Shiny new thread for some shiny new perfumes (and classics and niche brands)

ok, did some more checking of my sample stash and I also have:

Hermes pamplemousse rose (actually littleomar I could send you one of these if you like? I have three! Nice fragrance, v fresh at the start, quite rosy and sweet in the end though and fades v quickly)

Mont Blanc Legend for women (?!) (full)
Just Cavalli (1/3 left)
See by Chloe (1/2 left)

Can any perfumista please very kindly remind me of tips previously mentioned to make scents last a bit longer? I think one was to put a dab of oil on skin before spraying perfume from bottle??

I love Lostmarc'h: L'eau de l'Hermine, but it fades so quickly. And I like the sound of L'eau de Dimanche from the same perfume company; the description of it on www.ausliebezumduft.de/lostmarc-h-l-eau-du-dimanche.html is SO enticing....
However, the review of it on Lucky Scent says that it fades even faster.

OneLittleLady · 20/06/2013 11:03

flora the Yatagan arrived not five minutes ago. Thanks for you. I've had a good sniff but I can't pick anything specific out in it right now due to hayfever induced bungedupness!! Will sniff again later when, fingers crossed, the pollen count will have dropped

ToysRLuv · 20/06/2013 11:20

Chocs and Fuzzy: I've joined your ranks with the selling, and am planning to sell decants once this current FB lot has reached its destination safely.

Just received some more samples from ebay with a complimentary one thrown in.. only it doesn't say what it is! Grin I'll try a bit of detective work and then ask the seller..

SOTD: Musc Ravageur. Smells of a creamy saffron, cinnamon and nutmeg dessert. Nice enough. Thought it was going to blow my mind from all the favourable reviews.

ToysRLuv · 20/06/2013 11:30

Ok, so, no nutmeg in Musc Ravageur. Must be the cloves, then..

ToysRLuv · 20/06/2013 11:32

florascotia: I think a perfume will often last a lot longer if sprayed on clothes or hair, but you risk staining with some stuff if it's coloured.

Also, you can "layer" the scent by using the body lotion plus the perfume on top.

CointreauVersial · 20/06/2013 13:01

Wilting - I have a sample set of Les Senteurs Gourmandes, purchased from M&S. All rather lovely, vanilla-based but not over-sweet.

Littleomar - grapefruit was my pregnancy drug too! I drank pink grapefruit squash by the gallon (and haven't touched it since). The Vanille Pampelune recommended by Fuzzy is gorgeous, but not particularly grapefruity.

Garlicnutty - what a lovely description of Seville A L'Aube. It was on my list to buy, but I resisted for cost-saving reasons. I may have to reconsider..... I can also recommend Tobacco Vanilla, and, guess what? It smells of tobacco and vanilla. Grin

Fuzzybirds · 20/06/2013 15:51

Chocs I totally agree, I haven't really spent much 'real money' on perfume. It's nearly all been from selling bits and bobs on ebay or vouchers from online surveys. I haven't got into making my own samples and decants yet though...

Flora I read somewhere that you can make your own perfumed body lotion from any perfume just by adding a few sprays to a dollop of unscented lotion like Aveeno or similar, and then layering again with the perfume might work?

SOTD is Pure White Linen, has a bit of a 'shower fresh' 90s vibe to it but more floral. Nice enough but doesn't last very long.

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 20/06/2013 15:56

flora- one tip to make scent last longer is to spray clothes and hair. It might fade on skin, but it seems to last longer on fabric and hair.

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 20/06/2013 15:58

Toys- I can't believe you mentioned Musc Ravageur- I have been wearing that today as well. What a coincidence.

To be honest, I was a little underwhelmed, but I will give it a few chances.

Vibbe · 20/06/2013 16:45

I always put perfume in my hair - lasts all day.

Sotd: Guerlain Terracotta Eau Sous Le Vent. It's a hydrating tan enhancer, but smells divine and I just use it as a perfume (and I've read somewhere that it can also be used like that).

ToysRLuv · 20/06/2013 17:08

Chocs: That's funny! MR is a bit underwhelming, isn't it? It's nice and comfortable, but you wonder what the fuss was all about.. It reminds me of Safran Troublant and L by Lolita Lempicka (L being a lot stronger and more gourmand).

Received my bargain En Passant from Germany. Thank goodness! It was couriered by DHL. They must have different rules in Germany..

wiltingfast · 20/06/2013 17:14

What about the Hermes Jardins? Do any of you like those?

ToysRLuv · 20/06/2013 17:21

I like them and am always going on about them. My favourite is Apres La Mousson, but the melon note in it smells different on different people.. My second favourite is Sur Le Toit. It's light, fresh and green, but lovely fruity/flowery at the same time.

florascotia · 20/06/2013 17:33

Thanks Thanks to Toys, Fuzzy, Vibbe, Chocs for helpful suggestions.

Lady hope your hayfever is better soon. Then beware! I could smell the Yatagan (faintly) through the packaging. But presumably the Post Office could not...

Have just ordered some minty, lemony Lostmarc'h: DinDan - in the hope that we get some more summer weather. It's been raining hard here today.

BelleDameSansMerci · 20/06/2013 21:31

wiltingfast PM me your address and it's yours! Hope it gets to you ok.

SOTD was Heliotrope.

CointreauVersial · 21/06/2013 12:51

SOTD - Le Labo Iris 39. Ohhhh, I love this. My favourite Iris.

ToysRLuv · 21/06/2013 12:56

SOTD: Armani Code Luna from mixed samples lot. It reminds me a lot of Hypnotic Poison with it's sort of sweet, artificial, medicinal notes, but it's not as toothpastey..

Cointreau: I like Iris scents too, but yesterday smelled a real living iris in a flower show and it didn't smell of anything at all! I know the root will probably have a smell, but the actual flower - nada! Or was it a funny batch? Confused

ToysRLuv · 21/06/2013 12:57

that was meant to be "flower shop" and not "show" Grin Although would probably not decline a free invite to one, either!

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 21/06/2013 16:15

Do any of you subscribe to the Fragrance Shop Discovery Club? For five pounds a quarter, they send you samples and vouchers off the FBs of those samples. It's great idea and I'm on my third box, but sadly, I have yet to find one sample that I have actually liked.(Still addicted to getting boxes of samples in the post though)

Is it the modern disease of only making fruity florals because that's all the public buy? But the public only buy fruity florals because that's all they make.

Which came first? The chicken or the egg?

Fuzzybirds · 21/06/2013 20:39

Toys it's funny isn't it, I've always loved the green, planty smell of tulips but some think they don't smell of anything.

Chocs I had a look at the discovery club but decided against it. I do have a search now and again for freebies but these tend to be fruity florals too- tried Boss Nuit recently and failed to see what was so 'nuit' about it!

I am a bit disappointed with my SOTD- supposed to be Eau de Cartier but it doesn't seem to bear any resemblance to the notes listed on Fragrantica. I was wondering if it had turned but when I looked at my little bottle more closely, the spray bit unscrews really easily. Now wondering if it's been refilled with something else...will have to look out for a tester in the shops and compare. One of the downsides of buying partial bottles from ebay!

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 21/06/2013 23:17

Fuzzy, Eau de Cartier is one of my favourites and I wear it all the time. It should be Lavendar and Bergamot. It's total heaven. I can send you a sample if you like.

Fuzzybirds · 22/06/2013 11:36

Chocs that's really kind of you, yes please and thank you! What I've got smells like a thin and synthetic citrus and disappears within half an hour. Doesn't seem right at all...

SOTD is Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin as I was in a mood for roses this morning. Really beautiful, with a hint of pepper.

ToysRLuv · 22/06/2013 12:49

SOTD: Organza Indecence. Really wonderful smooth spicy ambery vanilla. I would go as far as saying that this is as good as Ambre Precieux (only a lot cheaper - despite being discontinued)!

Fuzzy: I find LFB doesn't really work for me. It just smells weirdly medicinal. The drydown is nicer and more of a sweet rose smell, but I think I will get rid of my 5ml mini.. Oh well..

florascotia · 22/06/2013 13:52

Afternoon, all. SOTD = Une Rose Chypree, which I've now decided is the ONLY Tauer that I like. The first few sniffs have something of a real rose in the rain. The pefume gets gets heavier and spicier as it develops, and a little goes a very long way. But, thank goodness, it lacks that cloying 'posh hairdressing establishment smell' that I associate (no doubt incorrectly) with several other Tauer concoctions.

If anyone would like, I have small samples (from Scent and Sensibility) of Tauer's Miriam and L'Air du Desert Marocain. I've tried both once, but never again! Free to first takers, or would happily swap for samples of something fresh and green...
