HoC Spring thread....

BeginnerSAHM · 12/08/2013 19:00

This is a thread for all of us who have had their colours done' by House of Colour and are a Spring. (And 'believe' in it...Wink.) Or, by CMB and are 'clear and warm'. Think a few other CMB catergories might be spring too - 'soft and warm' maybe/' warm and clear' (different from 'clear and warm' because of the order of priorities/dominance...)?

Feel free to ask any Spring-related fashion/make-up/style questions on this thread.... (I won't know the answer but lots of people on these boards will!)

So, I'll start with a 'spring' question.... I never wear lipstick. I occasionally wear neutral-ish lipgloss on a night out but never reapply during the evening so it's always gone within the first 20 mins. I know as a spring, I 'should'. Can anybody suggest a Revlon lip butter that is springish? I gather they are more sheer than full lipstick so might be a good way for me to start trying lip colour out! Thank you

ESSIE ? Never heard of them? Where do I get them?

Gillybobs · 16/09/2013 19:03

Boots

BeginnerSAHM · 16/09/2013 21:26

To throw a spanner in the works, I LOVE Essie colours but OPI tends to last a bit longer. On me anyway.

Gillybobs · 17/09/2013 08:16

Interesting. I find Essie lasts well compared to Chanel, mavala etc but haven't tried OPI
I'm off to Florida with Dh and both ds next week, I cannot tell you how stressful it is packing for a super hot holiday (ie, show some skin) when you've weight to lose : ( I'm spending my AW budget on clothes I'll probablY never wear again

Joycey29 · 17/09/2013 10:06

Gillybobs- EBay is a wonderful thing!! Wink

BeginnerSAHM · 17/09/2013 10:20

Wow Gillybobs! Enjoy Grin! Maybe stick to cheap basics and more expensive accessories/scarves?! If it's hot, you can get away with just vests/t-shirts and light trousers/skirts plus sandals? Highly recommend Gap for basics. Have you tried their skinny minnies (trousers). Think that's what they are called. There should be some summer stuff left in the sale... No expensive cashmere or jackets/coats needed!! Actually, you could get an amazing pashmina in a perfect colour - and wear it as a scarf in the winter and as a wrap next spring/summer?

So jealous that you'll be seeing some sunshine! You'll have a great time.

Gillybobs · 17/09/2013 12:55

I think it's going to be too hot even for trousers which is a NIGHTMARE : )

I've picked up nice lightweight vests from Boden in bright blue, coral, grey and yellow

www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Tops-T-shirts/Sleeveless-Tops/WL716/Womens-Lightweight-Vest.html

And some slightly smarter vests in slinky jersey from Gap. Three pairs of shorts and some cotton dresses for day, a maxi and a silky knee length dress for smarter. I also picked up two lightweight cotton maxi skirts from BHS of all places that transform from skirts to bandeau dresses and are just genius !

I'll just be avoiding the camera as I hate myself in holiday snaps ....I'll be designating myself official photographer

alemci · 17/09/2013 13:28

the good thing about Florida is anything goes. spend my time trying not to burn.

some of their clothes are ok and cheaper.

BeginnerSAHM · 17/09/2013 14:54

Sounds like you have a lovely holiday wardrobe!! You'll look fab. I spent the hot summer here wearing shorts for the first time ever... I seem to have stopped worrying about my fat thighs! Heh. (Thread veins not v pretty though - ah well Hmm.)

Have a great holiday, Gillybobs. Think about us shivering in the rain, it's been horrible up here this week.

Talking about nail polish.
I don't find Essie lasts on me. I like Nails Inc, great range of colours & last really well, especially if you use their Caviar Top Coat. The bottles usually cost £11 each but QVC sell sets much cheaper. If anyone is interested they are selling a set of seven different colours as a TSV for £24.96 this Thursday. These are the colours in the set...

BeginnerSAHM · 17/09/2013 16:25

p.s. cardoon - if it doesn't arrive, I have another mac one or bobbi brown one you can try that's not as good for me as HOC 55. they are reds though - warm or neutral though... Hope it gets there though Confused

Just to say I've just booked in for colour and style on Saturday. Am so excited!

Does anyone have any advice of questions I should ask. Since reading this thread I've bought a load of lipsticks which I'll take (latest is a bright pink Mia for £1 in superdrug!)

Also interested in jewellry & accessories til I lose some weight. I like to wear fine jewellry -rings particularly, so not sure how this works with wearing coloured nail varnish.

Any advice on style questions also would be great.

Tia-Evelyn

Aquelven · 17/09/2013 18:33

I'm sure you'll love it,Evelyn. A bit of time for yourself for a change, with such a young baby to look after!
Are you having the style done as well? I haven't done that yet.
Do you know if there'll be others there? If so, make sure you get a good seat to watch them bring draped. It really helps you " see" what they're getting at when you can watch the difference it makes to someone else's skin. It's often more obvious than on yourself who you're so used to looking at in the mirror.
She'll give you a lot of information anyway, not leave much to question. It's really great how, once she's gone through the first draping to find your season, she goes through all the drapes again to find how best for you go use each colour. She gets one of the others to mark down in your little booklet which are your two star, one star, one tick etc colours & explains what each grading means for you.

She'll put makeup on you too. It's worth buying one of the recommended lipsticks. I'd suggest getting the one you thought the scariest, usually the red, as I bet you love it once you get over the shock & it gives you a reference colour for buying in the shops.

I hope you are Spring, then you can come back on here with us Grin
But please pop back & tell us what you are if something different, love to know what you thought of the day.

Gillybobs · 17/09/2013 19:59

I've never heard of getting colours and style done on the same day! Is it House of Colour Evelyn? That's going to be an intense day! Take a note pad

My consultant was great after my style day, happy to respond to email questions, IMO you will think of loads of questions after the fact. Don't worry too much, just relax and enjoy your day

evelynj · 17/09/2013 21:23

Thanks-it's just me on my own-yes it's HOC, colour & style & should last from 10-3ish as she'll omit/skim over the work gear as I'm currently SAHM.

Like the idea of scariest lipstick, may do that & will defo take notepad. Hoping this pushes me to get rid of a lot of stuff that's been lurking in my wardrobe. Will be so upset if it turns out I'm not a spring! I'll report back.....

BeginnerSAHM · 19/09/2013 14:40

Hello springs! What do you think of these? My quest to buy as cheap-as-possible-but-good-quality/lasting biker boots continues.

Still like this pair from Dune though... They are nicer, aren't they Hmm? Twice the blinkin price...

OP posts:
Joycey29 · 19/09/2013 20:32

Evening Springs!
Like the M&S boots but love the dune ones!
Am madly saving to buy some as last boots are about to bite the dust!
Other than that not much happening in my world! Skint til the end of the month, so no shopping for me!
Happy to vicariously live through any of you who are shopping!Envy

Joycey29 · 19/09/2013 21:00

Beginner - check out Brantano.
Lots of boots and 40% code is EVERYTHING40

BeginnerSAHM · 19/09/2013 21:03

Thanks Joycey! Will do.

Have finally nailed this 'splash of bright colour' think with a snotty bright pink (geranium?) nose Blush. Looks nice with my grey jumper today.
