HoC Spring thread....

BeginnerSAHM · 12/08/2013 19:00

This is a thread for all of us who have had their colours done' by House of Colour and are a Spring. (And 'believe' in it...Wink.) Or, by CMB and are 'clear and warm'. Think a few other CMB catergories might be spring too - 'soft and warm' maybe/' warm and clear' (different from 'clear and warm' because of the order of priorities/dominance...)?

Feel free to ask any Spring-related fashion/make-up/style questions on this thread.... (I won't know the answer but lots of people on these boards will!)

So, I'll start with a 'spring' question.... I never wear lipstick. I occasionally wear neutral-ish lipgloss on a night out but never reapply during the evening so it's always gone within the first 20 mins. I know as a spring, I 'should'. Can anybody suggest a Revlon lip butter that is springish? I gather they are more sheer than full lipstick so might be a good way for me to start trying lip colour out! Thank you

Sounds right gillybobs... Don't think there is necessarily a direct 'translation'. Probably 'light, warm and clear' in current CMB terminology....

I have HOC lipstick 55 on at the moment (having pre-dinner drink waiting for DH at a hotel!) and love it - was terrifyingly bright at first. Think it's v poppy red but not sure of it's exact description

Sorry, mumelle. What I meant to say was that 606 was the red that the consultant sent me home in, not that it was the red for blue springs Blush
I like it so much that I ordered it the next day, never been able to wear reds before. I do intend to look for one in the shops, when I can get out shopping again, so would love to know if you find any that suit us.

BeginnerSAHM · 01/09/2013 20:40

Just a thought, but should blue springs try a 'true red' like one of the mac ones? I.e. not warm or cool - should suit both skin tones and be 'neutral'.

thanks gilly. I must admit I looked washed out if colours are too pale. did have swatches somewhere.

I tend to go for blues, turquoise coral or deep pink and the odd bit of khaki. neutrals dont look that great. lilac or violet dont look bad on me.

Mumelie · 01/09/2013 21:28

Thanks for the lipstick advice everyone. Think I'm going to order the HoC 606 and the 55 to try. Yes really need a neutral red not warm or cool.
I'm trying to do a 50s look - would you go for navy or dark brown to replace Black for winged eye liner?

BeginnerSAHM · 01/09/2013 23:29

Mumelie - if you're a blue spring, think black might be ok??? Especially if you have naturally dark lashes/eyebrows? Otherwise, I reckon brown/black...

Mumelie · 02/09/2013 07:28

Thanks Beginner - although I used to wear black all the time it now looks very weird on me (I'm middling - not pale not dark) . Think I'll go with the Brown/Black as too Brown would look a bit odd too.

Aquelven · 02/09/2013 15:46

I wear brown/black or if brown a really, really dark one. Any hint of gingery brown looks dreadful on me. Same with eyeshadow, I like neutrals but the browns have to be cool slately browns, nothing orangey or reddish.

Been out....yeah!!!! Grin
First time since op. Got a lift as not allowed to drive yet but hobbled on crutches to, guess where?.....BootsGrin to look at lipsticks.
Bought No7 Moisture Drench in Coral Rose, love it!

wools · 02/09/2013 16:03

Yes to brown/ black mascara - black much too harsh (on me anyhow). Lipstick sounds lovely Aquelven. Glad to hear you Are able to get out and about Again.

BeginnerSAHM · 02/09/2013 16:18

Ditto Aquelven re brown eyeshadows! Glad you've been able to get out.

My eyebrows are incredibly dark brown (almost black) so think I could still wear black mascara. Have been wearing brown/black since most recent spring diagnosis though Confused!

what does a blue spring mean?

wools · 02/09/2013 18:29

Alemci - blue spring means that all of the spring palette blues will look especially good on you even though other colours in the palette work too. You can wear silver jewellery as well as gold. Usually blue springs have bright blue eyes too.

alemci · 02/09/2013 19:03

thanks Wool is there a link for that. is it hoc or another colour expert. I tend to wear loads of blue

wools · 02/09/2013 19:11

This is a good website. It deals with all the seasons and how they are broken down.
12blueprints.com/category/more-topics-for-the-12-seasons/spring-colours/

Also, if you do a mumsnet search on blue spring - there are a number of threads which talk about it.

Basically it is a House of Colour diagnosis but Colour Me Beautiful will have something similar too.

Back to work yesterday! New term, new me! So many people commented on how well I looked. Really gave me a boost!

BeginnerSAHM · 03/09/2013 09:00

Excellent Joycey! Very satisfying....

Hi everyone. My HoC make-up order came today (super fast!).
The 55 Bright Red lipstick is just perfect for the party - totally love it! Also tried the 606 Geranium Red which is nice for every day wear.
Bought 2 others in the sale - 59 Orangey Coral - which although looked bright orange really suited me; and 683 Shocking Spring Pink - which was vile! But cheap so not too disappointing.

Mumelie · 03/09/2013 18:00

Oh and well done Joycey - great getting those compliments isnt it?

Aquelven · 03/09/2013 20:08

Great, Joycey, a real boost Smile

How does the 55 differ from the 606, Mumelie?

Mumelie · 03/09/2013 20:22

The 55 is a proper bright red - and is neutral. The 606 is ever so slightly more pinky so a little warmer - a little paler - more every day.

Aquelven · 03/09/2013 22:23

Thank you Smile
Not sure that I'm brave enough got 55.

Aquelven · 03/09/2013 22:24

For, not got Blush

BeginnerSAHM · 03/09/2013 23:16

Honestly, go for 55.... Am really Not a lipstick person but I love it. Wore it tonight on a class mums' night out (not tres racey but fun), with a shiny white top (bad), cream vest and turquoise/patterned top. And skinny grey jeans and ash Nevada boots. I think the red lippy worked really well, despite being v bright.

Joycey29 · 04/09/2013 19:36

Wore teal green dress and loved the comments. Told one person about CMB and she looked astonished and slightly shocked - before laughing and saying 'Really??? I didn't think people did that anymore'
Well after the change in comments since CMB - I just think her loss! Confused

BeginnerSAHM · 04/09/2013 20:10

Bet you looked fab Joycey! I don't tell many people... Still has the Bridget Jones' mum/Hyacinth Bucket image!!
