HoC Spring thread....

BeginnerSAHM · 12/08/2013 19:00

This is a thread for all of us who have had their colours done' by House of Colour and are a Spring. (And 'believe' in it...Wink.) Or, by CMB and are 'clear and warm'. Think a few other CMB catergories might be spring too - 'soft and warm' maybe/' warm and clear' (different from 'clear and warm' because of the order of priorities/dominance...)?

Feel free to ask any Spring-related fashion/make-up/style questions on this thread.... (I won't know the answer but lots of people on these boards will!)

So, I'll start with a 'spring' question.... I never wear lipstick. I occasionally wear neutral-ish lipgloss on a night out but never reapply during the evening so it's always gone within the first 20 mins. I know as a spring, I 'should'. Can anybody suggest a Revlon lip butter that is springish? I gather they are more sheer than full lipstick so might be a good way for me to start trying lip colour out! Thank you

Evening Springs.
Love that F&F jumper in the bright blue Wools - such a great price too.
Been on a bit of a spend after payday - gulp! Hoping it's all Spring like, trying to stay away from black (biker jacket lust too Aquelven). So far have bought this week;
joules blouse and tunic.
Clark's shoe boot in tan.
My birthday present finally arrived from DH [[
www.peonyandmoore.com/product_info.php?cPath=0_12&products_id=166 Peony & Moore handbag]] which is perfect and I totally love already.
So feel quite spoilt and have spent too much - no more til New Year sales now like that's gonna happen.
Except I need new glasses - loving the cats eye styles around at the moment and fancy a poppy red pair - although DD said I looked like a mad cat lady when I tried some on in the opticians today!
Anyone seen any suitable Spring shade glasses around? I'm Blue Spring so the brighter the better!

wools · 04/10/2013 08:40

Good call Aquelven - will hold off buying until Tesco discount it a bit. Not that it's that expensive but every little helps. The blue is lovely but I have so many blue jumpers I can't justify another one - maybe if it goes into the sale.

BeginnerSAHM - I actually prefer the longer length style as I like to wear it in a sloppy, oversized boyfriend way and I love grey.

Hi all - just seen this thread!! I am spring and wear a lot of aqua ,grey, petrol ,raspberry, and kelly green and emerald

.I have terrible difficulty wearing dressess at this time of year which are spring colours - such as the vintage blue /green dress from boden -which have no neutral colours in them to put neautral tights of black ,grey or brown with.
means that my dressess are not getting worn much- i tend to wear spring season dressess with cardis .- as i cant get tights to tone with them.for eg if i wore the boden blue and green dress with green cardi back tights would kill the outfit, brown doesnt go ,nor grey or navy.Ive seen lots of opeuque tights on e bay in petrol and soft petrol which may go..but im afraid of looking too colourful !! eg emerald dress with green tihts ;match too tooo too much !!! Any ideas or tips for tights for spring tone frocks all year round.Ive seen raspberry- too much ?? taupe? highland green - fab colours but dont wnat to loon bonkers.I have aurburn hair ,pale skin ,5 2" and youngish looking late forties. My Style is nod to vintgage - shift dressess and cardis or real vintage.Trouses dont really suit my look !!rant rant!!

sugar4eva · 04/10/2013 10:56

PLEASE excuse typing - was dusting at same time !!!

Fooogle · 04/10/2013 11:43

Hi again
Yeah I'm not sure about tights. I want to wear more dresses but find I'm lazy! Could you do grey? Don't know what footwear you have?
Just got some turquoise shoes from topshop which I'm not sure if with coloured tights they'll be a step too far!?

Just also got makeup recommended via photo from Jane fardon... They were summer colours??? Could my previous spring be wrong? I wear a lot if yellow which thought looked good but maybe I'm deluded. Anyone else tried that service?

sugar4eva · 04/10/2013 13:20

Foogle - what will you wear with the turq shoes tights wise...??I do do grey tights the are fab - but what to wear with green and blue mix dressess?? that s what i have got loads of in w robe those colours mixed togther i just love - ive only got brown and balck shoes exept for some gren balet pumps....gave away some teal shoes arrrrgh !!!!jones the bootmaker as well - what was i thinking!!!!!! need gray t bars and green shoes !!
Ive contacted jane fardon for lippy this am - she must be busy as result this thread !!!!!will let you know .....

Aquelven · 04/10/2013 13:45

Hi Sugar, glad you found us.
Not sure about tights. Could you just play safe & match them to your shoes. They say it makes your legs look longer Grin which would appeal to me being another shorty at 5'1" with the same sort of body shape.
I don't do dresses much either to have much experience. I have half a dozen lurking in my wardrobe but as I spend my life with dogs they involve too much..." Get down ...ouch, ouch ouch!" Confused

Foogle I've never tried Jane Fardon never heard of her but perhaps colour doesn't translate very accurately via photo, especially over the web.

Hopefully · 04/10/2013 14:03

Apologies for barging into your lovely Spring thread! I'm a HoC consultant (Autumn, as it happens) and hunting down ideas for a newly diagnosed Spring client Grin.

Anyway, Foogle I just wanted today if you've had your colours done and had confidence in them at the time, don't believe any make up recommendations done by photo. I look like I'm going to be a Winter (pale skin, very dark hair, bright eyes), but am an autumn. Analysis by photo just isn't possible. If it was a while ago that you had your colours done, you could always go for a re-rate (£45 with HoC).

Hopefully · 04/10/2013 14:04

To say, not today!

Aquelven · 04/10/2013 18:31

Don't apologise for barging in, Hopefully. You're very welcome on here, Autumn or not. You're a consultant !!!!! Grin Can we pick your brains??!
just as a ransom for sneaking into here while we hold you hostage Grin

Joycey29 · 04/10/2013 18:49

The weekend is here so I m looking forward to having time to put into creating outfits from my streamlined wardrobe.
My budget is 0 so am going to have to work with what I now have.

Fooogle · 04/10/2013 19:44

Thanks Hopefully. Yes, I did have confidence in the colours at the time. My mum's a summer and wears lots of pastels and I don't think I suit those...

Just been to town today. Had a good charity shop rummage and found a Kelly green cashmere jumper for £3.50 so v pleased! It's a man's jaeger one [grins]. Also a brown corduroy skirt and a peach gap jumper. A happy shopper. I can't resist charity shops!
Looked at boots on Office and saw some grey suede ones if anyone's looking... 'Uncanny' is the product name...

Ordered Jane fardon samples so will see how they go!

Also bought tutti fruiti lip butter. Is it 'us'? Tried runway coral but was too scared of it on me. Think tutti fruiti a bit tame but...

Fooogle · 04/10/2013 19:47

Sugar, re turquoise shoes... I'm not sure! I'm a bit of a muddle vintage dresser so was thinking maybe grey tights and...erm?! May go back though! Bought topshop boots in tan too but not too impressed sadly.

Aquelven · 04/10/2013 19:51

I haven't tried tutti fruiti, is it a coral?
Well done on the charity shop, brilliant! I don't know where prople find this good stuff in charity shops, our local ones are full of Primark cast offs & very tatty worn stuff with holes.

Aquelven · 04/10/2013 19:52

People, not prople....when will MN get round to installing an edit function!

Gillybobs · 04/10/2013 20:01

Ladies does anyone have any good Clinique make up recommendations, it's ridiculously cheap in the USA so hoping to stock up? TIA

wools · 04/10/2013 20:29

Fooogle - I've got Tutti Frutti. I sometimes wear it with another lipstick underneath either a pink or red. I love it.

Aquelven · 04/10/2013 21:42

Gilly, I love their gel liner in the smoky grey option. It's not a true, true grey, more of a gey mixed with brown, lovely soft but deep flattering colour. It doesn't go hard in the pot like the Bobbi Brown ones do, comes with it's own little brush & not expensive. There's black as well if you prefer that.
The chubby stick lipsticks & chubby stick eyeshadows, City Block, double ended brow pencil & powder compact type foundations are all pretty good too. Not tried the liquid foundations or lipsticks.

Hopefully · 04/10/2013 21:47

Aquelven always happy to have my brain picked! I pop in and out of all the season threads every few days to steal ideas get inspiration for my clients.

Joycey29 · 04/10/2013 22:22

My pjs have a coral top - does that count???

Fooogle · 04/10/2013 23:54

Aque there was a lot of primark stuff in these ones. I do spend way to long looking so guess I found the only cashmere jumper in the town Grin

Wools tutti fruiti over stuff sounds like a good idea... Still hunting for the holy grail which doesn't make me look like I've stuck on comedy neon lips but is a bit more than that tutti fruiti safe tinge!

Goodness...I'm learning a lot whilst my baby nearly two year old wakes loads every night...!

Gillybobs · 05/10/2013 01:32

Aquelven, thanks so much, some great ideas. Picked up a chubby stick the other day, peony?? , fab bright pink, definitely a bright spring pink but really packs a punch

Aquelven · 05/10/2013 08:58

Gilly, I haven't seen that one. I have a couple but not really Spring colours, bought them before & hardly worn as love the texture & idea of them but not thrilled with the colours....oh the money I've wasted on makeup, hardly used & stuck in a drawer as too guilty to chuck Blush
I have got the lip butter in Wild Watermelon which I think is good for us.

Hopefully, thanks for the offer of brain picking, seems a fair swap if you're raiding our threads for ideas eh? Grin
Can you tell me please, what are the different types of Spring at HoC? I know I'm a Blue but as the other people on my day were different seasons(Autumn & Summer) got no idea of the other Springs. Is which you are just a matter of which are your best colours within the main book of swatches? With each of the types, are there any colours where each could push the colours further, towards other seasons for instance?
Being Blue Spring seems to be less warm, pushing neutral, does that mean we could get away with some Summer or Winter shades?

Hopefully · 05/10/2013 09:20

Aque the main types of spring are a Paintbox Spring (* in the brightest, boldest colours in the palette, the brightest red, the strongest green, the brightest blue etc etc - think box of paints), Pastel Spring ( in the softer end of the palette - the pale pinks, light dove grey, lightest blues, pale beiges), a Golden Spring (can look like they're going to be an autumn, often spend a long time going between spring and autumn, in the golden colours such as terracotta, the yellows, kerry green, tan, chocolate etc) and a Blue Spring (often initially difficult to work out between warm and cool, as their colouring isn't very very warm - * in the blues, leaf green, the purples and the aquas). I am a Blue Autumn, which is the Autumn version of a Blue Spring, incidentally.

Hopefully · 05/10/2013 09:21

Ooh, not sure what all that bold is! Was trying to note down the double star colours!
