HoC Spring thread....

BeginnerSAHM · 12/08/2013 19:00

This is a thread for all of us who have had their colours done' by House of Colour and are a Spring. (And 'believe' in it...Wink.) Or, by CMB and are 'clear and warm'. Think a few other CMB catergories might be spring too - 'soft and warm' maybe/' warm and clear' (different from 'clear and warm' because of the order of priorities/dominance...)?

Feel free to ask any Spring-related fashion/make-up/style questions on this thread.... (I won't know the answer but lots of people on these boards will!)

So, I'll start with a 'spring' question.... I never wear lipstick. I occasionally wear neutral-ish lipgloss on a night out but never reapply during the evening so it's always gone within the first 20 mins. I know as a spring, I 'should'. Can anybody suggest a Revlon lip butter that is springish? I gather they are more sheer than full lipstick so might be a good way for me to start trying lip colour out! Thank you

sounds more like Autumn colours to me. could you be a spring flowing into autumn.

Aquelven · 07/09/2013 15:22

Yes, it sounds more autumn to me too.
One of the other women who was on my day was an autumn & your colouring sounds just like hers.
Very dark brown is not really a spring colour & russet, beige/brown, russet red are not even in my swatches. The navy that is actually in the spring swatches is a bright/light French navy, though I can get away with others.
You are definitely not a Blue Spring if you are a spring but don't know which other you could be, sorry.

jumpinghoops · 07/09/2013 15:29

Beginner, just saw that scarf in GAP, def a good spring one. Just tried a nice coral cashmere crew neck jumper in there too (is it possible to do links on iPhone? I don't know how to) but ended up buying just a pair of grey always skinny jeans.

educatingarti · 07/09/2013 15:33

I really think I am mainly a spring - I look good too in bright corals, limey and yellow greens - oh and also in very bright tomato red/orange but maybe I do flow into autumn. My sister who has some similarities ( but not exactly the same - similar hair but a bit darker, different eyes and a slightly darker skin tone) is an autumn flowing into winter.

wools · 07/09/2013 16:00

Jumping hoops -I saw that coral cashmere jumper yesterday. I loved it and want to buy but a bit expensive at £89. If you have the funds I would say definately go for it!!

Aquelven - I lurk on the other colour threads too and check out their links for possible spring colours.

BeginnerSAHM · 07/09/2013 16:32

Just a quickie but I don't think I look good in top to toe tan. In fact I hated it. Love it for accessories/shoes but that's it. My best colours (other than tan...) are two blues, Kerry and leaf green (I think) and a red and coral. And geranium pink plus one yellow.

She only gave me one star for bright navy but I'd give myself two Wink.

don't like tan particularly but like camel. I have a nice pair of wedges which are veering into tan but are not dark. tan reminds me of 70's America somehow.

Aquelven · 07/09/2013 17:45

I like it for leather bags, not much else though.

Aquelven · 07/09/2013 17:53

I need to buy some trainers.
I've never bought trainers before but been told it's the best thing to wear at first, while my foot settles down, when the rugby boot comes off my foot & pins out of my toes( ouch Shock) the week after next.
Anyone know about buying trainers, please? Soft ones with plenty of room near the toes, don't know where to start.... Now would they be best in grey, navy, coral, geranium........ Grin

jumpinghoops · 07/09/2013 19:34

Aquelven, again I'm sorry I can't lik on phone but have a look at the Nike Free Bionic trainers. Nike Free styles are generally very comfortable, I find them wide at the toe. And wouldn't you know there's a coral and dove grey pair Grin

BeginnerSAHM · 07/09/2013 22:37

Aquelven - are you allowed converse/supergra types or do they have to be proper trainers (that you can do sport in!!)?

cardoon · 07/09/2013 22:44

Beginner, did you get my PM re Jane Fardon?

Aquelven · 07/09/2013 23:36

Thank youjumpinghoops Smile
I'll go & look for those.

Beginner, I'm allowed anything that will work. Just been told I'll need something flat but supportive, comfortable, soft & enough space to get my foot into as it will still be bruised & liable to swell when I have to start putting weight on it. Just thought trainers sounded like the best bet.

Gillybobs · 08/09/2013 00:39

Superga are wide fitting, thick soles etc and come in fab colours...I have cream and navy leopard print. They are the closest thing I'll ever own to trainers!

BeginnerSAHM · 08/09/2013 07:32

Hi cardoon - yes but I can't reply on my phone.... Grrr! Sorry. Will reply later today and thank you!

Supergra look great for you then Aquelven! I have v narrow feet so wear the skinny converse sort (most of the time...Blush) but they are quite flimsy. Might try Supergra though!

Are there any websites that help you work out your personal style, and what works with your body shape etc? Basically want what I would learn on the style day but without paying for it!

Gillybobs · 08/09/2013 19:44

There's nothing online at all about the HoC styles, not sure why, believe me I looked and looked. Probably because it's quite an in-depth process and they don't want folk guessing at it rather than getting it done properly (& paying for it of course). I was fortunate enough to go along with three friends and it was fascinating to watch the diagnoses unfold.

Joycey29 · 10/09/2013 16:49

Today I wore a coral striped shirt dress with blue knee high boots! Loved knowing I looked goodGrin

Aquelven · 10/09/2013 18:50

Love the sound of blue boots, Joycey.
I really fancy a pair of knee high, navy blue suede boots.

Joycey29 · 10/09/2013 19:43

That's just what they were - bought last year from Clarkes a very posh shopWink

BeginnerSAHM · 11/09/2013 10:00

Morning all! Joycey - really pleased the colour thing seems to be working so well for you Grin.

I'm after waterproof comfortable boots for wet school runs/weekends in the park etc. I have wellies for when it's really muddy but want practical boots to wear mostly with skinny jeans but also with casual dresses and woolly tights.

What do you think of these from Dune?

I don't think I can quite pull off the 'lady' riding boot look - although I think it looks very chic. I've been trying to wear my Ash Nevada boots on the school run but they feel too high Blush. Love them for going out though.

Anyway, thoughts greatly appreciated.

Really don't want to do the style day at the moment as the stuff I'm getting through from HoC seems particularly dull/dowdy. But, maybe if I did, I'd feel less overwhelmed by the choice of 'looks'... Plus it's expensive! Could buy a lovely pair of winter boots for less than the cost of a style day.

OP posts:
Gillybobs · 11/09/2013 10:56

Don't be put off the style day by HoC and their utterly Crap marketing :-) my friends spent a year convincing me to go despite my reservations and I'm so glad I did. Remember, it's not about fashion or trends, it's about how to make them work for your body and your personality. Disregard their idea of fashion or you'll never go!!!! They're not offering a stylist service, that's the bit you need to get your head round I think. As for cost, think of what it will save you in unworn clothes

evelynj · 11/09/2013 11:17

Beginner-love those boots-may buy them myself as they are wiser than ankle/cowboy boots for winter.

Off to chase up hoc woman to get colours & style done.

I have bought 9 new bright lipsticks since reading This thread,(plus scarves & clothes), none of which I would have gone near before as I thought they were clown colours. I will be so devestated if it turns out I' not a spring as 'having permission' to wear these colourful lippies is so great!

Wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't jobless & living off maternity allowance & savings, eeek!

Joycey29 · 11/09/2013 21:11

Love those boots Beginner! They look just the thing! I am actually quite jealous! Envy
