Which items of clothing do you think scream 'tourist' when abroad?

Inspired by an earlier thread re capsule wardrobes and holiday packing, DonaAna commented on tourists who visit town in Italy where she lives being obvious as they wear Maxi dresses, when the Italians would wear a knee length dress.

What items do you think identify tourists/holidaymakers? To me, it is the knee length shorts in bright colours, bum bags or similar, socks worn with sandals...........

At the moment my wallpaper on my phone is a picture taken last year of my feet in a turquoise sea with a gold pedicure. Makes me feel holiday-ish.

Bunbaker · 04/04/2013 18:31

So don't women in Mediterranean countries wear any nail polish on their feet?

WillieWEggledEgger · 04/04/2013 18:36

There is a particular shade of pink British people wear in hot weather (both here an abroad)

PenelopePisstop · 04/04/2013 18:48

Bugger. I'm going on holiday on Tuesday. Just had a pedicure today and listed above it's pretty much my holiday wardrobe Blush and my favourite white linen trousers are listed more than once Sad

PenelopePisstop · 04/04/2013 18:49

And I've got bleached blonde hair (well highlighted Blush )

LadyMountbatten · 04/04/2013 18:49

OH MY GOD BUNBAKER so fattist ;)

Bunbaker · 04/04/2013 18:56

Yes, unashamedly so I'm afraid, but it was true.

RedPencils · 04/04/2013 18:56

SirChenjin - I was eyeing them up till i saw a couple of blue rinsers with 3 pairs each in their trollies. I gave myself a good talking to.

Tourists here all have enormous backpacks. And travel in groups of 20.

TheFallenMadonna · 04/04/2013 19:01

Cycling in France without lycra but with a helmet.

LadyMountbatten · 04/04/2013 19:03

MrsCampbellBlack · 04/04/2013 19:03

Penelope - fancy joining us for a drink? Wink

TomDudgeon · 04/04/2013 19:13

Good thing I can't afford a holiday because I'm wondering what on earth I could wear
I wear maxi skirts with wide strap vest tops and leather flip flops
Or black linen trousers with the same
Or 3/4s with something trainery if I need to be really practical
All wrong apparently
So what is right?

SirChenjin · 04/04/2013 19:20

Nothing is right Tom, but that's the great thing about being on holiday - wear what you want and then leave. You'll never see these people again, so wear those white linen trousers/back pack/maxi dress/beautiful shoes from Aldi with pride (well, maybe not pride, more a kind of "I don't care, I'm on me holidays devil-may-care type thing") Grin

LadyMountbatten · 04/04/2013 19:21

i have bought NEON PINK denim cut offs and they are bloody short.

Put that in your pipes and le fumer.

SirChenjin · 04/04/2013 19:23

Actually, you know what I said about wearing what you like?

That excludes neon pink denim cut-offs. LadyMountbatten, off to the corner of shame with you.

MrsCampbellBlack · 04/04/2013 19:23

Neon cut-offs - if only my holiday wasn't going to be in pembrokeshire

TomDudgeon · 04/04/2013 19:32

SirChenjin
That would be wonderful if I was the type to buy a holiday wardrobe but I'm not Blush that's what I wear in the summer in my home town too

And actually fuck it. I look good. What's wrong with maxis? I'm 5ft 11 ffs
I'll just make sure I have my catsbummouth deflecter with me

TomDudgeon · 04/04/2013 19:32

Bloody hell if I could get away with wearing neon cut offs I would Grin

SirChenjin · 04/04/2013 19:35

No-one can get away with wearing neon cut offs!!

MisterUdagawa · 04/04/2013 19:36

AND ( its me i n/c fo the neighbours thread) I bought a lime kind of dressy throw over thing for swimwear. its NEON lime.
