For lots of nice stuff, links and so on.

Wow - that's some pressure at the school gates....

Sleepwhenidie · 06/02/2013 11:26

hmm, to be fair she was going to work and she's a fashion stylist Envy but I am used to it anyway. I used to drop DS1 to same nursery alongside Gwyneth Paltrow with Moses, which was when I gave up any attempt at looking good for the school runGrin!

libertychick · 06/02/2013 11:27

Today I'm working from home as I don't think my coughing spluttering presence was fully appreciated at the office yesterday! I am channeling an 'antiglam' vibe in wooly socks, thermal leggings, 2 vests. l/s Gap T and ancient Primark bright pink dressing gown.

Same as Mominatrix on the tucking issue, tuck for formal/work, untuck for casual. And also find belts deeply confusing if there are no beltloops.

Novice you sound v glam today, good luck with the flight/meetings etc

Welcome McNally

MarshaBrady · 06/02/2013 11:33

That look is impressive Sleep.

Ds' old school had great fashion, lots of Marant / prints /vintage. He's at a new one now and I miss it.

OP posts:
MarshaBrady · 06/02/2013 11:34

Am yet to get dressed too Liberty!

OP posts:
Sleepwhenidie · 06/02/2013 11:36

I will miss the nursery too Marsha. DD's school is more Paul&Joes parkas with leggings and Uggs and ds1's fleeces and Labradors Sad...huge generalisations but gives the picture!

MarshaBrady · 06/02/2013 11:47

We have a big mix, including gym gear. But the old one everyone had great style . I think it's because it attracted fashiony types. Was good fun.

MarshaBrady · 06/02/2013 11:49

I now get a style fix from going out and this thread obviously!

QueenCadbury · 06/02/2013 12:05

I dare you to post the fur jacket on the school run chic thread Wink

Sleepwhenidie · 06/02/2013 12:09

Hahahha, do you think I am crazy?

Amber should do it, they hate her already Grin...I am too scared.

Pseudonymity · 06/02/2013 12:19

My goodness QueenC, that jeans link is fab. Dreaded "long butt" indeed! I remember my mum having long butt. Also, younguns have long butt in those hideous shiny American Apparel high waisted nylon tricot skinnies.

I am going to try on denim with renewed vigour. My last foray into denim was indeed in GAP where I tried on every style and left hanging my head in shame.

I don't hold out much hope for jeans on me, with a 26 inch waist and getting on for 40 inches around the widest part of my butt I really risk looking like an idiot/a carrot/parsnip or any other tapered item one can think of. I had a pair of 7s that were great once, but I was 20 and yet to fill-out.

Any advice received gratefully, quite often it is the thighs that rule the jeans out for me. If I can pull them over my thighs likely they will not fit my waist. You've inspired me. x

AmberNectarine · 06/02/2013 12:35

I don't do fur - don't have many fashion principles but that is one of them. I had to wear real fur when I was performing in an opera once and it made me feel physically sick every time I put the costume on.

It always, always looks better on the animal.

Sleepwhenidie · 06/02/2013 12:50

I agree Amber, fur definitely always looks better on the animal, and I don't think I could actually wear it myself, but it was beautiful.

So ya won't be posting it on school run chic then HmmSmile

AmberNectarine · 06/02/2013 13:20

Nah, I'll post those Prada hoof shoes with rubber socks though? Wink

libertychick · 06/02/2013 13:23

Don't have a nursery run. I bring DD to playgroup occasionally or the library when working from home and it's all about the Ugg boot and the tunic round here.

Are you dressed yet Marsha? I have at last, monsoon velvet grey skinnies and APC navy and white stripe sweater. Slippers as I am in the house.

You were in an opera Amber? I love these little glimpses into other lives! You must have a great voice.

Pseud try 'Not your daughters jeans' (NYDJ). They are american sizing but they recommend you go down at least one size too so someone who is normally a UK 12, would be US 8 and in NYDJ should try a 4 and a 6. TKMaxx have had them in a lot lately. I found the fit fairly good (have about 12/13 inch difference between waist and widest part of hips) and they have plenty of stretch in the thigh and hip and a high waist.

AmberNectarine · 06/02/2013 13:41

Oh it was years ago when I was at uni. I'm classically trained to a high standard, but as to whether my voice is brilliant or not, well, that's very subjective.

Most singing I do now is the odd jaunt to a karaoke bar with DH!

Decameron · 06/02/2013 13:46

I'm a tucker.

Shop, I always try on before I buy from Shopbop as you will lose the customs fee and it's expensive to return. My neighbour is American and her family visit often so I can usually avoid customs and get them to courier it over!

Anni, I like that red bag a lot.

My Mother skinny jeans arrived, they are a perfect fit, classic skinny jeans and only a little more expensive than the Bodens. Also recommend these Zara jeans which were £20! Can't go wrong.

It's skinny jeans and big scarves galore around on the school run here. Mulberry is quite popular too.

Get well soon, Liberty.

libertychick · 06/02/2013 13:54

It's such a fantastic talent to have Amber.

MarshaBrady · 06/02/2013 13:58

Am contemplating it Liberty! Grin Ds is fast asleep wish I could join him, am looking after ds2.

I can't sing a note. Love the idea of classical training (well, for those who can).

Just had lunch out with an old male work colleague and my DS who was delightfully behaved which meant I could keep up with the industry chat without too much difficulty.
Now back and catching up. Never wear real fur either, I have two of my grandmother's fur coats hanging up. Very lovely but I couldn't.......

QueenBOObread · 06/02/2013 14:34

My workday "what are you wearings" are rather dull I'm afraid. Here in:

  • navy fine cashmere drapey top (AllMyLove)
  • Hobbs black peg legs (from 2010 but such a good shape on me)
  • Russell & Bromley patent heels (AGAIN)
  • Mulberry birdtooth scarf.

I was feeling more summery when I tried on my brogues last night. They are really lovely, so soft and instantly moulded around my feet. They worked well with my Marant flippy skirt and with a plain T-shirt I was all set for summer until I looked out of the window and saw pissing icy rain.

Lots of Grensons on the Outnet at the moment. Here!

Mominatrix · 06/02/2013 14:34

See, I don't have a problem with fur (except for the rare and exotics, of course). I wear leather, have crocodile and lizard small leather goods/clutches, eat all kinds of different meats. Also, I knew someone growing up whose family owned a mink farm, so I knew that it was not some inhumane operation (animals are certainly not skinned alive!), and that the carcass was used for many other purposes.

I know it is a touchy subject, so I usually just hang my head low when the subjects comes up.

Had a cancelled lunch today, but that is OK as I have been busy trying to Pinterest. It is really addictive, and like virtual shopping. Unfortunately, I have yet to be inspired by clothing this season - mostly other colours of clothes I currently own or accessories.

Wow, Amber - opera singer! Very impressed. I don't have any hidden talents, just blatant attempts at them.

QueenBOObread · 06/02/2013 14:36

Envy of Pseud's Joanie proportions!

Sleepwhenidie · 06/02/2013 15:43

I thought that about Joanie's waist/hip too - fabulous curves!

Well you are all an extremely bad influence-I have just been in Anna again, tried on

-Pistols -nice but n/a in black in my size at the moment so that was ok

  • goldsign virtual high rise skinnies- fab as promised-now where do I get them cheaper?!
  • these leather trousers which were gorgeous and v comfy. Anyone know if Selfridges sell MiH? I have birthday gift cards to soften the blow!
