New thread for a new month! Everyone is doing so well, we are forming some great habits and, hopefully, feeling better for it.

some good links:

How To Be Groomed thread

Discount Make-up and Toiletries
Cheap Smells
Fragrance Direct
Xtras Online
Look Fantastic

Its also worth joining groups like wowcher and Groupon for discount manicures etc.

Baby steps are the way forward, and if you fall off the wagon and have a pj day (or week) its ok, just jump back on. We want to take more pride in our appearance, make an effort. As one poster said, "we think there's no point making an effort if we are just at home with our DP's and DC's, but they are the most important people in our lives - why not act like it?" I certainly feel better, my self-esteem is higher and I have more confidence.

All welcome.

Happy Fabulizing Dahhlinks

Hello all, sorry I haven't been around much, been keeping myself busy and therefore not on mumsnet. Have been reading though! I got into a nice habit of having a bath every other evening and putting cream on my body and I haven't done that this week (apart from Monday) and I have really felt the difference!

Today I went out to meet friends for a coffee and wore:

blue skinny jeans
duck egg blue top with little flowers on it from Cath Kidston
my adidas trainers - I would have worn my ankle boots but they are knackered.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/02/2013 19:07

Jacket no good for saving because I'd want to wear it either for going out to restaurants or pubs, or even to work - all of which are heated. It's an indoors jacket iykwim, rather than outerwear!

JemimaMuddledUp · 10/02/2013 19:21

Right, despite the fact that Valentine's Day is a load of over marketed hype I have decided that I don't care and have booked a table at a nice restaurant for DH and I on Thursday night. I think the last time we went out for a meal on Valentine's Day was probably about 14 years ago, we certainly haven't done it in the 11 years that we've been married.

So, I need to get seriously fabulous by Thursday night. I have been scrubbing and moisturising religiously for the past couple of weeks, so I will keep that up. I have an appointment to have my Shellac soaked off on Thursday morning anyway, am wondering whether to have anything else done while I am there? Also wondering whether to book in to the hairdresser for a blow dry so I have fabulous swishy hair. I have all day to prepare as it is half term so no work and the kids are spending the day (and night) at Grandma's.

Obvious outfit choice is the Monsoon maxi dress and shoes that I bought yesterday. I think I will need to wear a cardi though, especially given that snow is forecast this week! Not sure about jewellery, I don't have a lot that is gold or black so I may need to buy something. Can't decide between long earrings and no necklace or big necklace and stud earrings (which I have in both black and gold). Also can't decide on nail varnish colour, I have quite a subtle gold but I'm not sure if it would be a bit much. I'm quite happy to go clear on my fingers, but I will need something on my toes.

I do hope DH appreciates the effort!

TrampyPants · 10/02/2013 19:50

I would do orange nail polish, dangly earrings, no necklace.

And that sounds wonderful! We've never done v day before either.I am excited. I'm sure he will appreciate it.

Turnip, I love cashmere, I really should invest but I get too scared.

Georgia, at least you are returning it, I always forget Grin I love finding stuff I'd forgotten about.

Twinkle, new look have a sale on ankle boots at the moment. And don't worry about falling off, it's not like starting from scratch again.

Remus, oh that's a shame.

I'm on dressipi.com at the mo its pretty good, some nice ideas.

GeorginaWorsley · 10/02/2013 19:55

Am trying to be good Trampy

Have so much stuff that I never wear,I buy things that are similar then realise I have the same in my wardrobe.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/02/2013 19:58

All Dressipi ever shows me is black blazers and Alexander McQueen scarves!

JemimaMuddledUp · 10/02/2013 20:17

I don't think I have orange nail varnish. And I'm not sure that it would go with the shoes either, they are a kind of pale burnished gold. Although there is a sort of orangey shade in the design on the dress.

TrampyPants · 10/02/2013 20:25

Jemima, I have [[http://www.xtras-online.co.uk/cosmetics/essmmgag.html#fo_c=45&fo_k=49a33244de7f1c19ae648312e360a7b6&fo_s=gshuk this, it's just gorgeous. A proper molten gold look.

Remus, I had to adapt it alot. Most of the stuff I liked was out of stock though.
Boo

Georgia, I'm the same. Tomorrow I am sorting through my clothes and being brutal.

Honest.

Sorry here

twinklestar2 · 10/02/2013 23:26

Jemima - sounds lovely! I would go for big earrings with a maxi dress.

Trampy - new look shoes always hurt my feet. I do like Dorothy Perkins for cheapish shoes so will have a look on pay day.

Have had a bath and moisturised all over. Yay I'm back!

Starting low carb again tomorrow. I would have a more extensive wardrobe if I lost a few pounds.

muddlingalongquitenicely · 11/02/2013 09:39

Thanks for the links trampy will have a look when I have a break from work, I got myself a pair of leather trousers yesterday off eBay under £7 p&p included even the right leg length! My hubby is in to motor bikes so they are for a purpose honest...

JemimaMuddledUp · 11/02/2013 09:56

Morning!

Had a lovely lie in this morning as it is half term, then did 10k on my stationary bike. I am dressed entirely for practicality today as plans involve a walk along the river and then swimming with the kids (it is half term). So I am wearing jeans, a black vest top, a pink hoody, a black gilet and dark grey trainers. I am wearing small silver stud earrings though and have put on some BB cream, clear mascara and tinted lip balm.

I have dug out some dangly earrings that go with the black beading on the dress so I think I will wear them on Thursday night. I have also found my gold nail varnish.

TrampyPants · 11/02/2013 14:29

Twinkle, well done! It feels so nice, doesn't it?

Muddling, I believeyou Wink I love leather trousers but haven't the guts. I want some pleather leggings

Jemima, ds doesn't break up til next week. Boo. But yay for finding your finishing touches, that's ace.

Today's outfit. Khaki skinny cords, blue gola hi tops, Grey striped l/s tee under a denim shirt with sleeves rolled up, plaited belt and leopard print scarf. And a large brown ring. Full make up too. God, it's cold.

I'd like to join the thread, if thats okay, as grooming is all i currently have in my life

Since i had my DD 18 months, i got heavily into grooming, i was always into make-up before, but its become an obsession, to the point my mother has also been to bobbi brown for make-over's!

My everyday make-up is

Clinique superbalanced (best foundation i have ever tried) some kind of concealer under eyes then bobbi brown powder. Mac Give me sun bronzer and either a peach or soft pink blush with Jemma Kidd highlighter.

My eye make-up consists of a Mac Cork on the lid, over groundwork paint pot, Brown Down in the crease with a black eyeliner smudged near the lash line and false eyelashes.

I have got that down in about 10ish minutes.

My hair is long (20'') with half a head of extensions to thicken it up, its normally down and straight everyday. I struggle to curl it myself, it drops out quickly or ends up crispy, i know if i had a few layers it would look a lot more 'bouncy' but i have spent years getting it all one bloody length.

I usually always have my nails done, i do false ones myself, however the ''heartbroken'' state needed a 'treat me' day and i now have hideously beautiful long leopard print type nails.

Later i am going to test out this fake tan, as it is cheap and apparently gel soaks in right away and dries instantly. I have been using st tropez bronzing mousse which i couldn't recommend more, it dries instantly and gives such a great colour, however at £30.00 a pop I'm after something cheaper.

The one thing i need to ahem, sort is the bikini area, it needs to be dealt with, which i have some veet cream for, urgh, its the one thing i hate doing!

Nice to join ladies!

TrampyPants · 11/02/2013 21:40

Kate, we are all novices here, but welcome. Do you have make up free days?

I need to rhapsodise about a moisturiser I have found!! Got it from a local produce fair, its by a company called elegance natural skin care (they sell online too). Its avacodo daily moisturiser, and its lush!! Honestly, my face feels like velvet and is smooth as a babys bum!

Will have to catch up properly later but just while it is in my head, has anyone used the Style Book app for their iphone/ipad (not available on android yet)? You take pictures of your clothes and accessories and create outfits, packing lists, wish lists and links to shopping sites etc. Just wondering what it is like and if it is really useful or not. Read about it on another thread on here. Costs £2.49...

You can find more info at: www.stylebookapp.com/

KateSpade · 12/02/2013 09:45

Oh god yeah, I've had a weekend of slobbing round in my pj's.

& the fake tan I mentioned, solait from superdrug, bit of a let down!

muddlingalongquitenicely · 12/02/2013 09:57

Barry M new nail polishes look so good may have to treat myself new jelly colours and new texture polish but how to decide on the colours!!

Engelsemama · 12/02/2013 14:31

Hello fabulizers!

Back from weekend in UK, accessorizing today with a red nose streaming with snot Grin but in your honour have just blow dried my hair so not a total slob today.

Had a disappointing trip shopping with my sister on Friday ? only managed a pair of khaki slim fit trousers and a white T-shirt (both fat face) but went to Sainsbury?s with my mum on Saturday and got some great ?dressing up? clothes for work.

Nude heels (14 pounds! 14!)
Blue A line skirt
Yellow/salmon tops to wear with skirt (sounds hideous, but looked awesome!)
Superglam dress (glam for me Grin )

Wish I could find the skirt and dress to link but the TU website is rubbish and only shows selected items (and the Gok collection, which I didn?t fancy much)

DH?s jaw dropped when I showed them off to him back at the hotel!

Plan this week is to stock up my underwear/accessories draw which means?
Get fitted for new bra
Tights
Tan belt to wear with skirt/tops combo
Find some cool necklaces to add to my collection

Unfortunately am stuck at home ill with sickly DS as well, so shopping may have to wait. Looking forward to catching up on thread this week and reading what you?ve all been wearing Smile

JemimaMuddledUp · 12/02/2013 18:50

Kate you sound as though you could teach us a thing or two!

Engels I hope you and your DS are feeling better soon.

I spent 4hrs on a train today, so dressed for comfort. Straight leg jeans, black vest top, grey hoodie, converse. I did do my hair and make up though before leaving the house at 7am Shock and amazingly it stayed looking tidy all day. Good old hot air styler.

The purpose of today's trip was to take the DC to a museum, but as the museum was in a bigger town than the one we live near I did sneak a bit of shopping in on the way back to the station Grin

I bought:
Charcoal and white stripe long sleeved top (New Look)
Blue and white stripe long sleeved top (New Look)
Cream and grey lightweight butterfly print scarf (New Look)
Navy lightweight bird print scarf (Peacocks)
Black and white stripe tunic (H&M)

I like stripes and scarves Grin

I think I like the H&M tunic better than the one that I ordered online, so unless that is really gorgeous when it turns up it may well go back.

I also bought a couple of MUA nail varnishes.

I must sound like a total shopaholic, but bear in mind that up until about 6 weeks ago I didn't have any clothes in my size. I am enjoying stocking up my wardrobe again!

DewDr0p · 12/02/2013 21:04

Gibbs did you get your boots?

There are a few styles at office that might fit the bill?

twinklestar2 · 12/02/2013 21:55

All sound like successful shopping trips to me!

Today's outfit was black polo, black dress over top, grey cardie, opaques, long boots. Dressed for warmth but tried to be stylish instead of throwing a big cardie over trousers!

Need to get my contact lenses, have been wearing glasses way to much!

TrampyPants · 12/02/2013 22:48

Letme, sorry, I've not heard it,but that sounds awesome!

Kate, shame about the fake tan.

Muddling, oh, I've not checked Barry m out for ages, I love candy shades.

Engels, all that sounds ace, and Grin at your dhs jaw. But boo to colds. What's the dress like? And it's a great idea to sort out your lingerie. I will follow your lead, I think.

Jemima, everything sounds perfect, and you've worked so hard to lose the weight, celebrate it! How was the museum?

Dew, some of thoseboots are great.

Twinkle, outfit soundsgreat. I'm wearing specs too much too. I've lost my gorgeous ones so am stuck with the crap ones.

OP posts:
JemimaMuddledUp · 13/02/2013 13:28

Museum was good, kept the DC occupied for a day anyway! DS1 is into fossils and Darwin, DS2 is into Celts and Romans. DD just liked traveling by train Grin

Today's outfit: straight leg jeans, black vest top, purple reverse fair isle cardigan, navy swallow print scarf. No shoes as I haven't left the house yet - too cold!

As I am not going out today I'm not wearing any make up either, just moisturiser. Giving my skin a break.

Glad I'm having my Shellac taken off tomorrow as it is really starting to chip quite badly and it is peeling layers of my nails off as it chips Shock I'm starting to worry about what my nails will be like underneath.

It is also snowing and I am starting to wonder whether the maxi dress and strappy heels will be warm enough for my Valentine's dinner tomorrow night. I may need to plan a back up outfit just in case but I'm not sure what! Maybe if I wear a cardi and boots with the dress, but I'm not sure if boots will look too heavy (although the model on the website seems to be wearing black boots with it). I have boots similar to these, do you think they would look OK?

KateSpade · 13/02/2013 14:30

My hands are a horrendous shade, never normally happens, but I presume more practice is needed!
