HoC Spring thread....

BeginnerSAHM · 12/08/2013 19:00

This is a thread for all of us who have had their colours done' by House of Colour and are a Spring. (And 'believe' in it...Wink.) Or, by CMB and are 'clear and warm'. Think a few other CMB catergories might be spring too - 'soft and warm' maybe/' warm and clear' (different from 'clear and warm' because of the order of priorities/dominance...)?

Feel free to ask any Spring-related fashion/make-up/style questions on this thread.... (I won't know the answer but lots of people on these boards will!)

So, I'll start with a 'spring' question.... I never wear lipstick. I occasionally wear neutral-ish lipgloss on a night out but never reapply during the evening so it's always gone within the first 20 mins. I know as a spring, I 'should'. Can anybody suggest a Revlon lip butter that is springish? I gather they are more sheer than full lipstick so might be a good way for me to start trying lip colour out! Thank you

This won't do Hmm
We're slipping off the page so I'm bumping us up.

Wearing today, grey/navy striped top, grey hoody, boring same black trousers. BUT , just one week today till I see the consultant to get the dressings off & the pins out of my foot. So then I can really start to get my wardrobe sorted & drive to the shops Grin

What neutral do you find yourself leaning to for basics like trousers? I need to start switching from black. Was thinking navy or grey but are there others you've found work?

Gillybobs · 12/09/2013 11:34

I stick with navy and grey, the browns/creams just don't work for me as Im a Bright spring (and therefore leaning towards cooler end of palette). I do like brown boots and bags though as an alternative black in winter

Ive just ordered a little casual weekend bag from boden to go with my new navy wool jacket from there. Its a bit "fun" I know, I usually avoid their prints, but I love the colours and size of it for hanging around with my boys and my dogs at the weekend. Am I insane??

Drat - just lost a long post!!

Well done for the bump Aquelven. Gillybobs - bag v bright spring and not in-your-face Boden! Like it.

I'm wearing:

Old M&S navy jumper dress

Dark turquoise/sea green scarf with 'spring bright' flowers and the odd blue butterfly

Black leggings

Black ankle brogue boots (think 3 years old from whistles)

Need a work/networking outfit for tonight. (Trying to get a job and there's an 'event'... Bleughh Confused) All my black suits are too much (and not spring-ish, although don't care too much about that at the moment). Probably will do smartish trousers (navy or charcoal) and smartish top with LK Bennett kitten heels (nude or black patent).

I do a lot of grey and some browns for trousers. I just don't like light colours below the waist on my shape, although I did have some stone summer capris which were good, but definitely needed a tunic style top to cover the bottom! For skirts I veer a bit more towards patterned (today am wearing a cream and red flowery patterned wrap skirt which I love but don't wear enought).

Aquelven · 12/09/2013 17:32

I'm not drawn much to brown either for bottoms mainly cos the colours that tend to go with it, creams, oranges, yellows are not great on me. I'm the cooler end too. I do like brown leather though & have a jacket, shoes, boots, bags etc.

Really like that bag, Gillybobs.
I have one very similar, but plain, by Kipling, that's great for going out with the dogs. Mine's a bit smaller & I keep it stuffed with plastic bags, kitchen roll, dog leads etc ready to grab & go with the addition of a few things like phone & purse.

wools · 12/09/2013 19:00

Just about caught up. Am in my comfy slob outfit but earlier was wearing a pinkish poppy colour silk shirt with grey skinnies and chocolate brown ankle boots. I bought the shirt a few months ago and have been saving it (goodness knows why) but met a friend for coffee and thought why not.

I also have been busying myself with sorting out my underwear and socks/ tights drawer - most gratifying it was too. I chucked loads of minging old stuff and feel much more ordered in my head. Tomorrow I'm going to tackle my make -up. I have loads and most of it I never wear. I'll clean all my make up brushes while I'm at it too.

Recent purchases have included toasty sheepskin slippers and this www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Knitwear/Jumpers/WK878/Womens-Merino-Crew-Jumper.html?NavGroupID=6

The pink is lovely in reality and matches the swatch book pink perfectly.

BeginnerSAHM · 12/09/2013 20:13

Love the jumper wools - and your daytime outfit sounds v cool...

Am currently on way home from work thing. Changed to charcoal grey cigarette trousers, red skinny leather belt, cream l/s t-shirt, pale grey cashmere long cardie, poppy red scarf with cream spots and whacked on red lipstick. (Black patent LK Bennett mid heels - not chucking out my work black shoes or suits!!)

Aquelven · 12/09/2013 20:28

Love that jumper, wool. I fancy the blue leopard print. The poppy silk shirt sounds gorgeous.
I'm lusting after a pair of Celtic sheepskin slippers. Got their boots last winter & they are so comfy & warm. I bought black but hey-ho Hmm

Joycey29 · 12/09/2013 21:32

Work ID photo today. Wore grey bootleg trousers, French navy jumper and a sea green scarf.
Also slapped on my new lippy!
Hopefully this year I won't look like death warmed up on my ID card!

GlassesDontSuitMe · 12/09/2013 23:44

Hello again springs! I have been lurking the last couple of weeks as I have been revamping my garden so only wearing old clothes and not doing any shopping. This last week I have been painting fences. I can confirm that nut brown is not a spring colour Grin

Today I escaped and went for a peruse around TK Maxx. I bought a lovely Osprey purple scarf reduced to £11, bargain! I also bought a bright blue merino cardigan which will go well with one of my favourite winter dresses. Saw lots of lovely, great colour knitwear but sadly not my size. I shall have to make a return visit, blast!

Beginner your outfit sounds lovely. I am envious of the cigarette pants. Having parsnip legs means I've never found any to fit.

Aquelven, a fellow knitter! I smiled about your adventures in the wool shop. Go for the Celtic slippers, they are gorgeous. I bought the clog style ones last year and they are the best thing I have ever bought, toasty feet for the first time ever and when I washed them they were like new, perfect.

Aquelven · 13/09/2013 09:21

They sound great finds, Glasses, I love a good rummage in TKMaxx Grin

Don't mention the garden! I'm dying to get stuck into mine, can see it going wild by the day, knee deep in weeds while I'm out of action.

I've been trawling websites in preparation for hitting the shops. Not keen on ordering clothes online, can't be hassled with all the sending back as fit is so random. Do you find that some shops, or catalogues, seem to be more geared to particular seasons colour wise? It's beginning to look that way to me. Found lots that seem to be mostly Winter or Summer colours, having problems finding Spring stuff. Perhaps it will be better when I can get out there into the shops proper. Only a week now Grin really, really missing being able to drive as I live a trek away from decent shops & no public transport.

Today I'm wearing turquoise top, grey cardigan, same boring black pants.

Aquelven · 13/09/2013 17:57

Well, having snooped on the Winter thread, I now know what Mac red lipsticks not to buy Grin

Joycey29 · 13/09/2013 21:15

Ok it's the weekend! Time for some style decisions ..... Except I m working all weekend! Boo!
Today I wore grey trousers, navyish jumper, chunky turquoise necklace!
I want your boots, Beginner!!Envy

BeginnerSAHM · 14/09/2013 11:48

Haven't bought the boots yet but they are the best I've found so far...Wink! Considering ugg kensingtons in brown too (can get into children's sizes) but think they might be a bit too chunky/mum boots. Hmmm.

Today, I'm wearing indigo skinny jeans, cream uniqlo heat tech t-shirt and pale grey cashmere cardie. I know I should have a 'splash' of colour but am getting annoyed wearing scarves! Grey slim converses got rather soggy this morning... Must get some comfy boots!!

OP posts:
Aquelven · 14/09/2013 14:23

What size do the children's ones go up to? No VAT on those.

Today I'm wearing navy trousers, not stylish, just pull on jersey ones as needs must. Deep turquoise cardigan, green top. Not sure about the colour mix but was trying the theory that all our colours should work together. Silver earrings, silver works for Blues.

BeginnerSAHM · 14/09/2013 16:41

They go up to a 5 Aquelven.

So, do you agree with the theory that all the spring colours go together Grin?? I like blues/greens/turquoises together anyway. Those colours look lovely with silver. I have platinum engagement/wedding/eternity rings so am definitely going to carry on wearing silver as well as gold. ('Allowed' to as a blue-ish spring but I would do anyway - obviously...Shock.)

OP posts:
Gillybobs · 14/09/2013 16:46

I agree that they do but that doesn't mean I'd actually WEAR any combo Grin

I've been concentrating on winter proofing my wardrobe this week. I work in the worlds coldest office and when I'm not in there I'm in freezing cold houses (yes, I'm an evil estate agent) so I really struggle in winter. Been buying fleece lined tights in grey from Top Shop and those heattech long sleeve tops from M and S in navy

In other news my new Clinique lippy in Runway Coral is my new fave. Great colour

Aquelven · 14/09/2013 17:34

Can hardly expect us to stop wearing such important jewelleryConfused

Fives eh? That's very interesting. I take fours Grin

I see, over on the winter thread, they've been dying their clothes.

BeginnerSAHM · 14/09/2013 18:14

Ah, but every natural fabric can be dyed black. Or navy. Wink

OP posts:
marzipananimal · 14/09/2013 18:41

I thought about dyeing white tops cream as cream is harder to find but it seemed a bit difficult. I once wore bright red trousers, peachy coral t-shirt and purple cardigan (was dressing up as a friend known for her wacky outfits) and although I'd never dare wear it normally, it actually looked great!

GlassesDontSuitMe · 14/09/2013 19:40

I have been having fun dyeing shoes with This. I changed some black ballet flats to tan and some tan heel to navy. They came out well. My next move is a bag.

Joycey29 · 14/09/2013 21:17

How do they look Glasses?
Pictures please!

Joycey29 · 16/09/2013 12:44

Ok - can we talk nail polish? All mine are currently grape or wine coloured!
Suggestions please.....

BeginnerSAHM · 16/09/2013 13:45

Hi Joycey - sorry, I don't have any nail varnish. If I treat myself to a pedicure I have v dark purple (rouge noir-ish) or bright red/coral on toes and clear on fingers. Or just a 'buff' on fingers. Not v exciting! Normally my nails scruffy and unpolished...

OP posts:
Gillybobs · 16/09/2013 15:18

ESSIE do loads of great colours, I have a couple of nice corals and reds and if you're adventurous they do some fab turquoise
