HoC Spring thread....

BeginnerSAHM · 12/08/2013 19:00

This is a thread for all of us who have had their colours done' by House of Colour and are a Spring. (And 'believe' in it...Wink.) Or, by CMB and are 'clear and warm'. Think a few other CMB catergories might be spring too - 'soft and warm' maybe/' warm and clear' (different from 'clear and warm' because of the order of priorities/dominance...)?

Feel free to ask any Spring-related fashion/make-up/style questions on this thread.... (I won't know the answer but lots of people on these boards will!)

So, I'll start with a 'spring' question.... I never wear lipstick. I occasionally wear neutral-ish lipgloss on a night out but never reapply during the evening so it's always gone within the first 20 mins. I know as a spring, I 'should'. Can anybody suggest a Revlon lip butter that is springish? I gather they are more sheer than full lipstick so might be a good way for me to start trying lip colour out! Thank you

I'm in the same boat Sugar.
Lots of good condition, hardly worn, expensive black stuff in my wardrobe too. It's the thing to wear for best effect in my line of work, always stood out, especially in America, compared to what some wear & never clashed.
I'm going to jazz it up with bright tops under jackets, scarves & jewellery. There's not much choice in the shops at the moment though. I'm finding.

I've tried to buy that Revlon lipstick. Not one of my local Revlon stockists has that colour! Don't really want to buy online without seeing it first.

Fooogle · 08/10/2013 19:46

Hi folks
Well, managed fairly springy today. Peachy blouse, navy weave trousers and pretty bright orangey coral lippy bought for 2.50 on HoC sale page.Aque you have more restraint than me buying lipsticks sight unseen is a terrible fooogle failing.
I was naughty and went to tk maxx and bought a Reiss blouse (15£!) in kind of flamingo with tomato red collar... It's silk but noticed tiny hole on getting home
[hmmm], explains price! and a peachy coloured leather biker jacket... I must be mad. Shouldn't have spent the money either (was 46£ so cheap for leather but... [hmmm]). Can anyone possibly pull off a peach leather jacket????
Or will I be in the returns queue on Saturday...
Suga, I know what you mean about black... Can you eBay it and swap for a better colour??

I'm on the lookout for a kind of burnt terracotta type coloured coat I reckon... Not much hope! Or camel coloured? should use money from leather jacket shouldn't I

Aquelven · 08/10/2013 20:22

That sounds amazing Fooogle, what a lucky TKMaxx trawl Smile...£46, it would have been rude not to! !

I'm lusting after a leather biker jacket, just have to talk myself out of black Blush. My ancient grey one is very much past it's best & I look awful in brown.
Most times I call in my local TKMAXX there's no brands of clothes I've ever heard of to be found & quite a lot of tat. Usually end up buying household & dog stuff with an occasional lucky find in accessories.

alemci · 08/10/2013 21:01

BirdyBedtime · 08/10/2013 21:12

joycey good plan doing tues Smile and nice blazer.
Congrats alemci! Great news.
birdy I really like the blouse, have several oasis blouses now after buying in the sale once and feeling really smart compared to my default long sleeve cotton t. Liked not ironing it too!
Aque I got the lippy in superdrug but tried it in a bigger boots they just had no stock? Def feeling its not got quite the definition my mad orange one has but it's good for shy days... Wink
Fantasised in tk maxx about being a dedicated spring bargain hunter for others, how shall I run that business [hmmm]? think it could work?! Grin

Gillybobs · 09/10/2013 04:39

Lovely news Alemci, congrats

joycey you make me laugh, do you know I would NEVER leave the house without a scarf and lippy...no not never! ( I'm a HoC classic Wink )

Flying home from USA tomorrow, looking forward to wearing new purchases. As well as the bright blue merino crew neck from j crew also got a navy cotton mix sweater from banana republic and a lightweight grey sweatshirt from US company Loft which has gold thread embroidered through the front. It's a bit different! Also picked up some bargainous makeup from clinique and revlon. 2.50 for revlon nail polish here! Not forgetting my super cheap j crew statement necklace in gold and coral which should brighten up my three new sweaters.
Oh and I found a pair of those Not your Daughters jeans for fifty dollars! Man they are gooood. And man do I need their holdy in qualities after two weeks of eating like a pig.

Aquelven · 09/10/2013 15:38

Hopefully
Could you please clarify something for us?
I notice that on the recent Natural Ingenue thread on the first page of S&B you say, quote...

"Ooh, how interesting! I suspect my mother is a Natural Ingenue, but doubt she would ever do the style day, even though I will hopefully be training as a consultant at some point."

On your posts on our thread you've said, quote....
"
Aque we are draped extensively during training to demonstrate, make sure our season categorisation is absolutely correct (eg blue spring) and practise on each other, so we are all pretty certain by the time we are trained! I have attempted to re-rate myself, but it's too fiddly and difficult to do yourself, I have decided.

And..

But in short, I totally would recommend it. It's the best job ever. Never going to make me a millionaire, but amazing, and I meet so many fascinating people."

I don't understand how the first post, saying that hopefully you will be training as a consultant at some point equates with the others where you talk about doing the job.
I was under the impression that you were already a trained, experienced consultant. Is this not the case?

alemci · 09/10/2013 16:30

thanks Gilly

hope you are not too jet lagged, sounds like you got some great bargains. I like shopping in the USA but you have to sift and have time. not always easy when you have DH and DS one step behind you.

where did you find NMD Jeans btw

Hopefully · 09/10/2013 17:17

Aque marrying to remember when/where I said that about my mother! I'm a trained consultant, colour, makeup and style, but only finished the last bit of my style training a year ago. Was it before then? Or maybe I was trying to say something else and typo'd?

Hopefully · 09/10/2013 17:18

Marrying?! Trying!

Hopefully · 09/10/2013 17:24

Ah, found it. The recent post by somebody else is a resurrection of an old thread from just before I trained.

alemci · 09/10/2013 17:53

is it just me or is the site very slow today

Gillybobs · 09/10/2013 19:08

Alemci I found them in tk maxx (tj maxx over here)

Gillybobs · 09/10/2013 19:09

Meant to say Hopefully, I enjoy your blog, you should post more often :-) I copied your Bertie loafers and adore then

BeginnerSAHM · 09/10/2013 20:14

Ooh - where's your blog hopefully??

OP posts:
Joycey29 · 09/10/2013 22:05

Evening all! Coaching rugby today so no scarf or lippy! Back to it tomorrow!
Glad you had a great time Gilly!

hollyisalovelyname · 10/10/2013 00:04

Suggestions please for a lipstick or lip hloss that suits a Spring but is not too orange ( which makes my treth look hellow). I tried the Mac ones but they were too orangy. Thanks in advance.
