HoC Spring thread....

BeginnerSAHM · 12/08/2013 19:00

This is a thread for all of us who have had their colours done' by House of Colour and are a Spring. (And 'believe' in it...Wink.) Or, by CMB and are 'clear and warm'. Think a few other CMB catergories might be spring too - 'soft and warm' maybe/' warm and clear' (different from 'clear and warm' because of the order of priorities/dominance...)?

Feel free to ask any Spring-related fashion/make-up/style questions on this thread.... (I won't know the answer but lots of people on these boards will!)

So, I'll start with a 'spring' question.... I never wear lipstick. I occasionally wear neutral-ish lipgloss on a night out but never reapply during the evening so it's always gone within the first 20 mins. I know as a spring, I 'should'. Can anybody suggest a Revlon lip butter that is springish? I gather they are more sheer than full lipstick so might be a good way for me to start trying lip colour out! Thank you

And - can you wear camel/light suede boots with dark opaque tights in the winter... ? I think maybe not Hmm. So I can only really imagine wearing them with dresses/skirts and bare legs in the summer. Bother Angry. I really like them!! (Spiral boots have a nice 'v' at the top front of the boot which makes my legs look less chopped off... Just in case anybody else is considering a purchase!)

OP posts:
Gillybobs · 21/08/2013 15:00

I think you can but the issue is it can shorten the leg visually? So it really depends on your leg length I suppose!

BeginnerSAHM · 21/08/2013 15:17

Thanks Gillybobs. Leg length is fine proportionately. Am 5'5'' and have 'normal' length legs. Reckon I'll have a trying on sesh tonight!

Got this today - lovely dress!

Aquelven · 22/08/2013 18:30

Beginner love those studded boots!

How about these opaques with them instead of black?

BeginnerSAHM · 22/08/2013 18:53

V nice cardoon! In the 'midnight' colour?

Glad you like them aquavelen! Kept the studded ones and sending back others... Perfect tights! Thanks Grin. (Although I might wear them with knickers...)

BeginnerSAHM · 22/08/2013 18:54

Sorry Aquelven! Bloody autocorrect...

cardoon · 22/08/2013 18:57

Yes, midnight..........probably a wee bit dark...

Joycey29 · 22/08/2013 21:56

Just bought new bras in re measured size. - I look a new women!
That and my colours - no one will recognise me!Blush

cardoon · 24/08/2013 08:17

We Springs are not very prolific posters, are we?

My main concerns re colours only stretches as far as paint samples right now - Farrow and Ball is my new swatch book!

Hope the thread keeps going til I'm ready to think of more important things like A/W Smile

Lamp room grey anyone..........

wools · 24/08/2013 08:46

I'm jealous of all the action from the Autumn and Winter threads right now - I guess it's more difficult for springs at this time of the year. I had a quick look in H&M yesterday and couldn't find a single thing I liked. I'm wondering about this www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Knitwear/Jumpers/WK851-BLU/Womens-Bright-Bluebell_Loganberry-Printed-Button-Back-Jumper.html right now. I've been sent a £10 boden voucher.

Aquelven · 24/08/2013 11:35

We'll have to keep bumping it up! I need it to keep going till I can get out. I'm climbing the walls with boredom here, desperate to get to the shops.....or just out!
Can't even manage to sort my wardrobe properly yet hampered by these flipping crutches & a foot wrapped up to resemble a rugby ball Hmm

gladyoucame · 24/08/2013 15:41

Don't want the thread to die! I just had a clearout of mainly old, rather faded, non Spring tops that I'd kept despite not being in my colours, so I now need some more clothes to replace them Smile Ordered some cheap Ash spirals yesterday so looking for some new trousers and tops to go with them. Although I work full time in dress/suit type environment so don't actually need that much casual stuff

Mumelie · 24/08/2013 20:17

Just been catching up on the Spring thread as been away on hols. I so need some time to sort through my AW clothing (as I had my colours done in May - I guess a lot can be replaced - I had an obsession with grey last winter - must make sure its the right shade).
Still to buy that new bag too Confused so many to choose from!
I did get a compliment from my hairdresser today for my HOC lipstick (709 soft coral), which I wear often. Love the colour but it is drying on my lips. Anyone else get this with the HOC lipsticks?

BeginnerSAHM · 24/08/2013 20:34

Hello mumelie! I have a similar excess of grey... Think it's fine though in most shades as a neutral. It's the 'pop' of colour i struggle with.

Gladyoucame - I have tons of formal office stuff and used to have hardly any casual stuff (well, jeans and lots of long sleeved white t-shirts...) but have been building up my stay at home mum stuff recently. I'll probably feel comfortable with my casual wardrobe just when I start work again - then I'll have to deal with my sea of black suits...!

Hope this thread doesn't die too! Wink

I'll keep an eye out for it. I think I'm a spring, having rejected Autumn after I tried living those colours for a while. I'm waiting to hear back from HOC for an appointment, so hopefully I'll get that sorted in the near future.
Bought two lipsticks today after looking at Gillybobs fantastic list. Revlon Candy Apple which was on the list and Tutti Frutti that wasn't. They are both quite sheer and don't make me feel self conscious wearing them.

Mumelie · 24/08/2013 22:21

Your right Beginner - that 'pop' of colour is hard esp in the winter. I've just looked back through my swatches and all my ** colours are the brightest ones (poppy, geranium, bright blue, leaf Green etc). Think I'll look for tops work wise to go with the grey. I'm rubbish at causal too, loads of accessories helps I find Grin

ygritte · 25/08/2013 21:09

I'm hoping a Spring expert can help me here please.I have been reading the posts since this thread started (and the previous one which progressed onto facebook) but now I'm very confused. I thought that I was a bright spring...don't know where I got that from...but I suit apple green, cobalt and fushia, silver grey.

Having tried quite a few of the lipsticks Gilly posted about from a blog, it seems they are all too peachy for me especially MAC Crosswires and See Sheer. Then I tried the Zara blazer in kelly green which looked drab on me.

Do you think I need an analysis to find any underlying traits from a different season? Can you have underlying winter traits?

I hope this thread continues as Winter is Coming!! dah, dah, daaaah;) and the shops are very dull and lacking in lovely bright, shiny things....until Xmas, of course.

Joycey29 · 26/08/2013 07:47

Been away and had so many comments on my clothes! This is unheard of! I was wearing scarves in teal and a minty green. My new boden top and another time a coral/orange top.Grin
Also bought a gorgeous hoody from Lazy Jacks in teal and a turquoise.
Looks so good on me!
Off to buy lipstick this week!

wools · 26/08/2013 08:47

Ygritte you sound more like a winter to me. Fuchsia and cobalt are very much winter colours . I would really recommend having your colours done. I felt so sure I was a winter until HoC diagnosed me spring. In fact I was very upset with my diagnosis to begin with and thought she was wrong. After a while I came round to the idea and can now see winter colours are very jarring on me and I suit a warmer palette. Have a look at the winter thread and see what the ladies over there recommend.

mrsharrystyles · 26/08/2013 09:20

I think I am a spring. I'm going to contact HOC tomorrow to make an appointment.
Until then, could someone tell me what is the right shade of grey for a spring?

BeginnerSAHM · 26/08/2013 16:55

Hi ygritte - written two long posts replying now that I'd lost! Grrr. Agree with wools though. In addition, I think the CMB system may be more helpful in your particular case - your dominant characteristic could well be 'clear' and your secondary 'cool', making you a winter. If you had 'clear' as dominant, the 'warm' you'd be a spring. But there is overlap between one type of 'spring' palette in the CMB system and one type of 'winter' palette. Definitely suggest having your colours 'done' properly though!

You could well be 'on the cusp' between seasons.

Hello ygritte
I agree with with wools & beginner that you might be a winter. Although the only way to be quite sure is to get the swatches draped properly, I really don't think you can be a spring.
I'm on the very coolest end of spring, being a Blue Spring, but I look like death in fuchsia & all the coral toned lipsticks, even the most vividly orange, suit me far, far better than any cool pink, blue toned red or any with the merest hint of mauve.

BeginnerSAHM · 26/08/2013 18:38

Mrsharrystyles - sorry, don' have my swatch book with me but pretty sure mid charcoal grey and pale grey are good neutrals... You need to have something bright with it though if you're a spring (not that i always do this...yet...)

OP posts:
ygritte · 26/08/2013 21:22

Thankyou wools, beginner and aquelven for your replies,it has started me thinking. I was convinced that I was a winter in my younger years but now with different hair colour and ageing, sun-kissed (sallower) skin,it maybe proves that your primary characteristics still show through. Off to Google cool clear springs now.

I like all the linked clothes however and will not let go of my springiness until properly sorted....apart from tan;)
