Shiny new thread for some shiny new perfumes (and classics and niche brands)

It's lovely.
Traversee du Bosphore might be something along these lines as well.
They are usually pretty safe - light and wearable - as well.

florascotia · 28/12/2013 20:26

One I have not smelled it - not my sort of thing - and as you suggest L'Artisan do not seem to want to provide samples. But somewhere that IS excellent at selling samples of other luxe brands is Neroli in Hungary: www.parfumneroli.hu . It's easy to pay them in Euros, and I've found their service excellent in the past. At the moment, they have cheap samples of several lovely Aoud-based scents (eg by Montale and by Neela Vermeire, but also others) that might just perhaps suit your friend, plus a dark sandalwoody scent on special offer: www.parfumneroli.hu/parfum/introduction/profumum_roma/santalum/

FrugalFashionista · 29/12/2013 14:09

OLL samples here! Oud is a love/hate thing - I would not buy an oud perfume blind, nor would I give it as a gift without having the recipient test it first. YSL M7 Oud Absolu is an easy mainstream oud for newbies.

Fuckit love it that you love Sycamore! Cosi fantastic gift!

I'm really curious about the new Tauers, Phi and Ingrid, but haven't sampled them yet.

I've been very conservative with perfumes lately, have worn Chanel No. 5 EDP for a full week now...

cosikitty · 29/12/2013 18:03

If anyone is near Leeds, TKMaxx had 100ml bottles of Annick Goutal for £20/£25, they had Nuit Etoille, Eau du Sd, Eau de Hadrian, Ninfeo Mio and a few others, they also had Cartier fragrances and a 100ml bottle of Lalique Encre Noir for £25!

OneLittleLady · 29/12/2013 18:15

Thanks FF I will get a few samples to try out. Oh and good to see you back again Thanks

FrugalFashionista · 29/12/2013 18:22

OLL Alla Violetta is a paradise and their selection is now wider than ever. TJ Maxx finds sound great too - FYI all, Encre Noire is poor man's Sycomore! Eau du Sud and Ninfeo Mio are also solid performers, light enough for work!

MrsSchadenfreude · 30/12/2013 08:26

I love Sycomore too! I had a squirt of Sahara Noir when I was in JL the other day. I hated it for the first hour or so, could only think of Catholic churches as it was so incense-y. I liked it after that, but didn't love it, and not sure I could cope with a full hour of incense first.

I also tried the new version of Ivoire in Selfridges and hated it. The dirtiness of the old Ivoire has gone completely. I have Eau d'Ivoire, which smells more like the old version than the new.

FrugalFashionista · 31/12/2013 11:23

I've bought my FB of Coromandel on a New Year's Eve two years ago. Wearing it since yesterday. It's too rich for most of the year, but perfect right now. I dislike the first 15 minutes, but it's delicious after that, particularly overnight.

FrugalFashionista · 31/12/2013 11:24

Oh and a poll for everyone - what is going to be your NYE perfume?

CointreauVersial · 31/12/2013 12:55

Well, I'm on holiday and only bought three samples (the first that came to hand): Amber Russe, Different Co Sel de Vetiver and Naomi Goodsir Cuir Velours. Out of those, probably the last one.

SpringyReframed · 31/12/2013 13:19

Hello, just found my way here courtesy of Frugal on another thread. I cant believe I havent seen this before.
I'm no expert or even connoisseur, but I love to find perfumes other than those available in "duty free".
I was given Cartier Baiser Vole for Christmas. I am loving it, it suits my mood. The bottle is also very handsome.

cosikitty · 31/12/2013 13:22

I'm going to wear Black Orchid tonight. It is so 'in your face' that I feel I can only wear it for late night parties, which I don't get to go to much, so will take the opportunity Grin.

coffeeinbed · 31/12/2013 13:37

I'll probably will wear Strip.
It's not an everyday day treat, but it's lovely.
Or YSL Nu.

LittleBabyPigsus · 31/12/2013 20:21

Hello ladies. I don't feel that at home in Style & Beauty (being fat and unfashionable and poor) but perfume is my favourite thing ever. Got Sheer Stella (2008) for Christmas from my mum - not what I would usually go for (my favourite perfume is Shalimar) but I quite like it in a simple rosey kind of way. It's so light compared to my usual Guerlain stinkbombs though! Sniffed Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune the other day in House of Fraser and it was lovely - properly bitter grapefruit.

As you can probably tell, I'm not much for the standard modern fruity florals - I love incense, some vanillas, ylang ylang, aromatic citrus and citrus blossom (grapefruit, bergamot, orange blossom), woods and vetiver. Patchouli sometimes.

FrugalFashionista · 01/01/2014 09:07

Welcome Springy and Pigsus!

Anyone who loves and savors great classics or woods and incense will fit right in! I love all of the above. (Have you tried Tauer's L'Air du Desert Marocain?) It's a myth that loving perfume has to be an expensive thing. Most of the people I know do that on a shoestring budget - instore sniffing, samples, decants (Crystal Flacon is great), and swaps are cheap ways to enjoy exquisite perfumes.

I'm trying to decide which perfume to pick to celebrate the New Year - but I'm not fully awake yet... (No headache though, so that is a great start. Grin )

How about you ladies - is today going to be scent free or are you wearing something special?

SpringyReframed · 01/01/2014 10:08

It is a completely filthy day her, heavy rain and high winds. My choice would have been Verbenas of Provence by Jo Malone to cheer me up but it was discontinued. Does anyone know anything so fresh and summery that would promise better days to come? I quite like Jo Malone Grapefruit but it is no where near as interesting a scent as Verbenas.

FrugalFashionista · 01/01/2014 11:36

Springy there is a bottle on eBay but it's quite pricey and in the US. But looking for discontinued perfumes oneBay usually works, I often find stuff I need on eBay.de!

SOTD (for people new here, Scent Of The Day - you can just post your SOTD here too) Nuits d'Hadrien by Annick Goutal. After last night's party I crave something fresh and light: this has wonderfully rich lemony notes. But I will always be an oriental lover, and this has very soft oriental incensey undertones - the best of both worlds Grin

Cointreau I like Cuir Velours and will need to wear it soon!

Fuckitthatlldo · 01/01/2014 12:33

I got a surprise full bottle of Tauer's Incense Rose for Christmas!

I'd given my mother a sample ages ago and said how nice it was, and so she must have had a little word in Santa's ear Smile

I was playing charades and drinking hot chocolate last night with just a few friends so my perfume was low key, but I reckon for a full on party I'd probably pick something a little more dramatic - my Jasmin Noir perhaps or even a little Fracas for a real statement.

Incidentally I loathed Fracas when I first tried it (thought it was all nail polish and esters) but I kept going back and re-trying it, just to remind myself how much I didn't like it. Eventually I had to admit it had me in its heady grip. I'd probably only wear it a few times a year, but still... it's so narcotic I'm surprised it isn't illegal. Carnal Flower is a much fresher tuberose but I've come to the conclusion that if you're going to wear a tuberose kosh you may as well go for the full opium den effect.

So yes. My vote for a New Years Eve perfume goes to Fracas. That'll have them swooning under the mistletoe Grin

CointreauVersial · 01/01/2014 14:35

Bleurgh, Fuckit - I won't be coming to your party. Wink Wink

SpringyReframed · 01/01/2014 15:20

Thanks Frugal, but too pricey for me. I do like the Korres Heliotrope,Ylang Ylang, Citron as a summery scent so maybe will get some of that instead with my Christmas money Wink

Fuckitthatlldo · 01/01/2014 15:25

It would definitely be a marmite kind of party for sure Cointreau Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/01/2014 15:27

Ugh, Fracas. I'm with CV on this.

My scent for last night was Vol de Nuit.

SinisterSal · 01/01/2014 18:53

This thread has been an inspiration!

I'm at the point of ordering a Tauer discovery set. Can anyone recommend any scent in particular? L'Air du Moraccain is no1. (excuse the spelling) But the rest are just random to me.

I like grapefruit notes and tea notes but I also want a kind of selection box of different styles.

Fuckitthatlldo · 01/01/2014 19:04

Oooh a Tauer discovery set - how lovely.

I personally would recommend L'air du Desert Marocain, definitely. You have to try this one - it's just gorgeous.

Incense Rose is also good. Le Maroc Pour Elle...

Enjoy Smile
