HoC Spring thread....

BeginnerSAHM · 12/08/2013 19:00

This is a thread for all of us who have had their colours done' by House of Colour and are a Spring. (And 'believe' in it...Wink.) Or, by CMB and are 'clear and warm'. Think a few other CMB catergories might be spring too - 'soft and warm' maybe/' warm and clear' (different from 'clear and warm' because of the order of priorities/dominance...)?

Feel free to ask any Spring-related fashion/make-up/style questions on this thread.... (I won't know the answer but lots of people on these boards will!)

So, I'll start with a 'spring' question.... I never wear lipstick. I occasionally wear neutral-ish lipgloss on a night out but never reapply during the evening so it's always gone within the first 20 mins. I know as a spring, I 'should'. Can anybody suggest a Revlon lip butter that is springish? I gather they are more sheer than full lipstick so might be a good way for me to start trying lip colour out! Thank you

Please excuse dreadful spellings- i should have checked before posting

BeginnerSAHM · 10/10/2013 09:10

Hi Hollyisalovelyname - I've only had luck with warm reds so far (- the house of colour 55 is good for nights out but very very red if you're not used to lipstick). Pretty sure somebody recommended a Boots no.7 coral one recently which I'll have a look at but all coral ones I've tried so far do make my teeth look yellow...Blush. Perhaps they just are! Will be keeping an eye on the answers! (I couldn't find a good Mac one either....)

Thanks Gilly! Beginner my blog is here

Hopefully · 10/10/2013 09:33

Holly I would maybe think about trying some of the spring pinks rather than corals if you don't like the peachy/corally shades. I can advice on HoC shades, but I'm not much cop on other brands!

BeginnerSAHM · 10/10/2013 09:34

Great website Hopefully!

Hopefully thank you, yes I see on checking back that it was an old thread that had been resurrected, hadn't noticed on first reading.
Very interesting blog. Only one complaint about it....you're an Autumn not a Spring so lots of the lovely things aren't for us Grin

Holly No7 Mischief isn't orange at all, it's a bright Spring pink. I don't do orange well either but really like that.

BeginnerSAHM · 10/10/2013 13:29

Alemci - well done on the job... Grin. Think I might have to change my username soon as I might have for a job again too! And i might even be able to go on a mini Spring-shopping spree. See what the salary offer is first though Wink.

lol Aque I will endeavour to do more Spring stuff if you lot are reading!

Beginner I'm mid style class at the moment (just printing off some notes), but will reply to your PM later, promise Smile

alemci · 10/10/2013 15:52

thats great SAHM :) I'm dying to spend some money without feeling guilty.

I bought some shoes in a charity shop which were practically new, nice leather ballet pumps in Navy with patent toe, Spanish make I think so good result today.

Gillybobs · 10/10/2013 17:25

Hopefully I know lots of Springs who read your blog!

Fooogle · 10/10/2013 19:59

Holly I've bern trying loads of lipsticks...think I can manage an orangey but not sure anymore! Lots are so bright that are recommended I feel I'm trying to educated self into wearing them.
Tried Jane fardon samples today... Poppy, warm pink and apricot. Dunno which is best... All lovely but ultimately I kinda feel showy offy when wearing conspicuous lipstick... Despite not thinking the same of others wearing it!...

Anyway!
hopefully I enjoyed your blog too. Would I get found the best lipstick if I had a rerate? Maybe it'd stop me buying more! Grin

Fooogle · 10/10/2013 20:01

Also she rambles... do any of you think you can wear lippy when you re quite casually dressed? Ie SAHM type jeans and converse days?

Aquelven · 10/10/2013 20:06

Yes, I do Fooogle but a bit less bright.

wools · 11/10/2013 05:01

I too love your blog Hopefully and have been following it for ages - would love to see you featuring some Spring items.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 11/10/2013 06:31

Hopefully I am a Spring that reads your blog too. It's great.

We are your public.

Aquelven · 11/10/2013 16:44

Are there any Spring blogs, does anyone know?

No wonder I couldn't find the Revlon lipstick!
Looked at Boots website & they have 33 colours in that particular type of Revlon lipstick. My local branch, not a tiny one, a fairly large one on an out of town retail park, had just six colours!.......,SIX! Angry
What chance is there when they stock such a limited range of what's available.

Hopefully · 11/10/2013 17:15

Foogle You could certainly get lots of advice on lipsticks if you went for a re-rate, and would have the time to try on all of the HoC spring lipsticks (there are a LOT) if you so desired. And I wear lipstick whatever I'm wearing, FWIW. It makes everything look more intentional, iykwim (like, I must have made lots of effort with my outfit, because I bothered to put lipstick on). I am usually one of about three mothers at toddler group in lipstick, but get nothing but compliments and nice comments about it.

Will make an effort to start featuring some Spring items! In fact, have been thinking about maybe a post on A/W shopping for springs and summers, and then S/S shopping for Autumns and Winters, since it tends to be more of a pain.

Fooogle · 11/10/2013 18:34

Thanks hopefully that's even more tempting.., better to do a rerate alone or with a group? Our local lady has both options...

Ooo yes winter shopping for spring d be good. Been eying up winter coats in eBay (cant justify 'proper' big coat spend really) but maybe I should wait for your post and my rerate!

Aque, sorry to have set you on a chase! Think it might be up your street though...I think I may be better in coral less pink for some reason...still liking the mad orange one I bought!

Chilly here today... Cracked open the green cashmere jumper and found a brown one today too! There mostly blokes ones but look ok with skinnies!

Hopefully · 11/10/2013 19:15

I imagine a group would be nice, but maybe mention your lipstick issue and see what she suggests, in case she thinks you would be better one to one? I only do one to ones, but only because I get so few re-rates, not because I don't want to do groups.

Gillybobs · 11/10/2013 20:25

Fooogle max factor pink Brandy is a good one for us

jumpinghoops · 11/10/2013 20:48

Gah, just lost big post.

Good pink (maybe verging a little on neon but still warm rather than cool):
Topshop Brighton Rocks. Always get positive comments when I wear it. Not really an everyday one though.

Hopefully would LOVE a post on your blog that included ideas for a Spring in Winter. I always struggle, my first post on here was asking how other Springs found good things...incidentally I think your Fulton Rainbow umbrella is a good spring buy, no? I love it anyway Grin

wools · 12/10/2013 07:38

Yes please Hopefully - a blog on buying Spring items in Winter would be fab!!

Joycey29 · 12/10/2013 21:40

Wore my new lovely coral blazer from 'The Hut'- gorgeous and loads of comments!
For £17.99 with free bag - winner! Grin

GlassesDontSuitMe · 13/10/2013 00:20

My search for a navy coat is finally over! After trying on what felt like a million and dismissing them for being too dark, too big, wrong style yadda yadda, I bought This from Oasis. It's a lovely bright navy and gives me the structure that I need.It is much nicer in the flesh than on the website, the buttons aren't quite as in your face.

I also found some grey trousers and bought a Revlon Kiss me Coral lipstick which I love. All in all a successful shopping trip, just when I had decided to hibernate until spring Grin
