HoC Spring thread....

BeginnerSAHM · 12/08/2013 19:00

This is a thread for all of us who have had their colours done' by House of Colour and are a Spring. (And 'believe' in it...Wink.) Or, by CMB and are 'clear and warm'. Think a few other CMB catergories might be spring too - 'soft and warm' maybe/' warm and clear' (different from 'clear and warm' because of the order of priorities/dominance...)?

Feel free to ask any Spring-related fashion/make-up/style questions on this thread.... (I won't know the answer but lots of people on these boards will!)

So, I'll start with a 'spring' question.... I never wear lipstick. I occasionally wear neutral-ish lipgloss on a night out but never reapply during the evening so it's always gone within the first 20 mins. I know as a spring, I 'should'. Can anybody suggest a Revlon lip butter that is springish? I gather they are more sheer than full lipstick so might be a good way for me to start trying lip colour out! Thank you

I think I may be a blue spring or wish to be. with cmb I was diagnosed as a light spring flowing into summer. my eyes are bluey grey and hair naturally light brown with fair skin. I need colour by my face and not too pastelly.

I tend to wear aqua, turquoise, blues, teal warm pinks, watermelon

BeginnerSAHM · 05/10/2013 10:41

Gah - from that Hopefully, I could be any spring other than a pastel one... Pretty sure I'm a blue spring though (despite the double star tan anomaly that my consultant gave me).... Got double stars for leaf green AND Kelly green.... Hmmmmmmmm

Thank you Hopefully, that's really interesting.
Explains why I spent weeks s routinising my veins & still couldn't decide if they were green or blue Confused if it's difficult to decide if we're warm or cool. And why I'd pretty much convinced myself I was a light summer.
Must say my consultant seemed to see it very quickly though, kept saying to the others watching...'see it, yeah?". She has been doing it for about twenty years so draped lots of people.

I need to get a bit more adventurous though. Since my day everything I've bought has been navy, turquoise in various depths of shade, & blues so now I find I'm beginning to look a bit monochrome which I don't think is the idea at all! I'm finding it hard to actually buy other colours.

Hopefully · 05/10/2013 11:26

It's not absolutely precise as a list, and can depend on the shades of make up etc that the consultant thinks works best I you too. For example, I'm a blue autumn, so best in all the teals, purples, forest greens etc, but have a couple of random double stars on things like bright orange and moss, which are vibrant autumn colours. But it's a good place to start.

Hopefully · 05/10/2013 11:29

Aque we're trained to spot the issues with analysing a blue spring very quickly, but those who are less extreme warm/cool tend to be those who have always struggled to work it out/been analysed wrong and been unhappy by other companies with more simplistic methods. There are blue based equivalents too - brown summer and burnished winter.

Aquelven · 05/10/2013 11:46

That's really interesting. My consultant said she is a Brown Summer.
Does that mean us oddities can wear some colours from the other palettes? Eg Blue Spring/Autumn can get away with some cool Winter/Summer colours? I have a few things in my wardrobe that I love & am reluctant to part with, a pale blue suede jacket for instance & a few pale pink things like cashmere. Another colour I've always worn, loved & thought suited me is dark bottle/forest green. I have a suede trenchcoat in it.

Hopefully · 05/10/2013 11:57

Not really. It might mean it's less awful on you than it might be on eg a golden spring, but it's still not going to look (a) as good with your skintone and (b) as in harmony/expensive as part of your outfits, because it doesn't come from the same palette.

wools · 05/10/2013 11:57

Thanks for all that Hopefully - it's great to have an expert explain things so clearly.

alemci · 05/10/2013 13:03

Aqualeven, could you ebay some of your make up if you have literally only tried it out?

Aquelven · 05/10/2013 13:23

Never sold on eBay, find it a bit daunting trying to fathom out how plus all the posting off, though I have bought an occasional something to do with a hobby that's hard to source supplies for.
Before the bin men came this week I gritted my teeth & threw in a whole load of things in the wrong colours, Estée Lauder, Dior, Chanel, YSL stuff amongst it sob Sad

Fooogle · 05/10/2013 13:24

Hopefully, so does that mean if you suit coral, turquoise, tan and navy as primary colours you're more of a blue spring?

I was a 'warm' spring in cmb terms but lost the thing the last gave me of my 'best' colours but think these were those... Maybe it's not so easy to swap between them...

Also. Does the contrast in your skin/hair/eyes play into how contrasty your clothes should be? Ie browny hair dark blue eyes and pale to mid skin = not too many contrasts in clothes but more toning hues?

Fooogle · 05/10/2013 13:51

Sorry think cross posted with lots of you with my rather simplistic and unclear question! Bit annoyed now I didn't know about HoC as could do with a bit more detail. Kind of just thought I could wear all the colours but guessing some are not great...but not sure which!
Great to hear all your detail Hopefully

Aquelven · 05/10/2013 15:16

I was wondering that too, about the contrasty thing, Fooogle. I have little contrast as well, pale skin, hair so blonde it looks white in most lights, turquoise eyes, all the same colour virtually Sad. My Blue Spring consultation said the tan shades were my worst ones, which you say are good on you, if that's any help. Perhaps Hopefully could advise us?

Gillybobs · 05/10/2013 15:57

One thing I'd love to ask Hopefully if you don't mind! why don't we get more guidance from hoC on what the sub season types mean? I know more than twenty people who've been to Hoc and none of them got any guidance on how to use their palette to best suite their type. EG I was told I was paintbox but not what that actually means to me and how I put outfits together. I've had to read countless articles by the 12blueprints lady to get a handle on my need for contrast in outfits. I was told to wear two colours plus a splash of a third but that just doesn't work on me. I need high contrast. Any thoughts?

alemci · 05/10/2013 16:36

i know its a mean feat but perhaps we should all get together in the flesh so to speak and bring swatches etc and compare notes. maybe a bit pie in the sky but it is hard on forums.

jumpinghoops · 05/10/2013 16:53

I have booked my style day, very excited. Not until the beg. of November but so looking forward to it Grin Until then am madly pinning but sitting on my hands to avoid buying anything.

Aquelven · 05/10/2013 17:28

I find the 12blueprints site fascinating but hard to equate to the HoC sub seasons, so get confused. She seems to use a different system, is it CMB or something else?
I do agree Gilly about not being given enough guidance on what the sub seasons actually mean for us personally & how to put them into practice.

Aquelven · 05/10/2013 17:32

How exciting, Jumping. I'm longing to do the style day put can't, practically, yet. Also find the idea of having to strip down to undies in front of strangers a bit daunting....especially if they're like the crowd of spectators who attended with the other women girls really that shared my colours day Blush

MoleInaComa · 05/10/2013 18:39

I had my colours done recently but not by house of colour. Was told I suit 'muted pastels'. Does anyone please know what season that would make me in HoC?

Fooogle · 05/10/2013 19:27

Hi mole, perhaps a summer? My mum wears pastels and is a summer but also can do muted brighter things like purple etc?... May be wrong though!

jumpinghoops · 05/10/2013 20:16

You have to strip down to underwear?!? Blimey, that might be the push I need to crack on with the shred Shock. We havent got into the nitty gritty of what I have to do/take yet. I'm with you on the confusion re. subsections of seasons. Specifically having read the 12 seasons website, I cant actually see how I fit the profile of a bright spring as I have much lower contrast than is written about there but my HoC consultant was quite sure this was what I was.

ebaymad · 05/10/2013 21:07

Stripping down to underwear? surely not? Shock

BirdyBedtime · 05/10/2013 21:41

Evening all and welcome Hopefully. I was tidying out today and found my notes -so I'm actually a golden spring which explains why some of my best colours feel autumny -like the rusty orange that I love.

Also then if you are a blue spring Beginner (sorry can't remember) then that scarf you were looking at would be perfect.

So i bought the Monsoon dress and it's fab - such a good fit. The red is actually rust orange so looked good but I already have a dress that colour so went for the teal. Would def recommend it if anyone is looking for a jumper dress.

On the tights question I wear brown, navy or charcoal although sometimes navy doesn't feel quite right. I also have a petrol pair and a kerry green pair but I have to be feeling really brave to wear those and do feel very conspicuous. It's leggings I struggle to find. I have one brown pair and a navy pair but would love a good charcoal pair. There are loads of sites with wider colour selections on ebay but all seem to be nylon and I prefer cotton/lycra ones.

Fooogle · 05/10/2013 21:57

At risk of sounding like I'm endlessly shopping (sorry! Blush)
I bought some possibly daft Chelsea boots in....drum roll... Kind if rosey gold! Called parrotia pewter (cant link as sold out). Reduced in houSe of f today And some converse in a blue (not quite navy) leather from office, reduced too. They had a brown pair too, wonder if should have gone mad and got both as would add up to one 'normal' pair...
How do you folk wear converse? And Chelsea boots? Must be an aspect of dramatic or is it ingenue with my magpie metallic tendencies [hmmm]
Also bought a lippy in lovers coral from Revlon... Corally pink. Anyone tried it?

Fooogle · 05/10/2013 22:05

Hi all
birdy I had some leggings from sainos which I quite liked just in black but notice they had two pairs to buy together in navy and think grey or may have been black and grey. Whatever combination I was sorely tempted to switch it to get two 'useful' colours at once but only £10 either way. They're not the thickest but they looked nice and neat under dresses...
Tights...hmmm, what ll I wear with blue converse? Guess I need some navy too..

Wondering if the warm spring CMB correlates with a golden spring with HoC... Think I may verge on the autumn palettes too...sister in law is an autumn and we share some colours...
