...when encountering people who go: Oh I'm a 34A when they really are most probably not?

I am finding it hard to convince people out of believing their M & S sizes and refer them to the bra gurus fitting guide. But it's so deeply ingrained into common thinking that anything over a D is massive and that they MUST be a 34/36 frame even when they are blatantly smaller than me and I measure as a 32!

Thanks, all my bras are 36/38 c/d!! Time for an overhaul I think!

notso · 10/07/2013 16:31

Please would someone help me? Have never had a good fitting bra.
I am measuring 39 under and 50 over and currently wearing 40DD fitted by M&S.

SorrelForbes · 10/07/2013 16:44

MrsRadicchio Through these threads we are creating a butter bra mountain of unwanted 36Cs!

SorrelForbes · 10/07/2013 16:46

notso Try a 38HH, 38H. Usually if you're between sizes I'd suggest trying the bigger back too (in your case a 40H, 40GG) but sometimes, those of us who are a bit larger need to size down to get the proper level of support. Therefore, also try a 36J/JJ. Make sure you try a new bra on back to front first so that the cup size doesn't skew the fit.

notso · 10/07/2013 17:05

Wow, thanks Sorrel am going bra shopping on Saturday then.
Hopefully this will be an end to the bra-strap-hanging-out-of-my-t-shirt-sleeve annoyance!

Turnipinatutu · 10/07/2013 18:10

I've just measured using the bra guru advice and I'm 34 under and 41 round the bust. I'm small chested and currently wearing a 36A and always struggle to find cups small enough Sad
I can't see how I should be in a 34F! Have I got this wrong?

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/07/2013 18:27

Turnipinatutu - you have it right. try putting your current bra on and scooping (see my post upthread that explains how)

fieldfare · 10/07/2013 18:28

I'm currently wearing a 36E which is quite comfortable. Have just measured and I'm a 36" under boob but 46" around fullest part when leaning forward slightly. That would make me an FF?!

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/07/2013 18:30

a GG! Have you tried scooping too? That's normally the cause of a big discrepancy - breast tissue that isn't in the cup

Turnipinatutu · 10/07/2013 18:44

Shock well scouping fills the cups on current A cup, but an F? Confused how could it not be massive?

SorrelForbes · 10/07/2013 18:47

An A cup on a 36 back is not same in volume as an A cup on a smaller band. How tightly did you hold the tape when taking the under bust measurement?

BookFairy · 10/07/2013 18:49

Turn I'm the same. My two boobs together struggle to fill out one F cup so I'm not sure how this could be right for me Confused

Turnipinatutu · 10/07/2013 18:52

It was fairly tight without being too tight.
From a 36A to 34F is such a big increase in cup size isn't it?
I usually order bras online, but think in going to have to go to an actual shop.

SoTiredAgain · 10/07/2013 19:02

Oops! I think my earlier post was missed Blush. Under measurement is 29", over is 37". Could you tell me what I should be wearing (currently 34C)? Please?

Dorange · 10/07/2013 19:03

statistically changed please help me.

I never have a bra fitted and always bought at primark cheap shops, but now I decided it is time.

Just measured myself and it is 30" under and 34" over (does it sound right? I hope I didn't do it wrong)

I am going bra shopping on Sunday, where should I go, what brands to look for? I don't want/like anything sexy or faff, just a plain ordinary thing.

How much roughly should I be expected to pay?

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/07/2013 19:03

The cup measurement is less accurate, always will be. In general though,it is easier to spot a too big cup. So go in to a shop, pick up the same bra in say a 34d,dd,e and F, and start with the F. Pop it on and scoop vigorously. It could be that you are someone who needs smaller than they measure but it could also be that your boobs are quite wide based so there is tissue not currently in the bra that would be in a bigger cup size.

SorrelForbes · 10/07/2013 19:07

You need to read this article as it does a really good job at explaining how cup sizing works.

OneHolyCow · 10/07/2013 19:08

Okay, so I'm in shock.. similar to Turnipinatutu (what's in a name? Grin )
32 under and 40 max. I wear badly fitting 36A.
No way an F cup.. really??

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/07/2013 19:10

Oneholycow - actually try a 32FF! I know, you all think we are fifty shades of crazy!

SorrelForbes · 10/07/2013 19:11

SoTiredAgain Try a 28G, 28FF, 30FF, 30F.

OneHolyCow · 10/07/2013 19:13

Oh my god!
Wow.
Fifty shades of something alright! Shock

'll try though, thanks!

INeedSomeHelp · 10/07/2013 19:14

I am so excited about this thread. I have been skint for ages so have been wearing bras that I know don't fit because I couldn't afford to replace.
Now I am losing weight through diet and exercise and will have some money due to a redundancy payout.

And the first thing I'm going to do is treat myself to some new underwear. And I know I should be sensible and go for white, black and nude. But I will no doubt go for something bright and impractical!
But there's just a great feeling about wearing lovely matching bra and knickers under a boring work outfit.
Can't wait to measure myself and find out what I should be wearing.

Turnipinatutu · 10/07/2013 19:30

Right I'm off bra shopping tomorrow lunchtime and will report back......

KatyMac · 10/07/2013 19:31

My best bra ever Freya Rio is nearly out of stock everywhere

What else can I wear?

Christobel51 · 10/07/2013 20:09

I've just measured 42 inches and 49 inches.... What does that make me? My bras have always been uncomfortable and I just figured it was my body shape to blame!
