dropped.

Fooogle · 30/10/2013 19:30

So Springs... How about today? I'm wearing a Kelly green gingham shirt and teal cardi from uniqlo... That's the extent if spring today! Khaki green wellies don't count... Kelly green pashmina type scarf attempt at pulling off wet weather clothing...
Slowly acquiring scrap tshirts in spring colours to make my necklaces from... Will see if they can save me from the miserable broken bead necklace moments incurred with two littles...

Fooogle · 30/10/2013 19:32

aque was it you who bought Runway coral lippy? How's it wearing?

Fooogle · 31/10/2013 07:02

Whilst I chatter away to myself... Ripmac, what should you wear then as a 'natural gamine'? I think I've some classic lurking in me but not sure what else. Anyone a classic? what does that suggest you should wear? To be honest I feel I could fit in with bits of all of them, liking sparkle/tailoring etc

Gillybobs · 31/10/2013 09:22

Foogle, Im a Romantic CLassic, so my predominant type is classic. We need well made, good quality fabric clothes in classic shapes, always groomed, penchant for shoes and bags (leather, natch) . My romantic element means I need luxe touches such as silk or satin tops, understated bling, drapey necklines and soft shapes, nothing too angular or masculine. So for example, although I should really suit the classic capsule wardrobe stuff, the classic white shirt is a disaster on me as its not feminine enough for my Romantic element.

I have a sheet somewhere with a very basic summary of all the types, I will look it out someday and link to it. They don't publish much online about it, assume they don't want folk self diagnosing all over the place. Its as much to do with personality/body shape as anything and the measurements taken on the day and the lengthy questionnaire you fill in all contributes to the diagnosis. Its such a fascinating experience

RipMacWinkle · 31/10/2013 09:58

Fooogle - my predominant type is gamine so for that I'm wearing neat, structured, fitted clothes. No large overbearing patterns or floppiness. The buzzwords are neat, snappy etc so e.g. cigarette rather than wide leg trousers. The gamine also has an element of youth and fun so I try to bear that in mind too....

For the nat side, it's about comfort and texture / different materials. So in winter I try to think about tweed, cord, wool

For example, the other day I wore a cream short textured jumper with a brown tweed mini a line skirt, brown leggings and long flat boots. I brightened it with a necklace and scarf in red and lippy.

I reckon, for me, this felt like a proper nat gam outfit.

Fooogle · 31/10/2013 13:04

Oo interesting. Well... I can't seem to pull if cigarette pants as calves are wrong shape though am drawn to them. I tend to wear wide leg ones more... So maybe not gamine...
Classic...I probably look best in shirts and blouses and well fitted tailored things but I am too stingey to pay for them!
One day I ll go and be sorted! Thanks gilly and rip for helping me fathom it a bit...

Fooogle · 31/10/2013 13:05

Pull off... I meant. Oo er!

Aquelven · 31/10/2013 15:39

Yes, Fooogle, it was me who bought Runway Coral. It reminds me a lot of the HoC colours, except more moisturising. It has the same sock it to 'em brightness, in fact it's very similar to HoC 30, or 709. I know they're not exactly the same but it's sort of between the two, in the same ball park.
When I first put it on I think, flipping eck, it's a bit bright! But once I've walked about a bit & look in the mirror I've got used to it & it's ok. Still not sure if I'd buy it again.

Well, I'm letting the side down big time today. Black pants, lilac jumper, dark, murky plum cardigan, nothing springy at all Confused
But they're lovely styled woollies I bought last winter & I'm loathe to just chuck them, do you ever feel like that?

I keep putting off booking a style day. Don't know why cos I want to do it, just seems so much else to do & it's so freezing here I'm finding it hard to motivate myself to go out more than I already have to. Wonder if there's such a style on HoC as a classic, scruff?

Aquelven · 31/10/2013 15:46

Wow!
Have you read the HoC Autumn Lipstick Recommendation thread further down?
Someone on there called Tracy K seems to have listed every autumn lipstick in the shops for all the different types of autumn.
Now, why couldn't she be spring & do the same for us?

RipMacWinkle · 31/10/2013 16:04

There are lists out there of makeup for the seasons. I'll see if I can find a link later.... Gilly is your makeup lady anyway. She knows tons.

Gillybobs · 31/10/2013 16:21

TracyK is indeed the autumn lippy guru : ). Seriously, there are great Facebook groups for those mega into the colours malarkey, I think Tracy got that list from one of those

Why thank you lovely Rip Wink I do indeed know my make up, having spent a small fortune on t he stuff since the tender age of 12

Gillybobs · 31/10/2013 16:27
