So, I'm tweeting about bras with M&S. Who wants to tell me which stores have given incorrect measurements?

They have asked which store fitted incorrectly. Apparently they've invested a lot into their Bra fitting and would like to know which stores have incorrectly measured / fitted.

Shall we give them a list?!

Leicester city centre.

Think I was measured as a 36A, although that was a loooonnnngggg time ago and I was probably a larger volume than I am now (I had just finished bf).

Am currently wearing 32DD/E depending on style.

Again the fitter was pleasant and on the surface seemed helpful. Fitted the band after measuring (using +4/5) but cup was fitted by sight.

At the time I was confident that I had the correct size after being fitted for the first time ever. It is only after reading these threads, watching the bravissimo fitting videos etc. That I've learnt how to tell a bra is/isn't fitting for myself.

TickledOnion · 18/07/2013 16:30

Not been fitted in store but the m&s bra size guide has me at 36E. I'm a 30G. It's not the fitters or even the bras that are the problem, it's the method.

ThingummyBob · 18/07/2013 16:30

Leeds city centre told me I was a 38D when I'm actually a 34G Hmm

OnTheNingNangNong · 18/07/2013 16:33

Barnstaple and Torquay stores both had me at an 38A. I'm a 32ff. They had nothing to fit my miniscule bust and both times I went away crushed. Bastards.

DoveDovePigeon · 18/07/2013 16:34

M & S need to poach some staff from Bravissimo and radically change their whole outlook. Their service atm is appalling.

EdwiniasRevenge · 18/07/2013 16:35

I have to say that I think of m&s as the 'classic' high street store for bra measuring.

If m&s could get the method right. Campaign for the right method etc. You have the potential to lead the market in a reform towards better measuring, potentially, recapturing a loyal band of customers in the process.

At the moment I go into m&s, see the huge poster displays stating that most women are wearing the incorrect bra size and I just want to deface it and point out that they have been measured in your stores.

Prawntoast · 18/07/2013 16:38

Redhill, Surrey. Measured as a 38E, having gleaned information from the bra intervention thread, I fitted myself as a 34G - so much more comfortable and better shape.

bluebump · 18/07/2013 16:38

I have never been measured there but I'm not impressed that my less than a month old M&S bra has the wire poking out of it already.

lavenderpekins · 18/07/2013 16:50

Shoreham - by - sea
Measured me a 38DD when I was 14.. Blighted my life till I was measured correctly at Bravissimo when I was 25! I was actually a 32F!
I'm now 31 and I would never recommend M&S bra fitting services and it seems they're still useless!
I can't tell you how it recked my confidence in my teenage years having to constantly yank them down and being paranoid i would be found out that i had a 38 back!

LaundryLegoLunch · 18/07/2013 16:52

I have worked for M&S in stores for 17 years. For ages I trusted them totally then a friend pointed me in the direction of an independent bra shop. Thy measured me as 34G. I got pregnant the next year and m&s (and I used the 'best' fitter in the store) said I was a 38C. Total rubbish.

I never ever ever buy bras there now, and I'd love to as I get staff discount.

It will need a massive change to measure properly. As others have said the fitters are doing as they're meant to. It's the training that's wrong. But the problem is they employ thousands of people, a lot of whom have very very long periods of service (my 17 years is nothing Grin) and changing their mindset and belief is very difficult.

I can offer for wrong fitting; EVERY M&S IN THE COUNTRY. I've worked in stores that are very old (Carlisle/Leeds) and pretty new (Merry Hill/Westfield). They are all the same.

TheProsAndConsOfHitchhiking · 18/07/2013 16:53

Lincoln high Street. Measured both myself and my 11 yo dd incorrectly.

MissStrawberry · 18/07/2013 16:59

It isn't rocket science that if all M&S staff are trained the same way they will all be amazing or all crap. Assuming of course they stick to the training.

ComtessedeFrouFrou · 18/07/2013 17:04

In 1993 I was measured for my first bra in Marks and Spencer in Luton Arndale Centre:

  1. over my clothes (including my jumper) Hmm
  1. Loudly and in the middle of the shop floor Shock

I'd like to think that things have changed. Based on overheard conversations in the fitting rooms in my now local store, I sincerely doubt it Hmm

herbaceous · 18/07/2013 17:11

I sometimes wonder if they make their bras to fit their sizes, IKSWIM. According to Bra Gurus I'm a 34E or F, or even a 32F, but I can't even do up a 34 in M&S. Maybe their 36s are actually 32s, cos they add 4 to the bras as well as the measurements?

CeeceeBloomingdale · 18/07/2013 17:13

Silverlink, North Shields
Gateshead Metrocentre

GW297 · 18/07/2013 17:13

Nottingham - completely the wrong cup size so I ended up wearing bras which looked horrible through my tops because of the big gap between my boobs and the cups. I went to Bravissimo soon afterwards and have never looked back!

bodingading · 18/07/2013 17:13

It's not the fitters fault. It's wrong on the website.

The method is just completely wrong. It's just blatantly and completely wrong to add 4-5 inches to everyone's back size. It's so weird. It's like Pizza Hut supplying all their stores with strawberry jam instead of passata, while running a national campaign about how 80% of Britons mistakenly eat jam on their pizza, and reprimanding individual delivery drivers for delivering pizza with jam on them.

OneLittleLady · 18/07/2013 17:14

Doncaster. Fitted me as a 40C (!) and I'm a 34G

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/07/2013 17:15

They're not herbacious - although there have been several reports of recent stock being small backed. I got fitted there about 4 months ago and the 36 she put me in was definitely a 36!

OneLittleLady · 18/07/2013 17:15

I should point out though, on a seperate visit, one of the other fitters fitted me as a 36E which was accurate at that time

YouHaveBeenOutbid · 18/07/2013 17:18

Edinburgh Princes St - put me in a 38A when about 6 months pregnant 2 years ago. Bravissimo said 32FF, John Lewis and Debenhams 34F.

I pulled out the band in front of me and said , 'You could get two of me in here!' then lifted up my arms at which point boobs fell out under the band. 'That's what you measure' she glowered and walked off never to return!

MrsLettuce · 18/07/2013 17:18

Oooh! One Little Lady you have the first correct fitting of the thread! Must have come across a brave rebel fitter - was she large of breast by any chance?

SorrelForbes · 18/07/2013 17:23

Over the years:
Windsor
Reading
Portsmouth
Plymouth
Cribbs Causeway
Stratford upon Avon
Birmingham
Southampton

Most recently:
Plymouth. Put me in a 36D/DD and 38D. I'm a 30GG.

HugAndRoll · 18/07/2013 17:24

M&S culverhouse cross said it would be impossible to get a bra to fit me because "you're a cup size bigger there (points to bottom of my breast) than you are there (points to the top of my breast)". She said that a 36A is best match and refused to budge on that when the 36 bra was too big on the tightest hook.

Went to John Lewis, lovely lady sorted me out, I'm a 32e or dd depending on the brand/style.

ShimmeringInTheSun · 18/07/2013 17:29

Castleford measured me....with a quick glance ..... at a 42B , when in actual fact (as accurately determined by a fab independent lingerie store, with fab staff, in Pontefract, I am a 38E.

Looking at all these threads it seems that M&S are excessively generous with their measurements.
