HoC Spring thread....

BeginnerSAHM · 12/08/2013 19:00

This is a thread for all of us who have had their colours done' by House of Colour and are a Spring. (And 'believe' in it...Wink.) Or, by CMB and are 'clear and warm'. Think a few other CMB catergories might be spring too - 'soft and warm' maybe/' warm and clear' (different from 'clear and warm' because of the order of priorities/dominance...)?

Feel free to ask any Spring-related fashion/make-up/style questions on this thread.... (I won't know the answer but lots of people on these boards will!)

So, I'll start with a 'spring' question.... I never wear lipstick. I occasionally wear neutral-ish lipgloss on a night out but never reapply during the evening so it's always gone within the first 20 mins. I know as a spring, I 'should'. Can anybody suggest a Revlon lip butter that is springish? I gather they are more sheer than full lipstick so might be a good way for me to start trying lip colour out! Thank you

I know, Bridget has a lot to answer for! Certainly not going to say it again just smile and say Thank you Wink

alemci · 05/09/2013 12:24

found my CMB wallet in grey with Spring flowing into Summer anaylis (light). I always felt a bit self concious taking the colour wallet out but perhaps i need to get over that now.

I won't be buying much now but when I do I will be more discerning and try to buy the right colours. I do tend to know in my minds eye what the correct colours are to some extent.

Aquelven · 05/09/2013 15:33

Did I hear right? That there's a new Bridget Jones out? Might be a book though.
I was really self conscious at first, sneaking my wallet out to check things. But I've got quite blasé about it now Grin Was flashing it around in the wool shop the other day, checking yarn colours. It's actually easier when you can just have them all spread out & try the new item against them. It really clicks what the consultant said about not trying to match each exact colour but more just see if it blends into the whole range, & explains why the booklet says it isn't just thirty odd odours you can wear but hundreds.
Think having to juggle swatch book, shop's basket, balls of yarn & couple of crutches might have taken the edge off feeling self conscious. Grin

Hello, just joining in if I may Smile
I will read the thread from the beginning over the next couple of days.

Aquelven · 05/09/2013 16:32

Welcome Armadale. Glad you found us Smile

Armadale · 05/09/2013 16:37

thanks & thanks for the invite Smile

BeginnerSAHM · 05/09/2013 17:17

Hi Armadale! Glad you found us too Wink.

I went to buy Mac See Sheer and Crosswires today but came out with Ravishing (unicorn lady approved) and Vegas Volt (not approved). Will let you know how I get Ravishing is my attempt at a daytime lippy. Still prefer the more natural look but will give it a go!!

Aquelven · 05/09/2013 17:25

Do tell what you think of them, Beginner Smile
I'm in a real mood for new, flattering lipsticks. What steered you to those from Crosswires & See Sheer? I haven't seen any of them in the flesh yet. Mac involves a bit of trek for me as no local stockist.

wools · 05/09/2013 17:25

Welcome Armadale.
Back on the school run for me today. Wore coral capri trousers with navy striped top and my Kate Moss lippy. I was pleased with the look and got a few compliments too!!

alemci · 05/09/2013 17:48

lovely pattern aqua. will look good

BeginnerSAHM · 05/09/2013 18:41

Don't like Vegas Volt already HmmHmm. Paler than my natural lip colour (by a long way) and makes my teeth look yellow. Ravishing seems nice though. Chose them over the other two as the bloody assistant persuaded me - am so unsure of what looks good lipstick-wise that I don't trust my own judgment. Anyway, I might come round to Vegas Volt but I'm not sure...

Right, if anybody wants either, PM me with your address and I'll post them to you. Feel like a total idiot/middle aged mutton dressed as lamb (or a hyacinth bucket!) wearing them. I know they'll look great on most of you though Wink.

Vegas Volt is an orangey/coral. Should be good for stronger springs. Ravishing should be good for everybody (but not me!). £30 down the drain Hmm. Boo.

Beginner what a shame. I often find I can't really tell what a lipstick colour looks like in the shop under the artificial lighting. I need a bright natural light. The same with foundations - I have a drawer full of them due to crappy shop lighting.

BeginnerSAHM · 05/09/2013 19:15

Thanks wools! Yup, rooky error! Ah well... By the way - if anybody does want them they are free to a good home Smile.

Aquelven · 05/09/2013 19:41

The lighting in shops is terrible. Most foundations I buy end up stuck in a drawer till they get chucked out as very few make them pale enough & end up looking tangoed.
I thought you quite liked Ravishing? Can you not mix them with other wrong ones that are the opposite colours to make a wearable colour?
I get really fed up with finding the perfect colour only to have them discontinue it soon afterwards. Estée Lauder are a pain for that.

BeginnerSAHM · 05/09/2013 19:50

Changed my mind about ravishing Aquelven! Just not 'me' at all. Can only manage a mild stain/gloss or full on poppy red it seems Shock... Am definitely a 'weird spring'.

Can I join? I was inspired to buy two new lipsticks today. I bought clinique Golden Brandy which was recommended on her and I really like it. On a whim I also bought Runway Coral which is very bold but actually I think it really looks good. So pleased with my purchases-thanks everyone for the advice. I also wondered if someone could explain the three colour rule? Is it just that-wear three colours?

shopalot · 05/09/2013 20:41

Here not her......

Joycey29 · 05/09/2013 21:22

Welcome Shopalot and Wools. Another good day! French navy long dress, Kelly green wrap cardi and pewter shoes.Oh and my new lippy!!
Loving feeling in control of my wardrobe!

Joycey29 · 05/09/2013 21:23

I mean Armadale not Wools - blonde!

Aquelven · 05/09/2013 21:28

Welcome shopalot Smile

Those lipsticks sound promising!
I don't know the three colour rule. Think it might be something covered on the style day & I haven't done that yet.
Your outfit sounds lovely, Joycey, I love French Navy. I still need to get control of my wardrobe Blush

alemci · 05/09/2013 22:24

this thread is really helpful and I will definitely be trying to stick to my colours from now on.

Gillybobs · 05/09/2013 22:34

Vegas volt makes my teeth look yellow too, it's very hard to wear. I'm still shaking my pom poms for crosswires and see sheer. Invested in Clinique runway coral this week and it's kapow coral....not brilliant for my teeth but nowhere near as bad as Vegas volt

Gillybobs · 05/09/2013 22:36

Three colour rule should be mentioned at colour day, for paintbox or bRight springs I think the third colour should just be a splash, so probably an accessory.
