So, I'm tweeting about bras with M&S. Who wants to tell me which stores have given incorrect measurements?

They have asked which store fitted incorrectly. Apparently they've invested a lot into their Bra fitting and would like to know which stores have incorrectly measured / fitted.

Shall we give them a list?!

I used to work as a bra fitter for an independent store and have many times wanted to go into M&S and tell them how wrong they were in terms of fitting. The final straw came when a lovely, but very shy 18 year old girl and her Mum came into our shop and the daughter was in tears because M&S had told her that it was her fault she was finding it hard to find a bra as she was a "funny shape", I was livid. (She was a very normal 30F cup).

Haven't shopped there for bras since I was measured as a 38C (I was 32GG) and told they refused to sell me underwired bras because I was too young (18, and have had a huge chest since I was 12). Ridiculous. Very happy with Bravissimo and Brastop instead.

Seainasieve, have a look at this guide

With a 33 band you would be either a 32 or a 34 - as you are PG probably the 34 to allow a little room for expansion!

I just did the calculator too.

I'm a 36G. It fits really well. Despite all the answers about the fit of current bra being completely fine, they wanted to put me into a 38F.

I tried DD's measurements. The tool does not cover teens who are shopping for a first bra. It seems to stick you in 28AA regardless of actual measurements.

YY to Norwich and also Newcastle, who I had to argue with to get a refund on my (unworn) bras because "We always fit them correctly, you are mistaken." Much sulking from the 'customer service' rep when I refused to budge and eventually obtained my refund, which I promptly spent in Bravissimo.

Also in Newcastle (later on) much shaking of the head when I was asking about 28F/30E sizes (couldn't afford Bravissimo all the time!) as "You aren't that size/don't look like that/that size doesn't exist." Ta very much. Quite an anomaly actually as I find people in shops are usually much friendlier Oop North.

I've just done the M&S bra size calculator, apparently I'm a 30C.

I'm actually a 28D but hey ho.

seainasieve - there's a Bravissimo in Norwich, I think it's on London Street. They definitely do nursing/maternity bras and there's a guide (only available on the desktop site):

I realise this is well past the tweets of OP, but thank-you to everyone in this thread, I feel a bit more normal now.

Went to M&S Norwich to be fitted - I'm half way through my first pregnancy and my old bras are not quite so comfy any more (also thought I should get some non-wired) My back measurement was 33" and got told I was 38A! Apparently the 5 inches she added to my back measurement was to allow me to breathe (?!).

Felt really pressured into buying a really poorly (fitter said it was good) fitting, HIDEOUS, white bra that didn't really support anything. I found it hard to argue with her, and only managed to get out because I didn't like the colour (white - they always go grey in this house...). Came out feeling like a fatty and really very upset.

Reading this thread has made me feel a lot less like an odd-boob-shaped-freak :)

I'm still completely at a loss about getting some sort of good fitting bra at the moment though...

and the "expert" on their video goes: "So you're 31,5 so you add 5 or 4.."

So what's the revamp, that you can now book an appointment online to be fitted as a 36C?

Fareham

Measured dd as a 32b

She is a 28 d (I'm a bloody 34 and I'm twice her size) (actually make that 3 times her size)

30GG fitted in M&S Plymouth as a 36DD/38D. That worked well...

Aberdeen fitted me as a 38c. After trying a few on, all of which looked awful, she concluded that I was oddly shaped and would just have to make do. I was 18 at the time, had a horrendous body image, and left very upset. I'm currently a 32ff, and back then would have been a 30 back most likely. I hate m&s for doing that to me! I still remember the feeling of humiliation at being told I was an odd shape.

I'm not really sure. I'm also not sure why I bought it when I was spilling out of it and it really hurt. I assumed they knew best as they were the experts and I was just someone who thought I had bigger boobs than I did...

Report
StatisticallyChallenged · 29/07/2014 21:35

How on earth did they manage that FishRabbit? Surely your boobs must have been exploding out of it (a 36D is designed for someone measuring 36 under and 40 over, whereas a 30B is for 30 and 32!)

They never fail to surprise me

It's shocking that they've just ignored this. Maybe the guardian should steal all your research and write a brilliant article.

I wear a 36D... Bristol M&S said I was a 30B. I wore it to work. My ribs bled. I took it back and told them the extent. They nodded and said "ok! Do you just want a refund?"
