Oh whoops Shop misread. From your wardrobe... hang on Grin

Tell me what you think of these. I really like them but haven't found them in store to try on and not sure whether nearly 40 is too old? I'm also wondering whether I could destruct a pair of jeans that I own already. Anyone done this successfully?

shop had a look through your boards and you have lovely basic tees and sweaters that will look great with those cream jeans.i would love to see how you style them.

Gosh Shop so much lovely stuff. You can do nearly al your tops. The A&W, the Reiss, definitely the Reiss muse and mits chunky knit, A&W angold shirt, majestic sailor for monochrome, RL Breton for preppy, Beachwood, Hollingshead. And saddle bag. All works out very well!

QueenC I like those, not too old. I haven't but I remember something to do with cheese graters way back when!

Another suggestion Shop: cream jeans, cream/black Aubin&Wills stripy sweater, Zara leopard scarf (a bit of pattern mixing).

AmberNectarine · 06/03/2013 09:52

Shop, I'd colour block with your Reiss chunky knit and cream Zatchel, and jalouse on your feet.

For summer I'd try the A&W grey s/s sweat with your cream lace Toms.

Grumpy great news on the linen shirt and J Brands. I'd love to get the linen shirt but might wait a bit after hassle of shopping recently.

QC I'll definitely distress an old pair (=perfect fit), DIY ideas here. And inspiration for great looks here.

shop for casual summer weekend I'd do grey Hobbs t shirt, converse or Toms and mini Gracie. Agree though that your wardrobe gives you loads of options. Will have another look for evening.

Wendy has done a good DIY distressed jeans video...

Report

Ah gotta love Wendy.

Foxy yes that code was fabulous!

That is really bad of DHL grr for you. Nothing worse than hanging around all day for non-delivery!

Shame about SP, Marsha hope you get your money back...I also seem to think using Visa gives you some protection.

I always worry when small web traders have big discounts (though not enough to buy full price!) as I wonder how they can manage the loss? Was thinking that about Atterley Road, who have great stock also vastly reduced. Received a lookbook from them last week, so assume they are doing okay.

Shop had a quick look at your boards, agree that so many things could go with those jeans. Guess that is the great thing of sticking to your colours, it all goes well together. A few white jean ideas here - realise this is cheating but will have a proper play later. I do like the idea of wearing them in winter though.

I was also going to say, shop, that as I am in the market for a jersey blazer I would consider buying either of the two you have coming from SP if you are not keen on one and unable to get the discount.

Frugal I like your outfits, and outlook! I need to be frugal too (DH peering over shoulder as I write!).

MrsRadicchio · 06/03/2013 12:51

..unable to get the discount should read unable to get the refund. Should really preview

I love you all. Have been out with DS for his 2yr check today but will read in more detail your suggestions when he naps. Really nice to have someone else's eyes looking in your wardrobe, you've all come up with things that I wouldn't - THANK YOU. I'm feeling a bit low today - gets hard to keep the brave face on and am actually terrified about how things will be when DH is out of work! Solicitor came yesterday and seems to think we have a case though so fingers crossed.
From memory I used to shred my jeans with coarse sandpaper..... and splashes of bleach Grin

i'd love a jersey blazer too shop but i don't think we are the same size. I wonder what happens to the rest of the SP stock now - do the creditors take it? do they try to keep selling in order to recoup some losses? i don't know how these things work at all.

marsha i'm ashamed to say I was SO annoyed when the DHL status changed last night that I bashed out a quick email to the outnet. I'd said no to two different outings that DS would have loved and made DD rush home after school so she didn't get to bop along with her friends as usual. I also had work today and would not usually have been at home. they wrote back this morning with an apology and have refunded the delivery charge, which is excellent CS, although I feel a bit bad that I reacted so madly! yoga clearly not working Grin

Report
QueenCadbury · 06/03/2013 13:19

foxy don't feel bad at all. I would have reacted exactly the same! I'd love to try the jeans on in gap but they don't have them in cribbs (at least they didn't on Monday). As much as I would love to buy them I figured I may not get much wear out of them as I'd wear them rolled up with sandals and we could end up with another wet summer ( let's hope not) so I'm going to give destructing some old ones a go. Thanks for the links frugal and amber.

I'm on a self imposed shopping ban now until April as I've booked to have my colours done and am sure that I will want to go shopping after that! Can't wait to see what I really am and whether my self diagnosis is right or wrong.

shop fingers crossed for you. We can make lots more cool outfits for you to cheer you up!

I'd wear the cream jeans with the pale pinks or grey tops you have, Shop. Also agree the faux fur gilet would look good with it.

QueenCadbury, what season do you think you are?

Drywhite, I have never returned anything to Shopbop but maybe contact their CS, they are helpful.

Glad the loafers and trousers worked out, Liberty. I like the Iris&Ink range but haven't bought it as it does seem too pricy for the Outnet.

Scripsi, I haven't heard of Christopher Ward but I don't know much about watches. I prefer the stainless steel watch though the leather one does look like the Cape Cod.

Yeah, I think I'll have to forget the Prada bag unless it turns up in Bicester! I seem to use a Longchamp Le Pliage bag most of the time at the moment anyway as I can happily throw them on the floor at cafés/playgroups etc. DD2 is 20 months so still have to carry around drinks, etc for her.

Hope you are having a lovely lunch, Anni.

Lol Foxy good work. Quite restrained really, could have involved phone call and cross words, they can't tell how loudly you're doing the keys unless you use caps and shout online Grin.

Ah Shop fingers crossed. We're all sending good vibes.

QueenC yes interesting to see what they say.

Thanks MrsR Atterley Rd are quite new aren't they. I assume they are ok.

For SP I imagine all stock will go back as they can't legally do any sales/ transactions apparently.

QueenCad what have you diagnosed yourself as? I think I am deep winter. I am keen to get it done, but currently have 12 week breastfed, non-bottle taking DS so will have to wait until he is older.

Outfit ideas for shop...

-with any of your grey sweatshirts, plus mint velvet scarf to blend with, or either leopard scarf for some colour.
-with your furry gilet over a darker top (donna ida? heat tech?) and jalouse boots or your snow boots (depending on how bad weather gets)
-with either reiss knit and jalouse + mint velvet scarf
-navaho print card with dubarry boots
-A&W blouse with the black snake print boots
-any of your grey t-shirts with toms or red espadrills
-SP charcoal blazer with dark top underneath and black snake print boots, channelling this look

I think Atterley Road have a longer perspective or bigger backers, but their site is just so dull. Makes shopping feel like an unpleasant task. Disclaimer: I love and wear really many brands they sell. But their presention and color range is just so boring. SP was colorful, witty, careless and casual in a charming way.

Everyone on a shopping ban ie fiscally responsible mode, it does not need to be a boring time stylewise. This is an opportunity to learn to know and use what you already have! We can do wardrobe mashups / guest editorials a la Shop and tweak / creatively combine what we already have. And charity shops don't count, right? Wink

Shop you mentioned cooking from scratch. I love good food but also love to keep an eye on our food bill (can then blow the surplus on red caviar...). This super cheap Southern Italian pasta dish has been a family favorite this winter. Ideally paired with tile-red and dirt-cheap Calabrian Cirò wine but I'm also alcohol-free this month. I add half a peperoncino chile pod or some red pepper flakes: this is not my mothers mushy stinky cauliflower! I use all parts of a cauliflower, the green leaves too and it's done when it's still crunchy. Oh, and crouton is fancy-schmancese for leftover bread. The best Italian food comes from cucina povera: rich pickings for you and me Grin

Agree Atterley Road so boring it makes me want to cry. I really liked SP and the idea behind it. AR stock a decent enough range of brands but it is very unimaginative.

Try as I might I cannot find anyone I prefer as a retailer to Matches. Whoever does the styling is very good and they always have lovely window displays to lure me in. And I note they have reduced their delivery charge to a much more palatable £5. £8 was just too much.

MarshaBrady · 06/03/2013 15:19

Matches is ace due to styling on their site. And the shops are pretty.

Also NaP but very expensive, it's a big deal to get a full price item from there. And love the outnet for ease. Have ordered so much from there, and always really happy with what I keep. And glad about what I don't.

And good ol Liberty for a real shop. But NOT online!

Mrs R the Navaho was two years ago from GAP and is serving me very well. Thanks for all the wardrobe ideas - I have copied them all into a book and am going to play on the days when I'm stuck for ideas. You've made me look at things differently and I'm very grateful. I am very lucky with my wardrobe. Last year's wardrobe edit and and my DH's post baby gift to me of a shopping spree meant I have managed to get some lovely things that all work well together but it doesn't stop me having days where I don't know what to put with what. I've never had light coloured jeans before so I know I'd find them a challenge - your ideas are all brilliant and I like how different people suggest different things.
Happy to do the same for you guys but I'm sure you've got your outfits sorted!
Thanks for the recipe Frugal will give it a go and report back. I'm quite relishing the challenge of adding some new dishes to my repertoire (currently v limited!!)
