HoC Spring thread....

BeginnerSAHM · 12/08/2013 19:00

This is a thread for all of us who have had their colours done' by House of Colour and are a Spring. (And 'believe' in it...Wink.) Or, by CMB and are 'clear and warm'. Think a few other CMB catergories might be spring too - 'soft and warm' maybe/' warm and clear' (different from 'clear and warm' because of the order of priorities/dominance...)?

Feel free to ask any Spring-related fashion/make-up/style questions on this thread.... (I won't know the answer but lots of people on these boards will!)

So, I'll start with a 'spring' question.... I never wear lipstick. I occasionally wear neutral-ish lipgloss on a night out but never reapply during the evening so it's always gone within the first 20 mins. I know as a spring, I 'should'. Can anybody suggest a Revlon lip butter that is springish? I gather they are more sheer than full lipstick so might be a good way for me to start trying lip colour out! Thank you

I probably posted this before but was Cmb Analysised 20 years' ago as spring flowing into summer. I tend to wear alot of blue and don't look bad in the current reddish pink in the shops.

ygritte · 26/08/2013 21:35

Hmm..cool winter maybe explains why I bought the Mac "lustering" then this weekend.

Joycey29 · 27/08/2013 09:38

So from enormous lipstick list from earlier (thanksGrin) does anyone have any recommendations?
Am going shopping!Grin

Joycey29 · 27/08/2013 09:43

Anyone found a grey mascara?

BeginnerSAHM · 27/08/2013 10:02

Hmm - think you should be cool or warm, although you can veer towards neutral, if you see what I mean? Probably not Wink.

'Spring flowing into summer' sounds to me like the bluer end of spring (although still spring and therefore warm) but a 'light' one. 'Spring flowing into winter' sounds at the bluer end of spring too but going for 'clear' tones rather than 'soft' ones. I dunno! Best leave it to the professionals really Wink.

Lipsticks - umm, no, still haven't cracked these! Am definitely trying mac see sheer when children are safely at school. Hopefully, I can use it as an interview lippy...

By the way, I'm still not sure of my HoC spring sub-category but I know what my double star colours are so I guess it doesn't really matter whether I'm a blue spring or a bright spring (or whatever)!! Still never going to wear head-to-toe tan though, despite it being a double star, as think I'd look like a giant poo. Tan accessories and jackets are ok though. As decreed by me Wink.

Beginner. My sub category is Blue Spring & tan is one of my least rated colours, only to be used at 25% for accessories, if that's any help.
All my double stars are blues, turquoises & greens with only one red & grey as the others. All the yellows, tans etc are very low rated for me.

alemci · 27/08/2013 10:51

thanks

i did have swatches and I suit violet, turquoise, blues, my colours are warm and clear. I don't like green much although it is in my pallet and i quite like pinks and corals.

i have fair skin, blue grey eyes which are quite bright and my hair was once naturally light brown

i never wear black against my skin but do have black trousers and skirts etc.

BeginnerSAHM · 27/08/2013 12:29

Thanks Aquelven - actually, I am not so sure tan is amazing on me but my consultant was.... I got double stars for the turquoise and the blue next to it. Double star for Kelly green and coral. And geranium pink I think. And one star for navy. I'm a weirdo spring, clearly!

Another non-tan fan here!

alemci · 27/08/2013 13:12

don't like tan much either. love your weirdo spring analogy

BirdyBedtime · 27/08/2013 13:28

Thanks Beginner for starting this. I was a serial lurker and occasional poster on the old Spring thread before they defected to Facebook.

I'm a clear spring and was diagnosed (?) 6 years ago. I've only recently thrown out the last pair of black trousers lurking in my wardrobe, but still hold onto a little black cardi that I revert to if I am not feeling confident enough to do 2 colours and a splash!

I am on the hunt this winter for a new winter coat/jacket. The last one I bought was 3 years ago and is a charcoal grey, but what I really want is a kelly green or turquoise one. Had a quick look round John Lewis yesterday and once again coats are going to be a problem I think - black, burgandy, moss green or purple anyone???

dreamingofsun · 27/08/2013 13:39

birdy - believe it or not lands end sometimes have smart wool coats in lots of colours. i've never actually bought one - i tend to use their walking the dog type coats - though these too come in some amazingly bright shades. they maybe expensive at first, but they do some great discounts if you are patient. some are frumpy so you have to waid through to find the stars

Aquelven · 27/08/2013 14:11

Coats are going to be a problem.
All my good, newish coats are black! I have one navy( a ** colour for me along with grey) but it's on it's last legs, threadbare, at least 15 years old Blush. I suppose I'll have to look for a new navy or grey one though wasn't planning to cough up for one this year as I bought a really expensive, full length, black sheepskin last year that I was hoping would do me forever! Think I'll be resorting to scarves.

BirdyBedtime · 27/08/2013 16:34

Thanks dreamingofsun - I'll have a look on their website. I don't mind if it's a bit expensive as I tend to keep coats for a few years, and if the colour is right then it will be worth every penny.

Gillybobs · 27/08/2013 17:14

My boden mia wool jacket comes in a fab springy pink....

jumpinghoops · 28/08/2013 09:28

Worth having a look in Hobbs for coats in Spring colours, I haven't managed to look this year but they usually do some great bright navy, dove grey, red and various other spring colours.

Gillybobs · 28/08/2013 10:38

I see the autumn girls are doing a what are you wearing today thread for ideas. What a great idea. Why don't we do that here if we are wearing something we think works well? Today I'm working so in mid grey tapered trousers and great plains top which has turquoise, aqua, grey and terracotta print, turquoise lola rose beads, grey snake print shoes

BeginnerSAHM · 28/08/2013 11:06

I saw that too! In Pilates stuff and about to go to the beach - will be in navy short skirt, navy bikini underneath and apple green vest. Will add tan belt so I have 3 colours....Confused. And tan flip flops!

OP posts:
BeginnerSAHM · 28/08/2013 11:07

Actually, stone/grey shorts - will be clambering over rocks I think...

OP posts:
BirdyBedtime · 28/08/2013 14:54

I'm in a mid grey skirt, peachy and ivory diamond pattern top and kerry green cardi with chunky brown/gold beads and tan pumps. At work so not very exciting, but surprised by how good the cardi and top look together as I've not paired them before.

Have found a great green coat on Lands End site (thanks dreaming) so will be buying tonight.

Aquelven · 28/08/2013 15:08

Was looking at that autumn thread & Wombat seems to be similarly hampered. At least I've ditched the DVT stockings ( winter white so no good) & progressed to crutches which luckily are a grey like my ** swatch. Grin
Otherwise in black trousers Blush my excuse, they fit over the rugby ball foot. Striped top in two shades of grey, see how I'm colour co/ordinating. One tan slipper( accessory colour as recommended by HoC) turquoise & silver necklace. Blue Springs can wear gold or silver equally.

Joycey29 · 28/08/2013 20:57

Love it Aque!
I was wearing a blue denim skirt, with green vest top and an apricot hoodie.
Loads of comments on hoodie looking fab! Grin

Joycey29 · 28/08/2013 22:08

Birdy - is it the green swing coat - love that! Really impressed with a couple of Lands end- need to find more money!!!

BeginnerSAHM · 28/08/2013 22:40

Ha - Aquelven, sounds very coordinated!! And, in the CMB system, think you 'can' wear black. (Pretty sure you are clear and warm...). However, I 'can' in the CMB system - it looks ok but much better with a bit of make up or skin showing between the black and my face!

About to put on my ancient bright coral short M&S cotton nightie... So am even doing the colour thing as I sleep Wink.
